- SCSA §3.2.3: "Device Use: a license or right to use the Software on any Device that hosts Software that can be run, accessed, or used by another Device." Device (§3.1.5) is "any physical or virtual environment, node, server, computer, or other digital workstation, electronic, cellular, or computing equipment that runs, accesses, or utilizes the services of the Software."

- Physical and virtual environments count alike under the Device definition. A Client is a Device running or accessing the Software on a Server (§3.1.4). Where a designated Device is specified, use is limited to it (§3.4.3).
