Definition
CPDS 39.2: "CPU (Central Processing Unit) or CPU-core/ Single-Core Processor means a single complete computation engine (execution core) that is fabricated on a single chip (or processor) that plugs into a single socket." "For purposes of licensing or subscription, each execution core on a chip or a Virtual CPU-core as represented in Virtualization software is counted as a CPU-core."
Counting rules
A quad-core chip counts as four CPU-cores. A vCPU counts as one CPU-core. On supported third-party cloud platforms where one vCPU equals one Hyper-Thread, each licensed CPU-core equates to two vCPUs; on Microsoft Azure instances licensed by physical core, and AWS T2 and m3.medium, one CPU-core equals one vCPU. Cores may be allocated across shared servers in an Environment provided licensed cores equal the total cores of the shared servers unless restricted to a verifiable Partition. PowerCenter documentation: compliance is based on physical cores, not threads.
Floors / minimums
Hard Partition: license at least the total CPU-cores in the partition. Without a historical record of partitioning tools not visible to the Administration Console, license one CPU-core per deployed vCPU. Products may not be installed on VPU or GPU technologies.
