ConnectWise licensing is the set of terms under which ConnectWise sells its software to managed service providers (MSPs) and in-house IT departments. The portfolio covers remote access (ScreenConnect), remote monitoring and management (ConnectWise RMM and ConnectWise Automate), professional services automation (ConnectWise PSA), configure-price-quote, robotic process automation, security (SIEM, managed EDR, vulnerability management, email security) and backup.[1][7] ConnectWise publishes list prices only for ScreenConnect. RMM and PSA are sold through a request-for-pricing or quote process.[7][3]
One contract governs almost everything. The Master Agreement covers “any ConnectWise Offerings made available to You”, including trials. It combines Master Terms (sections 1 to 16) with a SaaS Addendum, a Software Addendum for on-premises software and a Services Addendum for professional services and education.[1] The current version is dated 2026-07-01. An Australian version is dated 2026-07-27, and earlier versions are archived on the Legal page.[2] Catalog proof: Current Master Agreement version is dated 2026-07-01. The contracting party is ConnectWise, LLC of Tampa, Florida, or the ConnectWise Affiliate named on the Schedule. Governing law follows that entity: Florida, Ontario, England, Australia or the Netherlands.[1]
Two older agreements still apply to ScreenConnect. Self-hosted ScreenConnect has its own End User License Agreement, which defines four licence types.[13] ScreenConnect Cloud has a SaaS EULA revised 2021-04-26. These are covered in ScreenConnect licensing.
Editions
ConnectWise’s product lines use different licence units. The table summarises them; the deeper articles give the detail.
| Product line | Unit ConnectWise documents | Deeper article |
|---|---|---|
| ScreenConnect Remote Support (One, Standard, Premium, Enterprise) | Concurrent technician; sessions per technician capped by plan | ScreenConnect licensing |
| ScreenConnect Remote Access | Installed access agent, minimum 25 | ScreenConnect licensing |
| ScreenConnect On-Premise | Technician licence per hosting machine; perpetual with 365 days of updates | ScreenConnect licensing |
| ConnectWise RMM and Automate | Agent per operating system instance | RMM, Automate and PSA licensing |
| ConnectWise PSA (Basic, Standard, Premium) | Member (Named User) licence; optional subcontractor and Streamline IT licences | RMM, Automate and PSA licensing |
| ScreenConnect Privileged Access | Endpoint with a Privileged Access policy | ScreenConnect licensing |
| ConnectWise Pro bundle | End-user or endpoint pricing model | RMM, Automate and PSA licensing |
ScreenConnect’s public price list shows One at USD 30 per month billed annually (single licence). Standard is USD 47 per concurrent technician per month billed annually, or USD 62 billed monthly. Premium is USD 57 billed annually or USD 72 billed monthly. Enterprise is priced by quote.[3] Catalog rows: ScreenConnect One, Standard, Premium, Enterprise, Remote Access, On-Premise, and PSA Basic, Standard and Premium.
Metrics
The Master Agreement defines the two general metrics. Product documentation defines the product-specific ones.
- Agent. One installation of agent software on one operating system instance. Each operating system instance on a partitioned or virtualised server needs its own Agent.[1]
- Named User. “a specific individual or device designated by Client to use or be managed by the ConnectWise Offering”. Credentials may not be shared but may be reassigned.[1]
- Billing Metric and the Authorized Use Limitation. A SaaS offering’s billing unit is the one defined in its SaaS Listing. The Authorized Use Limitation is the quantity bought in that unit.[1]
- ScreenConnect Concurrent Technician License and ScreenConnect access agent. ScreenConnect Cloud’s two units. A concurrent licence is used each time a technician connects. Agent-based licences cap the number of installed access agents.[5]
- On-Premise Perpetual technician license, Concurrent Session License, Flexible Concurrent Session License and Unlimited Session License. These are the self-hosted ScreenConnect licence types.[6][13]
- PSA member license. PSA documentation refers to “Named User licenses for PSA”.[8]
- Privileged Access endpoint. Billed per endpoint that has a Privileged Access policy applied.[12]
Counting / floors
The offerings count usage themselves. The Master Agreement says they are “programmed to track the number of deployed Agents, users and other usage and user related data”. The customer must not hinder or distort that tracking.[1] If usage exceeds the Authorized Use Limitation, the customer must sign a Schedule for more or pay the excess-usage invoice. For SaaS, overage “will be treated as an order for excess use” and may stay in the limit for the rest of the term.[1] Catalog proof: Offerings track Agents, users and usage; customer may not hinder tracking; Exceeding an Authorized Use Limitation requires a new Schedule or payment; SaaS overage is treated as an order and billed.
The main floor is the purchased quantity itself. “Quantities licensed cannot be decreased during the relevant subscription term.” Fees are due “even if you are not fully using all Named Users, Agents or other licenses”.[1] Where a Schedule sets a monthly minimum, the customer pays the greater of the minimum and its measured usage. Any agent that appears in the ConnectWise Portal counts as usage.[1] ScreenConnect Remote Access has a 25-agent minimum.[4] Catalog proof: Licensed quantities cannot be decreased during a subscription term; Agents visible in the ConnectWise Portal are billable; ScreenConnect Remote Access has a 25-agent minimum.
