ThoughtSpot licensing

This article is an overview of how ThoughtSpot licenses its analytics platform: the Essentials, Pro and Enterprise editions, user-based and credit-based pricing, ThoughtSpot Embedded, AgentSpot and the Spotter AI features. Deeper articles cover editions and limits, consumption credits, Embedded, the Cloud Subscription Agreement and the AI products. It is not legal advice.

On This Page

ThoughtSpot licensing is the set of terms under which ThoughtSpot, Inc. sells its search and AI-driven analytics platform, mostly as a cloud subscription. The public pricing page presents two product families: ThoughtSpot Analytics, with Essentials, Pro and Enterprise plans, and ThoughtSpot Embedded, with Developer and Enterprise plans for analytics placed inside another company’s application.[1] A third product, AgentSpot, is an AI work assistant that connects business data, internal knowledge and external tools, and it is metered separately.[6] ThoughtSpot also still publishes licence terms for software installed by the customer, which this wiki treats as a legacy form.[7]

The Cloud Subscription Agreement (version 29 April 2026) is the master contract for ThoughtSpot Cloud. It is accepted by signing an order form, by clicking through an online order or marketplace form, or by using the service. It incorporates the order form and the Cloud Program Guide, and among conflicting documents the order form wins, then the main body, then the Program Guide.[2] Each order form is non-cancellable and non-refundable, prices in it are final, and each Subscription Term is a “non-divisible, continuous commitment, regardless of the invoice schedule”.[2] The contract is covered in ThoughtSpot Cloud Subscription Agreement and Program Guide.

Editions

The pricing page shows three Analytics plans and two Embedded plans, each with a price shown for a User view or a Usage view.[1] The edition documentation additionally lists a Team edition and an Embedded Pro edition.[3]

Edition Published price signal Published limits Notes
Essentials From USD 25 per user per month, billed annually 5 to 50 users; up to 25M rows The Program Guide support terms do not apply to Essentials[1][5]
Pro, user-based From USD 50 per user per month, billed annually Up to 1000 users and 250M rows; Spotter AI Agents at 25 queries per month per user Multi-tenant Pro in the documentation[1][3]
Pro, usage-based From USD 0.10 per credit Up to 1000 users and 250M rows; Spotter AI Agents with unlimited LLM tokens Credits are described in the consumption pricing documentation[1][4]
Enterprise Custom pricing Unlimited users and data Orgs and the strongest security controls are Enterprise features[1][10]
Team Edition Not on the pricing page 5 users; 5 million rows; 1 permission group Monthly auto-renewing term[2][3]
Embedded Developer Free for 1 year Up to 10 users; up to 25M rows See the Embedded article[1]
Embedded Enterprise Flexible pricing models aligned with the use case and go-to-market Unlimited users and rows; up to 400 Orgs in the documentation See the Embedded article[1][3]

Edition details, including the administration and security differences between editions, are in ThoughtSpot editions and usage limits. Add-ons listed on the pricing page include the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, an in-memory data cache (Analyst Studio or Spotcache), Analyst Studio features such as data prep and SQL, R and Python analysis, Unlimited Spotter, and embedded use for internal enterprise applications.[1]

Metrics

ThoughtSpot uses several unrelated measures, and which one applies depends on the edition and the pricing view.

  • Authorized User. An employee of the customer or a customer Affiliate, an employee of the customer’s agents, advisors and contractors, or an embedded third-party user, who was given access credentials.[2] Credentials may not be shared with anyone other than the person they were assigned to.[2]
  • Row. A data item in a table of a supported Connections source such as Snowflake. The subscription must cover the total rows across all Connections made available for querying.[3]
  • Credit. The unit of consumption pricing, consumed by queries or by time-based usage, with one pricing model per cluster.[4]
  • Data to Outcome credit. The AgentSpot unit, consumed per conversation, workflow run or app load.[6]
  • Permission group and Org. Structural ceilings by edition.[3]

The cloud agreement says that use is allowed “to the extent specified (including regarding limits on rows, credits, groups, integration or embedding, external use, or other limits) in the applicable Order Form”.[2] That sentence is the contractual hook for every ceiling in the edition tables. Catalog proof: Cloud subscription use is limited to Authorized Users and the order form limits.

Counting / floors

Users. Under the user-based view, a plan is counted by named credential and bounded by the edition ceiling: Essentials from 5 to 50 users, Pro up to 1000 users on the pricing page.[1] Contractors and affiliates who receive credentials count as Authorized Users.[2]

Rows. ThoughtSpot sums unique rows per Connection, including rows made available through an Analyst Studio dataset and rows from uploaded CSV files.[3] The ceilings by edition are 5 million (Team), 25 million (Essentials), 250 million (Pro multi-tenant), 500 million (Pro) and unlimited (Enterprise) for Analytics, and 25 million, 5 billion and unlimited for Embedded Developer, Pro and Enterprise.[3]

Credits. Under consumption pricing each active user consumes credits through searching, viewing or editing Liveboards and Answers, modeling, administrative changes, Spotter interactions and Analyst Studio use.[4] The mechanics, including base and flexible credits and their rollover, are in ThoughtSpot consumption pricing and credits.

Over-use. The cloud agreement has no separate audit section. Its payment clause provides that if the customer has exceeded its permitted use rights, ThoughtSpot notifies the customer and, within 30 days, the customer must either reduce use to match its permissions or buy subscription rights matching actual use.[2] The customer-installed Application and Embedded Application agreements add that ThoughtSpot may verify compliance with the customer’s reasonable cooperation, with the same 30-day choice.[7][8] Catalog proof: Use above the permitted rights must be reduced or bought within 30 days.

Virtualization & partitioning

ThoughtSpot Cloud is licensed by user, row, credit or DO credit, not by processor, core or host, and the documents retrieved contain no rule about virtual machines or partitioning for the cloud service. The Application and Embedded Application agreements for customer-installed software refer to limits on rows, credits, groups, copies and “other metric” in the order form, and name no processor metric either.[7][8] For the general treatment of virtualization, see virtualization and partitioning.

Cloud / BYOL

ThoughtSpot Cloud is a vendor-hosted service, so bring-your-own-licence does not apply to it. Two points matter for the data and AI layers. First, ThoughtSpot answers queries from a customer’s connected data warehouse, a system cache or descriptive metadata, which is what the credit-based documentation counts.[4] Second, the pricing page states that “ThoughtSpot does not meter or charge for LLM tokens” and that, if the customer uses its own LLM provider, “that provider’s fees may apply”.[1] The Spotter administration page lets an administrator choose a ThoughtSpot-provided LLM or supply a custom key through support, and it lists the older Sage search option as deprecated.[11] The consumption pricing documentation also says the credit model is available for ThoughtSpot software deployed on the customer’s own cloud platform through Connections.[4]

Programs

Out of scope

This article does not cover the contract clauses in depth, the arithmetic of credit rollover, or the licensing of the Embedded and AI products, which have their own articles listed under See also. It does not cover negotiated discounts, partner pricing or anything in an order form, none of which ThoughtSpot publishes. Several smaller products have separate terms that are only summarised in the catalog: ThoughtSpot Mode products under a Mode Subscription Addendum,[12] SeekWell, and the ThoughtSpot Apps terms of use for add-ins; all are listed on the ThoughtSpot legal page.[9] The wiki found no court case about ThoughtSpot licensing, audits or licence scope with a primary court record, so no case article is included.
