Siemens Digital Industries Software licensing

Siemens Digital Industries Software licensing is how Siemens Digital Industries Software (SISW) licenses its product lifecycle management (PLM) software, including NX, Teamcenter, Solid Edge and Simcenter. The base contract is the Universal Customer Agreement (UCA), version 1.3, applicable from 13 April 2026.[1] Supplemental Terms amend the UCA for each portfolio, and each set applies to the offerings that carry its alphanumeric code on the Order.[4] The Standard Supplemental Terms cover offerings coded SRD, SRD-A, MGSP or PLM. They define the license types used across the PLM portfolio: Floating (Concurrent User), Named User and Node-Locked seats, sold as Perpetual, Subscription or Rental licenses. Tokens, License Units and Core-based licenses are layered on top.[2] Cloud offerings follow the SaaS Supplemental Terms[3], and Simcenter offerings coded SIM-CDA, SIM-LMS or SIM-TASS follow the Simcenter Supplemental Terms.[4]

Editions

SISW’s terms are organized by order code rather than by product name. The Standard Supplemental Terms apply “solely with regard to Offerings and Products which have been assigned any of the following alphanumeric codes on the Order: SRD, SRD-A, MGSP, or PLM.”[2] The maintenance terms index also lists product-specific codes such as PLM-NX, PLM-TC and PLM-TCO under the PLM Software Specific Maintenance Services Terms.[6] Read the code on each Order line before applying any rule on this page.

On Siemens pages retrieved on 26 September 2026, the NX X token licensing page is titled “Designcenter X Value Based Licensing Tokens,” and Solid Edge is marketed as “Designcenter Solid Edge.”[7][10] Designcenter X add-ons require a core seat license (Designcenter X Standard, Advanced or Premium).[7] Designcenter X Solid Edge is the SaaS form of Solid Edge and “utilizes cloud-enabled named user licensing.” Further Solid Edge subscription and licensing options are available through authorized Siemens Solution Partners.[10] No list prices appear in the terms cited here.

A SISW Token is “a pre-paid unit which an Authorized User can temporarily convert into a license”, and “A Token may be reused during its term.”[2] A Credit “can be consumed during the Subscription Term … and [is] not re-usable.”[3] Siemens markets product-specific tokens as Value Based Licensing: “Each add-on and tool in the library has a value,” and that value is subtracted from a shared floating pool while the add-on is checked out.[7] For the cross-vendor families, see Named user licensing, Concurrent and device licensing and Subscription and consumption licensing.

Counting / floors

Named User: once-a-month re-assignment (Standard ST v1.1, 2025-12-15). A Named User license “may not be used by multiple individuals.” The customer “may re-assign a Named User license to a different individual once per calendar month.”[2] The SaaS Supplemental Terms apply the same monthly rule to cloud Named User entitlements.[3] Catalog proof: Named User licenses: one individual, re-assignable once per calendar month (backs Named User licenses: one individual, re-assignable once per calendar month).

Floating: peak simultaneous Authorized Users (2025-12-15). Access “at any given moment is limited to the number of Authorized Users for whom SRD licenses have been acquired.” An Authorized User is a Customer employee or an Authorized Agent working on Customer premises. When the Territory spans more than one country, the definition also covers staff of Customer Subsidiaries (more than 50% owned).[2] Catalog proof: Floating licenses: simultaneous Authorized Users may not exceed licenses acquired (backs Floating licenses: simultaneous Authorized Users may not exceed licenses acquired).

Indirect use (2025-12-15). “Indirect use of SRD Offerings via hardware or software used by Customer does not reduce the number of Authorized User entitlements that Customer needs to acquire.”[2] Catalog proof: Indirect use does not reduce Authorized User entitlements (backs Indirect use does not reduce Authorized User entitlements).

Tokens need a base license and current maintenance (2025-12-15). Unless the product Documentation says otherwise, Tokens may be used only by a customer that has bought a separate base license for that product. New functionality reachable through Tokens is available only if both the base license and the Tokens are on an active Maintenance Services Order.[2] The Simcenter terms state the same rule for Value Based Licenses.[4] Catalog proof: Tokens require a base license; new token-accessible functionality requires active maintenance (backs Tokens require a base license; new token-accessible functionality requires active maintenance).

Designcenter X Value Based Licensing pool (undated page, as of 2026-09-26). Any named user may check out any add-on in the pool “as long as you don’t exceed the combined token count that you have purchased.” Tokens are sold in packs of 50 as a yearly subscription.[7] NX X Manufacturing add-ons “are delivered exclusively using our innovative Value Based Licensing model.”[8] Catalog proof: Designcenter X Value Based Licensing: floating token pool, core seat prerequisite (backs Designcenter X Value Based Licensing: floating token pool, core seat prerequisite).

