Kaseya sells two remote monitoring and management (RMM) platforms, Datto RMM and Kaseya VSA. Kaseya describes both as delivered “from a unified, cloud-based platform”.[14] VSA is in its tenth major version (VSA 10), and VSA 9 is still in use by existing customers.[8] Either can be bought standalone. Datto RMM or VSA 10 can also be the RMM Component of a Kaseya 365 Endpoint licence. VSA 9 is available as that option “only for current VSA 9 users and cannot be purchased as a new license”.[8] Catalog proof: VSA 9 cannot be purchased as a new licence.
Both platforms count managed devices, so they belong to the device family described in concurrent and device licensing. They differ in how a device is counted and billed. Datto RMM counts approved devices at month end against a committed minimum. VSA counts agent licences against a purchased maximum.
Editions
Datto RMM is governed by the PSA, Datto RMM and Kaseya Quote Manager Terms of Use. These also cover Autotask PSA, BMS, Vorex and Kaseya Quote Manager.[1] Datto RMM licence cards on the Licenses page show three paid modules: Datto RMM itself, Advanced Software Management, and Ransomware Detection. A Kaseya 365 Endpoint count is shown on the Datto RMM and Advanced Software Management cards.[2] Advanced Software Management is “available to all customers as a paid-for add-on”.[2]
The Master Agreement lists no separate Product Terms for VSA. The Kaseya 365 Terms state for VSA 10 “No Component Product Terms at this time, please see Product Specifications”.[13] VSA 10 can be installed on premises with a product key and licence file, or as a 30-day trial.[6] VSA 9’s License Manager shows the licence code and two dates. The Expiration Date is for “running the system “as is” with the current license code”. The Maintenance Expiration Date is for upgrades and technical support.[4] Add-on module licences (for example backup, endpoint security and desktop management) appear only if purchased and installed.[4]

Counting / floors
Datto RMM
What consumes a licence. Servers, desktops and laptops with the Datto RMM Agent installed consume licences, as do managed network devices, printers and ESXi devices. Devices “that have not yet been approved will not consume a license”. Devices already approved still consume one if their approval status changes because of an encryption key change. Datto Networking and Datto Continuity devices do not count.[2] Agentless monitoring is therefore not free. A monitored switch or printer counts like a server. Catalog proof: Unapproved Datto RMM devices do not consume a licence.
Committed Minimum Quantity (from November 2025). Datto RMM and Autotask PSA Licenses receive CMQ billing treatment from November 2025, reflected on invoices after December 1, 2025. For subscriptions already mid-term, the CMQ is the licence count on the account as of November 2025. Use above the CMQ in any calendar month is invoiced as variable usage at the current licence rate.[1] The Master Agreement defines CMQ as the licences originally purchased plus later purchases through Orders or the Kaseya Portal store, and variable usage can never reduce billing below it.[9] The help centre states that Kaseya “is ending its high watermark pricing policy for Datto RMM”. It also states that the former 10% overage buffer is withdrawn.[3] Catalog proof: Datto RMM and Autotask PSA billed on CMQ plus variable usage from November 2025; Datto RMM 10% overage buffer withdrawn.
Measurement point. From December 1, 2025, monthly usage “will be calculated using the license count at midnight UTC on the last day of the previous month”.[3] Kaseya’s own examples: a CMQ of 200 with 205 devices on November 30 bills 205, and 195 devices on December 31 bills the CMQ of 200.[3] The product terms state the same rule as fees based on “the higher of” committed licences “or the actual License use, as of the previous month”.[1] A single month-end snapshot, not a peak or an average, sets the bill. The documented way to reduce variable usage is to delete devices that no longer need management.[3] Catalog proof: Datto RMM monthly usage measured at midnight UTC on the last day of the month; Datto RMM fees are the higher of committed licences or actual use.
Add-on modules. CMQ billing applies to Datto RMM, Advanced Software Management and Ransomware Detection licences.[3] Advanced Software Management and Ransomware Detection “previously had no limits, and no billing for usage above limits”; this use is now billed.[3] Licences for all three are added automatically when devices exceed the CMQ. When usage reaches zero an add-on can be deactivated, but existing configurations that result in usage still incur charges.[2] Catalog proof: Datto RMM licences above Kaseya 365 counts are now billed.
