Informatica licensing

This article is an overview of how Informatica (Informatica from Salesforce) licenses its cloud services and on-premises software. IPU consumption and CPU-core rules are covered in Informatica IPU licensing; master data management records in Informatica MDM SaaS licensing.

Informatica licensing covers how Informatica, a data management vendor owned by Salesforce since 2025-11-18, licenses its cloud services and on-premises software.[5] Two documents govern almost everything. The Informatica License and Services Agreement (ILSA, version 07.24) is the master agreement, and the Cloud and Product Description Schedule (CPDS) describes each product’s packaging, metric and product notes. The CPDS in force from 2026-09-11 is version 39.2, which “applies to Informatica Pricebook, Version 39.2” and now carries the heading “Informatica from Salesforce”.[1][2]

A license is governed by the CPDS “IN EFFECT AT THE TIME OF THE APPLICABLE ORDER”, and orders with legacy SKUs may follow an earlier version.[2] A software asset manager therefore needs the CPDS version referenced on each Order, not only the current one. Informatica publishes the CPDS but not the Pricebook, so the catalog records product names and metrics without prices.

Product families

The CPDS 39.2 table of contents groups products as follows:[2]

PowerCenter and PowerExchange, the long-standing on-premises products, have no separate product description in CPDS 39.2. The schedule still defines the PowerCenter Repository and covers PowerExchange support, and IDMC includes PowerCenter interoperability for importing and running PowerCenter mappings.[2] Existing PowerCenter licenses are counted by CPU-core; the PowerCenter documentation says compliance is based on physical cores, not threads (PowerCenter: compliance on physical cores, not threads).[6]

How each family is licensed

Intelligent Data Management Cloud

IDMC is subscribed per IPU. IPUs apply only to eligible Cloud Services in the IDMC matrix, and may be used across all Orgs and Sub-orgs as long as total consumption stays within the subscribed quantity (IDMC subscribed per IPU; eligible services only; aggregated across Orgs).[2] Each service converts its own scalar into IPUs at a published rate. For example, Data Integration uses 0.16 IPU per Compute Unit hour for the first 2,000 hours and 0.025 above (Data Integration: 0.16 IPU per Compute Unit hour (first 2,000), 0.025 above), and Address Verification batch uses 1.10 IPU per thousand rows for the first 30,000 rows, falling in tiers to 0.03 above 3 million.[2] Informatica’s pricing page presents this as flexible, consumption-based pricing.[3] The IPU programs are:

Details, including Compute Unit calculation and billing periods, are in Informatica IPU licensing.

Master data management

MDM SaaS is subscribed by the number of records in Production, counted as Unconsolidated Records (one per source record) or Consolidated Records (one per merged master record), per Data Domain. Each subscription includes one Production Org, 100 MDM SaaS Business Named Users per Org, and a Full and a Partial Sandbox. It also caps daily updates at 0.5% of subscribed records (MDM SaaS daily record updates capped at 0.5 percent of subscribed Production records) and sizes storage per record (MDM SaaS storage sized at 14 KB per Unconsolidated Record; excess storage must be subscribed).[2] See Informatica MDM SaaS licensing.

On-premises Software

Software is licensed or subscribed within an Environment, the domain behind one master gateway Node, and within it by CPU-cores, Instances or other metrics. Moving licensed cores between servers inside an Environment has no license impact, but a new master gateway Node creates a new Environment (Environment licensing: reallocating cores inside an Environment is free; a new master gateway node creates a new Environment). “Unlimited Software licenses/subscriptions are not permitted to be re-allocated across multiple Environments without the payment of additional fees” (Unlimited Software licenses cannot be re-allocated across Environments without fees).[2] Each execution core or virtual CPU-core counts as a CPU-core (CPU-core counting: each core and each vCPU counts as one CPU-core). All Production and Non-production Nodes must be licensed, except Nodes that only support cluster operations (Cluster-management Nodes that do not process data are not counted). Products licensed per Data Store count each Non-production Data Store separately (Each Non-production Data Store is licensed separately).[2]

Connectors

Tier B, C and D Connectors are subscribed per End Point, per Data Type or per Tier, chosen at purchase, each per consecutive month (Connectors Tier B-D subscribed per End Point, per Data Type or per Tier). Using generic ODBC or JDBC connectivity is possible, but “Support Services are not available if generic ODBC or JDBC connectivity is used when a native Informatica Connector is available” (Generic ODBC or JDBC connectivity is unsupported where a native Connector exists).[2] The catalog lists the Tier B Connector as a SKU row.

Purchasing and agreements

The ILSA applies when an Order or statement of work incorporates it, or when a customer accepts it online. Each Order or SOW “is a separate contractual commitment”, and Affiliates of either party may enter into their own Orders.[1] The ILSA is published in English and six other languages.[4] Key commercial terms:

Support and maintenance

Support Services, meaning access to the help desk and to updates, upgrades, patches and bug fixes, are provided for a Support Fee under the Order and the Informatica Global Customer Support Guide.[1] The CPDS describes two higher tiers, both offered on a subscription basis. Premium Success gives 24x7 access for Priority 1 issues, online escalation and live chat. Signature Select adds 24x7 support for all incidents, a fifteen-minute response for business-critical prioritization, prioritized emergency bug fixes and an emergency response team.[2] During a version update, the old and new versions may run side by side for up to 60 days (Old and new Software versions may run side by side for 60 days).[2]

Audit and compliance

Section 3.5 of the ILSA gives Informatica a review right. “Informatica may, on at least ten (10) business days’ prior written notice and not more than once every twelve (12) months, during Customer’s normal business hours, review and validate Customer’s compliance with the Agreement and deployment of the Products.” The customer must supply accurate and complete information within 10 business days, in a form reasonably satisfactory to Informatica (Informatica may review compliance once every 12 months on 10 business days notice). It must also “immediately remit to Informatica any shortfall in payment disclosed by the review including any late charges” (Shortfalls found in a review are payable immediately with late charges).[1]

Informatica also collects usage data. Software “will automatically transmit” information about its environment, IP address and usage statistics, which the customer may disable. Collection by Cloud Services “is necessary to provide the Cloud Services and cannot be disabled”.[1] On termination the customer must stop using the Products and, within five days, de-install the Software and return it or certify its destruction (De-install and return or destroy Software within five days of termination).[1]

Cloud and virtualization

For on-premises Software, a hard Partition must be licensed for all CPU-cores in it, and a soft (virtualized) Partition may never exceed the licensed CPU-cores. If virtualization tools are not visible to the Informatica Administration Console and no historical record is kept, the customer must license one CPU-core per deployed vCPU (Hard and soft Partitions; no record means one CPU-core per vCPU).[2] Software may be deployed on qualified third-party cloud infrastructure, where each vCPU falls under the soft Partitioning policy. Each licensed CPU-core equals two vCPUs on hyper-threaded instance types, and one vCPU on Azure physical-core types and AWS T2 and m3.medium (Third-party cloud: 1 licensed CPU-core = 2 vCPUs (hyper-threaded); Azure physical-core and AWS T2/m3.medium 1:1).[2] Each Production license includes a Recovery License for one stand-by Instance, which may never run concurrently with Production (Recovery License: one cold or stand-by recovery Instance per Production license).[2]

For IDMC, Secure Agents run on customer or cloud hosts, and Compute Units are calculated from their cores, with each Hyper-Thread counted as a Logical CPU-core and a minimum of four (Compute Units: minimum of 4 CPU-cores; each Hyper-Thread is a Logical CPU-core).[2]

Recent licensing changes
