monday.com plans, seat buckets and user types describes how monday.com packages and counts users. Each of its four products, monday work management (the “monday AI work platform”), monday CRM, monday dev and monday service, is priced on its own. A customer chooses a plan and a number of seats for each product.[1] The pricing FAQ says the price depends on “two factors; the feature plan you’d like to use, and the number of users on the platform”, paid monthly or annually in one upfront instalment.[2]

| monday work management | Yes (2 seats) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Enterprise |

Source for the table: the plans and pricing support article and the Free plan article.[1][7] The catalog lists each plan as a SKU, for example monday work management Standard, monday CRM Basic, monday dev Standard and monday service Standard.
Plan differences that affect counting are listed below:
- Free (work management only). Two seats, three boards and 200 items. Viewers and guests cannot be invited. An account moving to Free must already have no more members than the Free plan allows.[7] Catalog proof: Free plan limited to two seats.
- Basic. Unlimited free viewers and unlimited items, but no shareable boards and therefore no guests.[2][4]
- Standard. Guest access, timeline and calendar views, 250 automation and 250 integration actions per month, and 1,000 API calls per day.[2]
- Pro. Private boards, time tracking, 25,000 automation and integration actions per month, 10,000 API calls per day, and unlimited guests.[2][4]
- Enterprise. Custom price, enterprise security and governance, up to 250,000 actions per month, and Enterprise support with a 99.9% uptime SLA.[2]
monday CRM plans also cap records: Basic allows “up to 1,000 contacts, leads, deals, and more”, Standard up to 10,000, and Pro an unlimited number.[9] monday service caps Customer Portal access at 10 users on Standard and 100 on Pro.[10] Catalog proof: monday CRM Basic limited to 1,000 contacts; monday service Customer Portal user limits.
Bundles
Products can be bundled with different plans and seat counts, “but all products must share the same billing cycle, whether monthly or yearly”. In Enterprise accounts every bundled product must be on Enterprise, with a minimum term of 12 months.[1] Seats are allocated per product. A user who holds a seat on one product but not another is a “Product non-member” there, with viewer capabilities plus the ability to write and like updates.[3] Since the 2024 product separation, seats added to monday CRM no longer include access to the AI work platform.[11] Catalog proof: Seats are allocated per product; Added CRM seats exclude AI work platform access.
Metrics
- Seat. Each member uses one seat. “if you are on the Standard plan with 10 seats, you can invite up to 10 members.”[3]
- Seat bucket. The purchasable group of seats.
- Guest and Viewer. Non-member user types with their own billing rules.
- CRM contact. A plan limit, not a billing metric.
Counting / floors
Seat buckets
“The pricing works per group of seats and not per seat. We call this bucket pricing.” Plans “start at a minimum of 3 seats, and then ascend in multiples of 5”, so a team of four buys the 5-seat option and a team of six the 10-seat plan.[1] The pricing page’s team-size selector offers buckets, and its FAQ notes that above 40 users a quote can be requested.[2] At checkout, seat options below the number of active users are greyed out, so users must be deactivated before a smaller bucket can be chosen.[1] Catalog proof: Seats sold in buckets of 3 then multiples of 5; Cannot buy fewer seats than active users.
The bucket model means a licence position is measured against the bucket bought, not against the people using it. A 10-seat Standard plan used by 7 members has 3 idle seats. Adding an 11th member leads to the 15-seat bucket.[5]
User types
| User type | Who | Billing |
|---|---|---|
| Admin | Account managers with full access, including billing | Uses a seat |
| Member | Team members with editing access | One seat each |
| Viewer | Read-only team members | Free and unlimited on paid plans; none on Free |
| Guest | External users with a different email domain | Not on Basic; 4 guests per seat on Standard (3 free); unlimited on Pro and Enterprise |
| Product non-member | Seat on one product, viewer-like on others | Seat only on the product where they are a member |
Sources for the table: the user types and guest pricing articles.[3][4]
On Standard, “every 4 guests count as 1 billed seat”. Up to three guests are free, the fourth guest makes a group that uses one seat, and so on. Members and guest groups together must fit within the plan’s seat count.[4] “Viewers do not count toward billing”, and viewers can invite other viewers unless an admin blocks it.[3] Catalog proof: Standard plan bills every 4 guests as 1 seat; Viewers are unlimited and unbilled; No guests on the Basic plan.
The Terms of Service make the customer responsible for assigning the correct user type. If internal users, including users from affiliates, subsidiaries or the same email domain, are assigned as guests, monday.com may “reassign such user types as appropriate, impose additional restrictions and/or charge additional fees”.[6] Third-party automated systems and AI agents that use the account must also be given an appropriate user type.[6] Catalog proof: Internal users may not be classed as guests; Guests need a different email domain; AI agents must be assigned the right user type.
How the user count grows
Unless an admin disables these options, “Users within the same email domain will be able to automatically join the Account”, and existing users may invite others.[6] The customer is responsible for all its users’ activities, including Order Forms they place.[6] Any change in the number of users restarts the Subscription Term for some or all Services. The change is billed at then-current rates, with fees already paid credited against the new fees, unless an Order Form provides for adding users pro rata.[6] Catalog proof: Same-domain users can join automatically; User count changes restart the Subscription Term; Customer responsible for all Users and their orders.
Auto-upgrade
“An auto-upgrade happens when the number of seats paid for on the account is exceeded and no action is taken to remove the extra users.”[5] The sequence is:
- The account exceeds its seats, for example an 11th user on a 10-seat Standard monthly plan.
- Admins receive warning emails at the start of a five-day countdown, then three days and one day before the upgrade.
- If nothing changes, the account moves to the next bucket (15 seats in the example) and is charged.
- Within 30 days, after reducing active seats, the customer can revert to the previous plan and ask Support for a refund of the upgrade cost.
The sequence is taken from the auto-upgrade article.[5] The guest article states that guest groups can also trigger an auto-upgrade.[4] Deactivating a user “removes the user from your account so they are no longer billable”, and changing a member to a viewer, or to a guest where the plan allows guests, also frees a seat.[5] Catalog: Seat auto-upgrade; proof Exceeding seats auto-upgrades after 5 days, Auto-upgrade can be reverted within 30 days, Deactivated users are not billable.
Billing cycle and price
Yearly billing carries an 18% discount over monthly billing.[1] Fees are stated in US dollars unless indicated otherwise.[6] The pricing page’s structured data gives USD 9, 12 and 19 per seat per month on annual billing for work management Basic, Standard and Pro, against USD 12, 14 and 24 on monthly billing.[2] Catalog: monday work management Basic, Standard, Pro.
Trials and nonprofits
New accounts start a free 14-day trial of the Pro plan. The trial needs no credit card, cannot be extended, and the account deactivates if it is not upgraded.[8] During a trial, the number of team members and guests is unlimited. Customers moving to a paid plan must fit the plan’s seat count.[4] Eligible nonprofits receive 10 free seats, 70% off additional seats and 33% off AI capabilities.[12] Catalog proof: Free trial cannot be extended; Nonprofits receive 10 free seats.