Commentary: the effective licence position for most ConnectWise lines comes from the vendor’s own counters (Agents in the portal, members in PSA, technicians in ScreenConnect). It is not a periodic declaration. Reconciling those counters with the Schedule each month is the practical control.
Virtualization & partitioning
ConnectWise has no core or processor metric. Virtualisation matters only for Agent counting. A server that hosts several operating system instances through partitioning or virtualisation needs one Agent for each instance.[1] Catalog proof: One Agent per operating system instance, including virtual partitions. ScreenConnect on-premises licences are tied to one installation, not to a server. A licence may be used with only one production installation at a time.[6] Catalog proof: ScreenConnect on-premises licences are tied to one installation.
Cloud / BYOL
Most ConnectWise offerings are SaaS hosted by ConnectWise, so bring-your-own-licence does not arise. The SaaS Addendum grants a non-transferable, non-exclusive right to use SaaS during the Subscription Term, up to the Authorized Use Limitation.[1] On-premises software (Automate, ScreenConnect On-Premise) runs on the customer’s own servers or chosen hosting. An Automate licence for Managed Services is limited to the designated Operations Center.[1] Catalog proof: Automate for Managed Services is licensed for the designated Operations Center.
Programs
- Assurance. Support, fixes and new Releases for on-premises software (SaaS Assurance for SaaS). Customers on Assurance must run the most current release.[1] ScreenConnect on-premises maintenance runs for 365 days per licence.[6]
- Monthly Minimum. The customer pays the greater of the scheduled minimum and actual usage.[1]
- Free Trial and Free Offerings and the SaaS Evaluation Period. Trials last 30 days unless stated otherwise and are for non-production use. SaaS evaluations last 14 days. Agents left installed afterwards turn into a paid subscription with a USD 250 monthly minimum.[1]
- ConnectWise Pro. A bundle launched in 2025 that combines PSA, RMM, CPQ, RPA and ScreenConnect in one contract, with a choice of end-user or endpoint pricing.[9]
- ConnectWise Partner Program. This is a marketing programme, not a licensing tier. It is “a voluntary, invitation-only marketing and growth initiative”.[10] All partners get select resources; eligible partners can join the Growth, Ascend and Pinnacle tracks.[11] Endpoint and usage counts for the programme come “exclusively” from ConnectWise’s systems of record. Marketing Development Funds can be clawed back for licence cancellations or downgrades, and MDF records may be audited for three years. NFR licences are for internal demonstration only.[10] Catalog proof: Partner Program endpoint and usage counts come from ConnectWise systems of record; MDF can be clawed back for licence cancellations and downgrades; NFR licences may not be used in live customer environments.
Contract terms (renewal, price changes, audit, assignment) are covered in ConnectWise Master Agreement.
MSPs and internal IT
The same Master Agreement serves both types of customer, with different licence grants. An internal-use licensee may let its Authorized Users use SaaS. Authorized Users are its own staff and contractors, “excluding any outsourcer, facilities management providers, managed service provider, or application service provider”.[1] An MSP licensee may sublicense the agent to its End Users, “solely to provide Managed Services to End Users”. It must not resell, time-share or otherwise make the offering available to third parties.[1] The MSP must pass on terms at least as protective of ConnectWise to its End Users, and it is responsible for their breaches.[1] Catalog proof: Authorized Users exclude outsourcers and MSPs; MSP licensees may sublicense the agent to End Users only to deliver Managed Services.
Audits and compliance
ConnectWise may audit “remotely or onsite” on 30 days’ notice. The audit may be run by a mutually agreed independent third party. Unless there is reasonable suspicion of a deviation, audits happen no more than once per calendar year.[1] The clause has no cost-shifting threshold. Because usage is metered in the product, most differences surface as excess-usage invoices. An invoice is deemed accepted unless the customer objects in writing within ten days.[1] The ScreenConnect EULA has its own audit clause, which allows electronic audits.[13] Catalog proof: ConnectWise may audit on 30 days’ notice, normally once per calendar year; Invoices are deemed accepted unless disputed within 10 days; ScreenConnect on-premises use may be audited electronically. For the general discipline see software license audit and true-up.
Out of scope
- Signed Schedules, quotes and negotiated MSP agreements, which are not public.
- RMM, Automate and PSA prices, which ConnectWise gives only on request.[7]
- Cloud Backup, SaaS Security, x360Recover and other Cloud Services, which also fall under separate ConnectWise Cloud Backup and SaaS Security Partner Terms, and SentinelOne-based offerings, which are supplemented by the SentinelOne MSSP Agreement.[1]
- ConnectWise AI Agents, SIEM and SOC services, Service Leadership Index and other legacy or acquired-product terms listed on the Legal page.[2]
- Automate’s internal licence mechanics beyond the Agent metric. The only public Automate licensing statement retrieved is in a technical evaluation guide copyrighted 2018.[14]
