Zoom licenses AI in two layers. Zoom AI Companion is the AI assistant integrated into Zoom’s applications and Services. The Services Description names meeting summaries, smart recordings and message composition among its capabilities.[1] Its features are included in Zoom Workplace plans, with usage limits on the free Basic plan.[5] ZoomMate is a per-user add-on licence for advanced, agentic and metered AI capabilities, which consume AI Credits.[2][3] For general background, see generative AI licensing.
AI features included in Zoom Workplace
The Workplace comparison table lists AI features by plan. On Basic they are capped: meeting summaries for 3 hosted meetings per month, 3 uses of AI note-taking, and 20 AI queries per month. Pro, Business and Enterprise have unlimited meeting summaries, in-meeting questions, AI note-taking and AI queries.[5] The same table states that these features “are not applicable to users with Basic permissions on paid accounts”. Included AI therefore follows a paid Zoom Workplace licence, not mere membership of a paid account.[5] Catalog proof: AI features exclude Basic users on paid accounts.
Under the Services Description, any output created with Zoom AI Companion “is deemed Customer Content”.[1] The Terms of Service state that Zoom does not use audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments or other communications-like Customer Content to train Zoom or third-party AI models.[6] Some AI Companion functionality on the commercial platform may not be available in Zoom for Government.[1] Catalog proof: Customer content not used to train AI models.
Custom AI Companion add-on. The Services Description defines a separate multi-feature add-on for customizing AI Companion. It covers customized knowledge sources and integrations, custom meeting summary templates, custom avatars and skill additions. Each “CAIC User” is deemed a Host.[1] It is therefore counted per assigned individual, like other Host-based Services. See the Host metric.
ZoomMate licence
The ZoomMate pricing page shows two plans:[2]

The Using ZoomMate article lists the eligible plans. Some ZoomMate features are available on Zoom Workplace Pro, Pro Plus, Business, Business Plus, Enterprise, Enterprise Plus or Enterprise Bundle accounts. However, “use of advanced and metered AI features requires a ZoomMate license and available AI Credits”.[3] Without an available credit balance, use of certain metered features in ZoomMate is limited.[3] ZoomMate may not be available for select verticals and select regional customers.[3] The pricing page lists ZoomMate as an add-on and states that add-ons require a paid base plan.[5] Catalog proof: Advanced AI features need a ZoomMate licence and credits; ZoomMate licence includes 2,200 AI credits per user per month.
The AI Productivity Suite (Canvas, Sheets, Slides and Paper) is also sold as a separate Workplace add-on, at $10 per month billed monthly.[5] Its AI Create and AI Edit actions are among the metered actions that consume credits.[4]
AI Credits
What credits meter. Zoom AI credits “are required to access and use certain metered AI-powered capabilities across Zoom products, including ZoomMate and the AI Productivity Suite”. Each metered action consumes a varying number of credits.[4] Consumption depends on factors such as the prompt and requested action, its complexity, the AI models used, the amount of data processed and the capability used.[4] Zoom’s example list of metered actions covers:[4]
- AI Create and AI Edit in Slides, Sheets and Paper;
- ZoomMate tasks that generate or modify Canvas content;
- agentic workflow runs that use AI nodes, advanced tool nodes or third-party nodes;
- building and running AI agents and skills;
- agentic search, including indexing and third-party repositories;
- Deep Research;
- Revenue Accelerator AI role-play and complex queries.
Zoom says the list is not exhaustive and that it may add metered capabilities at its discretion.[4]
What is not metered. “Many AI features in Zoom Workplace”, such as meeting summaries, note-taking, chat compose, phone summaries and whiteboard content generation, “are not currently metered and do not consume credits”. Using AI Create or AI Actions directly in Zoom Canvas consumes no credits either. The same work done through the ZoomMate work surface does.[4] Catalog proof: Many Workplace AI features are not metered.
Allotment and pooling. Plans include varying credit amounts, often allotted per licence or user, and monthly allotments refresh at the subscription anniversary date.[4] All credits are pooled at the account level, whatever their source: plans, prepaid commitments or credit packs.[4] A user’s draw is capped by a credit limit, which by default equals the standard allotment of the user’s licence. Zoom’s example is ten licences with 1,000 credits each, giving a pool of 10,000 credits and a default limit of 1,000 per user.[4] Admins can set custom limits. If the limits add up to more than the pool (overallocation), users can be blocked when the pool runs out. If they add up to less (underallocation), credits go unused.[4] Catalog proof: AI Credits pooled at account level.
Expiry. Monthly credits allotted under monthly or annual subscription plans expire at the subscription anniversary date and do not roll over. Credit-pack credits expire one year after purchase. Prepaid-commitment credits expire at the end of the billing cycle.[4] Catalog proof: Monthly plan credits expire without rollover.
Buying more. When usage exceeds the included amount, admins can buy prepaid credit packs or prepaid credits as part of a monthly commitment. The methods available depend on whether the plan was bought online or through a sales quote. Accounts can also configure overage usage and limits.[4] Credit packs are sold online only.[4] The AI Credit Pack runs “from $25 for 2,750 credits to $100 for 11,500 credits” with 12-month validity.[2] See the AI Credit prepaid commitment and credit packs program row.
Monitoring. Users can view their own credit usage. Admins can view the account’s plan and credit balance and each user’s usage, manage credit limits, set usage notifications, and generate an AI credit usage report.[4]
Practical counting
For a software asset manager, Zoom AI entitlements come down to three counts:
- Paid Zoom Workplace licences, which carry the included AI Companion features. Users with Basic permissions on a paid account are excluded.[5]
- ZoomMate licences, or Custom AI Companion users, assigned per individual.[2][1]
- The account-level AI Credit pool, with its per-user limits, expiry dates and any overage configuration.[4]
Credits are consumed rather than assigned, so the admin credit usage report, not the user list, is the compliance record for metered AI.[4] Beta AI services are governed by separate Beta Program Terms of Use, not by the Terms of Service.[6]