Core-based SRD-A licenses (2025-12-15). If an SRD-A license is Core-based and the Order gives no number of Cores, “each license entitles use of one single Core.” Several licenses may be combined.[2] Cores are counted “as reported by the operating systems,” and GPU cores count as well as CPU cores.[2] See Processor and core licensing. License Units: LMS and monthly logs (2025-12-15). License Units are tokens that can be used across multiple eligible SRD-A offerings. They require SISW’s license management system, and its Transaction Log Files “must be provided to SISW on at least a monthly basis.”[2] Catalog proof: License Units require the LMS and monthly Transaction Log Files (backs License Units require the LMS and monthly Transaction Log Files).

Simcenter Flex Tokens (Simcenter ST v1.4, 2023-04-01). Flex Tokens require a Simcenter Flex Base license option and may run only on installations enrolled in the Product Excellence Program. Power on Demand hours (2023-04-01). Each Session counts its full elapsed time against the hours purchased. “Any unused hours are forfeited at the expiration of the 12 month Subscription license term.”[4] A Power Token can be redeemed in three ways: 10 Power Tokens for a limited STAR-CCM+ Serial Session without solvers, 1 Power Token for one HPC option (one additional Core), or 1 Power Token for one Design Manager Session.[4] Catalog proof: Power on Demand: elapsed Session hours counted; unused hours forfeited after 12 months (backs Power on Demand: elapsed Session hours counted; unused hours forfeited after 12 months).

Simcenter X (undated page, as of 2026-09-26). Excess use and audit (UCA v1.3, 2026-04-13). The customer pays for “any excess use of an Offering at the then-current price.” Siemens may embed a reporting mechanism in the Software. The customer may run a self-audit with Siemens inventory tools, starting within 20 business days of notice and finishing within 20 business days. Seeds (2025-12-15). SISW may grant free “Seed” entitlements to measure future needs. The customer must hand over the license management system data about Seed use, and renewal after the Seed term is at SISW’s discretion.[2] Catalog proof: Seed entitlements require sharing license usage data (backs Seed entitlements require sharing license usage data).

Virtualization & partitioning

The UCA and the Supplemental Terms cited here define no virtual machine, host, socket or partitioning rule for Floating, Named User or Node-Locked licenses. SISW does not publish a virtualization licensing policy in these documents. What the terms do say:

Territory (2025-12-15). Licenses may be used only in the Territory on the Order. The Territory can be a Site, a country, or time-zone Zones: Americas UTC-11 to UTC-1, EMEA UTC-1 to UTC+4, and APAC UTC+4 to UTC-12. If the Order names no Territory, it is the customer’s country. “Separate installations must be maintained for SISW software licensed with different Territory specifications.”[2] Catalog proof: Territory: Site, time-zone Zones or country; separate installations per Territory (backs Territory: Site, time-zone Zones or country; separate installations per Territory).

Cloud / BYOL

Third party hosting needs written consent (2025-12-15). “Customer may only engage a third party to host Software with SISW’s prior written consent. SISW may require a separate written agreement as a condition to such consent.”[2] The UCA also forbids using an Offering for the benefit of a third party without Siemens’s prior written consent.[1] SISW publishes no vCPU or core mapping for running PLM licenses on a hyperscaler. Cloud Services inside SRD offerings (2025-12-15). Cloud Services bundled into an SRD Offering may be used worldwide by the number of Authorized Users on the Order, and only with that offering’s software. Guest users “will not count towards the limited number of Authorized Users,” but every user must be named. Designcenter X Solid Edge offline grace (undated page, as of 2026-09-26). Named users may install on several machines. The Standard Supplemental Terms also define Backup, Test/QA, Per Product and Per Server license types. These are use restrictions rather than purchase programs.[2]

Maintenance coverage (General Maintenance Terms v1.5, 2025-12-12). “Customer must purchase Maintenance Services for all supported Software used at a single location.” SISW may raise maintenance fees with at least sixty days’ notice before the current term ends.[5] Changes to the maintenance terms take effect only when the customer renews.[5] Catalog proof: Maintenance must cover all supported Software used at a single location (backs Maintenance must cover all supported Software used at a single location). Out of scope

  • List prices and part numbers. None are published in the cited terms. The single SKU row is the online offering “Designcenter X Value Based Licensing (50 count),” with no part number.
  • Token values per add-on. Designcenter X lists them in the application under Help → About Designcenter, not in a public document.
  • PLM Software Specific Maintenance Services Terms (April 13, 2026). The PDF is linked by script on the maintenance index and was not retrieved; any reinstatement fee for lapsed maintenance is therefore not covered here.
