ConnectWise RMM, ConnectWise Automate and ConnectWise PSA are ConnectWise’s core products for managed service providers. ConnectWise RMM is a hosted remote monitoring and management service. Automate is an RMM platform aimed at MSPs that want “granular control and deep automation”, which “primarily supports Windows endpoints”.[8] PSA (formerly ConnectWise Manage) is the professional services automation, ticketing and billing system. All three are sold on quotes rather than from a public price list.[6] In 2025 ConnectWise moved PSA and RMM onto its Asio platform and introduced the ConnectWise Pro bundle.[5]
All three products fall under the ConnectWise Master Agreement. RMM and hosted PSA are covered by its SaaS Addendum, and on-premises Automate by its Software Addendum. Unless a Schedule says otherwise, fees “are based on Named Users or Agents”.[1]

Automate
ConnectWise’s Automate evaluation guide states that “Automate is licensed as an agent-based technology” in two forms. Perpetual licences are offered “at a higher monthly cost” but give ownership at the end of the agreement. Subscriptions cost less per month, but ownership stays with ConnectWise. Core functionality and ConnectWise Solutions are included in the Automate licence; Invent Solutions are handled separately.[2] The guide carries a 2018 copyright. The current Software Addendum confirms both constructs. A Subscription is a licence “for a specific period of time” that includes Assurance by default. A Perpetual License is a licence “for an indefinite period subject to compliance with the Agreement”.[1] Catalog proof: Automate is sold as perpetual or subscription agent licences.
PSA packages
ConnectWise PSA comes in Basic, Standard and Premium packages. Basic allows up to three projects; Standard and Premium allow unlimited projects. Basic does not offer subcontractor or Streamline IT licences; Standard and Premium offer both as options. Premium adds cloud infrastructure billing, monitoring and management. Standard support is included from Standard upward, and Premium support (24/7/365) is a purchasable option for every package.[3] Prices are “customized based on your needs” and quoted individually.[3]
Metrics
Agent. Both RMM products count Agents: “a single installation of the agent software on a specific operating system instance which can be identified as a unique host identification on a Server”. A device without an operating system counts as one Agent.[1] The SaaS Addendum also names “SaaS Agents”, ConnectWise’s hosted platform for managing desktops, servers, mobile devices and network devices at End User sites.[1]
PSA member license. PSA is licensed per member, the person who logs in. The Members screen sets up “login names and passwords for each person using ConnectWise PSA”. ConnectWise’s documentation refers to the “management and compliance of Named User licenses for PSA”.[4] This is the Master Agreement’s Named User metric. Credentials “may not be shared among multiple individuals” but may be reassigned.[1] The Members screen has four licence classes: Regular members; Streamline IT members, which are client licence-class members; Subcontractors; and API Members.[4]
Privileged Access endpoint. In ConnectWise RMM, the ScreenConnect Privileged Access add-on is billed per endpoint that has a Privileged Access policy applied.[7]
Counting / floors
RMM and Automate
Every Agent the product reports counts. The offerings track “the number of deployed Agents”, and the customer may not hinder the tracking.[1] Under a monthly minimum, ConnectWise charges when an offering “is deployed on a Supported Device”. Some offerings are prorated by the days deployed in the month and stop being charged when uninstalled. The customer pays for “any agent appearing in Client’s ConnectWise Portal” unless it told ConnectWise promptly that the agent could not be uninstalled. The minimum fee is payable even if fewer agents are deployed.[1] Catalog proof: Agents visible in the ConnectWise Portal are billable.
Agents above the Authorized Use Limitation are treated as an order for excess use and billed. The overage may stay in the limit for the rest of the Subscription Term, and quantities cannot be reduced mid-term.[1] Commentary: decommissioned machines whose agents stay visible in the portal keep counting. Removing stale agents before the billing measurement matters more than the formal true-up. Catalog proof: SaaS overage is treated as an order and billed; Licensed quantities cannot be decreased during a subscription term.
Evaluation
RMM-type SaaS offerings can be evaluated for fourteen days from receipt of the portal login details, on the customer’s own network and up to five End User sites. The Help Desk evaluation lasts thirty days, covers one site and is capped at 25 seats. If the customer does not remove all SaaS Agents before the evaluation ends, it “shall automatically be deemed to have purchased a full Software subscription”. That subscription is at full prices, with a cumulative minimum of USD 250 per month, and installed agents simply continue.[1] Catalog proof: SaaS Agents left after evaluation become a paid subscription (USD 250 monthly minimum); SaaS evaluation limited to internal network and five End User sites.
PSA
A PSA licence is held by a member until the member is deactivated. “Deactivating a member frees up a license for use by another member.” Disabling a member’s online access with the Disable Online check box “does not free up their license”. Before deactivation, the member’s open time sheets must be closed and all time approved.[4] Read Only mode lets a member log in with their permissions but without the ability to add, edit or delete. It can be used “to display dashboards on monitors without using a member license”.[4] The subcontractor licence “should be selected only if you have a short duration employee”, and it is priced differently from a regular licence.[4] Catalog proof: PSA: deactivating a member frees a licence; disabling does not; PSA Read Only mode does not use a member licence.
Virtualization & partitioning
“A Server may have multiple operating system instances installed on it (through partitioning or virtualization). Each instance of the operating system on a partitioned/virtualized Server must license an Agent.”[1] A hypervisor host running twenty guest operating systems with agents therefore needs twenty Agents, plus one more if the host operating system also has an agent. No host-level or per-cluster alternative is published. Catalog proof: One Agent per operating system instance, including virtual partitions.
Cloud / BYOL
ConnectWise RMM and PSA powered by Asio run as ConnectWise-hosted SaaS, and the Asio platform is promoted as scaling “to 100k+ endpoints”.[9] Automate licensed for Managed Services is granted “to provide Managed Services to End Users in the designated OC”. An Operations Center is “the datacenter location where Client installs the ConnectWise Software to run the Managed Services”.[1] Commentary: moving a self-hosted Automate server to a different data centre or cloud should be checked against the OC designated in the Schedule. Catalog proof: Automate for Managed Services is licensed for the designated Operations Center.
Programs
- ConnectWise Pro. Launched in 2025 and available from July 2025, Pro bundles ConnectWise PSA, ConnectWise RMM, CPQ, RPA, ScreenConnect and security and backup dashboards “into a single contract”. Partners can “either adopt an end-user pricing model or an endpoint pricing model”. Cybersecurity, help desk and NOC services are optional add-ons.[5]
- PSA powered by Asio. Existing PSA partners were offered an upgrade path to the Asio-native PSA, rolled out to early cohorts from July 2025.[5]
- Assurance. Automate subscriptions include Assurance unless the Schedule says otherwise. Customers on Assurance must run the most current release.[1] Catalog proof: Assurance requires the current release.
- Monthly Minimum and SaaS Evaluation Period. See Counting / floors above.
- Bundled ScreenConnect. A ScreenConnect licence included with Automate or RMM may only support devices with an active RMM agent, and only while RMM maintenance is current.[10] See ScreenConnect licensing.
MSP use
The SaaS Addendum gives MSPs a specific grant. An MSP may use the service and “sublicense to End Users the non-exclusive, non-assignable right to install and use the Software Agent on Supported Devices”, in both cases “solely to provide Managed Services to End Users”.[1] An End User is “an unaffiliated third party customer of Client”, and the MSP answers for End Users’ breaches. A PSA Streamline IT licence lets an MSP’s clients use part of its PSA instance for their internal IT department.[1][3] Catalog proof: MSP licensees may sublicense the agent to End Users only to deliver Managed Services.