Kaseya 365 first. Licence selection is automatic. Available Kaseya 365 Endpoint licences go to new devices first, then Datto RMM licences, and then the device becomes variable usage.[3] Catalog proof: Kaseya 365 Endpoint licences are consumed before Datto RMM licences.
Reductions. The CMQ cannot be lowered on the Licenses page. “Reductions to your Committed Minimum Quantity can only be made when renewing a contract.”[2] Catalog proof: Datto RMM CMQ can be reduced only at contract renewal.
Transition periods. A free transition period at the start of an Order does not count toward the Committed Service Term, which then starts on the first of the following month. A ramped-fee period with all licences provisioned at the start does not change the term or the licence count.[1]
Kaseya VSA
Agent licences (VSA 9 documentation). An unused agent licence becomes used “if a machine ID account is created and the agent installed”. The licence remains used if the agent is deleted but not the account. It returns to unused only when the account is deleted. Machine ID templates do not count until an agent is installed.[4] A decommissioned machine whose account is left in VSA therefore keeps consuming a licence. Licences can be allocated by organisation, machine group and sub-group, with an “Agents Max” per row.[4] Catalog proof: VSA agent licence stays used until the machine ID account is deleted.
Role type licences. VSA 9 licensing “is purchased by role type”, with separate role types for users and machines. Each role type licence “specifies the number of named users and concurrent users allowed”, and sessions can be logged off when a concurrent maximum is reached.[4] Catalog proof: VSA role type licences set named and concurrent user limits.
VSA 10. Third-party software patching is licensed separately. The Patch Management License page shows managed devices using those licences against the total allocation, and an expiration date.[5] Mobile devices that are not yet activated appear as offline and “will not consume licenses until activated”.[7] Catalog proof: VSA 10 non-activated MDM devices do not consume licences.
On-premise limit. For on-premise Licenses, the customer “may only deploy or possess the number of copies of Products and Licenses as purchased”.[9] Catalog proof: On-premise deployments limited to purchased copies.
Virtualization & partitioning
Neither platform has a processor or host-based metric. Datto RMM counts ESXi hosts as devices, and its list of agent devices (servers, desktops and laptops) does not distinguish virtual from physical machines.[2] The retrieved documents contain no rule that covers guests through a host licence. VSA counts each machine ID with an installed agent, physical or virtual.[4]
Cloud / BYOL
Datto RMM is delivered from Kaseya’s cloud platform,[14] and the retrieved documents describe no on-premise edition. VSA 10 can be installed on a customer server. For a trial, Kaseya requires an installation code based on the server’s fully qualified domain name (FQDN). A licensed server needs an externally accessible FQDN that matches the URL specified at purchase.[6] The documents contain no rule about the hosting platform of an on-premise VSA server, so a public cloud virtual machine is not treated differently. Agent Software may be used only with a Kaseya Product and within the licence units of its Service Subscription, and the licence ends with the subscription.[12] Catalog proof: Agent Software may not be used beyond the Service Subscription licence units.
Data and transfers. During a subscription Datto RMM retains the most recent 90 days of Content, which is not exportable. After termination it retains nothing. Moving licences to a new account “requires the re-deployment of agents on all endpoints”. No historical data, settings, policies or scripts are transferred.[1] Catalog proof: Transferring Datto RMM licences requires redeploying agents.
Programs
- Committed Minimum Quantity for Datto RMM and its add-ons, described above.
- Maintenance Subscription. Perpetual licences of the Kaseya Core Bundle and Add-On Modules require an annual Maintenance Subscription at purchase. The initial cost is “20% of the then current list price”. Maintenance is all or nothing per component, and Core Bundle maintenance is a precondition for Add-On maintenance. Reinstatement after a lapse costs the back fees plus 10%.[10] Catalog proof: Initial maintenance costs 20% of list price; Maintenance is all or nothing per Eligible Component; Add-On maintenance requires Core Bundle maintenance; Lapsed maintenance reinstated with back fees plus 10%.
- Supported versions. For on-premise Products, Kaseya supports “any Product version that has been the current version during the past one (1) year”.[11] Catalog proof: On-premise versions supported for one year after being current.
- Trial. VSA 10 on premises offers a free 30-day trial licence that can be upgraded to production “without needing to reenter licensing information”.[6] Catalog proof: VSA 10 on-premises offers a 30-day trial or a production licence.

- Autotask PSA, BMS and Vorex user licensing, which share the Datto RMM terms but are not described here beyond CMQ.
