Genesys licenses contact-centre and customer-experience software in two broad generations. The current platform, Genesys Cloud CX, is a multi-tenant service hosted on Amazon Web Services and sold as a subscription.[2] The earlier on-premises products, Genesys Engage and PureConnect, are licensed on the customer’s own servers, with licence files, technical licence keys and usage reporting.[11][12] A software asset manager at a Genesys customer usually has to reconcile several overlapping layers: a per-user edition, a counting model (named, concurrent or hourly), optional add-ons, token-metered AI features, per-user fair use allowances for usage-based resources, and the contract that governs commitment, overage and renewal.
Editions
Genesys Cloud CX is offered as four editions, CX 1 to CX 4. The Genesys pricing page lists them, on a Named, annual-commitment view, at USD 75, 115, 155 and 240 per user per month respectively.[1] CX 1 is described as the voice contact-centre edition, CX 2 adds digital channels and quality assurance, CX 3 adds workforce engagement management, and CX 4 adds journey management and 30 AI Experience tokens per named agent.[1] Digital-only editions, CX 2 Digital and CX 3 Digital, exist for organisations whose users do not handle voice.[1] A separate base licence, Genesys Cloud EX, covers employee-experience and workforce-engagement use without handling interactions in Genesys Cloud.[13]
The editions differ in what is included and what is an add-on. On the comparison table, digital channels, omnichannel routing, workforce engagement management and speech and text analytics are add-ons on CX 1, while CX 2 includes digital channels and CX 3 and CX 4 include the workforce engagement features.[1] The detail is in Genesys Cloud CX editions and licence types. Catalog rows: Genesys Cloud CX 1, CX 2, CX 3 and CX 4.
Metrics
Genesys describes three licence types for Genesys Cloud CX. A Named licence is tied to a specific, identifiable user, a Concurrent licence is based on simultaneous active usage, and an Hourly Interacting licence charges only for time spent handling interactions.[1] The pricing FAQ states that named and concurrent models may not be mixed and that a premium is charged for concurrent users.[1]
- Named. Anyone logged in during the billing period is a billable named user, billed at the highest user type licence assigned in the period regardless of how long they were logged in.[4] See Named user.
- Concurrent. Genesys charges for the peak number of simultaneous users in the billing period and disregards peaks shorter than 30 minutes; the calculation is limited to a single organisation.[5] See Concurrent user.
- Hourly Interacting. Time with a Routing Status of Communicating or Interacting is summed; users with administrative or supervisory permissions are moved to full monthly metering.[6] See Hourly Interacting.
- AI Experience token. Most AI features are metered in tokens with per-feature conversion rates, described in Genesys Cloud AI Experience tokens.[7]
Counting / floors
The contractual floor is the quantity on the Services Order. The Genesys Cloud Services Agreement states that committed fees are invoiced in advance, that excess usage is charged monthly in arrears at the Services Order pricing, and that unused committed quantities are forfeited with no cash value.[2] For users above the contracted count, Genesys documents that overage is billed monthly in arrears at the on-demand per-user rate on the Services Order, and says that fair use allowances do not apply to users.[16] Other resources carry a fair use allowance calculated per billable user: BYOC Cloud minutes, data storage, basic routing and IVR minutes, API requests, voice transcription minutes and BYO SMS messages.[8] See Genesys Cloud fair use, add-ons and usage billing.
Each organisation also receives free monthly allocations that do not depend on user count: one wallboard account, 250 AI tokens for a named organisation or 350 for a concurrent one, 50,000 rule executions and 150 cases.[14]
Virtualization & partitioning
Genesys Cloud is a hosted service, so server virtualisation rules do not apply to it. The relevant boundary is the Genesys Cloud organisation: concurrency is calculated within one organisation and is not aggregated across several.[5] For on-premises PureConnect, subscription customers on 2020 R2 or later can run CIC and Media servers in a fully virtualised deployment, and a virtual cloud licence key makes the server check in with Genesys Cloud every 12 hours.[11] These are covered in Genesys PureConnect and Engage on-premises licensing.
Cloud / BYOL
Genesys Cloud is delivered as a service, and the agreement states that the customer has no right to a copy of the object or source code of the Cloud Services.[2] Voice connectivity can come from Genesys Cloud Voice or from the customer’s own carrier (BYOC); BYOC Cloud minutes fall under the fair use policy with an overage rate per minute.[8] Genesys Engage documentation separates cloud offerings, where no licences are issued and no licence compliance tools are required, from hybrid arrangements, where software installed on the customer’s premises remains subject to the same licence terms as other purchased Genesys software.[12]
Programs
Genesys documents several commercial constructs rather than a single enterprise agreement:
| Construct | What it does | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Services Order commitment and overage | Commit in advance; overage monthly in arrears; unused commitment forfeited | [2] |
| Automatic renewal | Renews unless notice is given at least 45 days before the renewal term; renewal pricing can change | [2] |
| Month-to-month billing after term end | Moves to published rates, billed in arrears, with no prepay | [10] |
| Fair use policy | Per-user allowances with overage rates | [8] |
| GCX Activate | Free trial provisioned only by Genesys sales, limited to 10 configured users | [15] |
The month-to-month transition deserves attention at renewal. Genesys documents that when a contracted term reaches its end date, the account moves automatically to month-to-month billing at standard published rates, billed in arrears, and that service continues without interruption. Its own example shows a contracted rate of USD 134.20 per user rising to USD 186 under month-to-month terms.[10]
Audits and compliance
The Genesys Cloud Services Agreement analysed for this wiki sets out access rights, use restrictions, payment and renewal terms, and, as retrieved, contains no clause titled audit.[2] Compliance for the cloud product is largely by metering: Genesys counts users from login and presence data and offers a Billable Usage report and a Concurrent Usage report so customers can reconcile counts.[4][5] For on-premises Engage, the licensing guide describes compliance as ensuring customers use the product according to licensing terms and investigating potential violations, and from release 8.5 it makes License Reporting Manager mandatory so customers can provide usage reports on request.[12] The related generic topics are software licence audits and true-up. No court case about Genesys software licensing or audits was identified in primary court records for this coverage, so there are no case articles.
Out of scope
This coverage does not describe professional services statements of work, partner resale margins, third-party AppFoundry products (which carry their own licence terms), or negotiated enterprise pricing. Genesys Cloud Voice country exhibits, SMS number pricing and the Genesys Cloud Services Agreement country variants are only referenced. Customer-specific rates appear only on the Services Order.
