Asana AI requests and AI Studio credits

This article covers how Asana meters its AI features: AI Requests for AI Teammates, Asana Dash and Meetings, AI Studio Credits for Smart Workflows, AI Resolutions in Asana Service Management, the included, prepaid and on-demand pools, and AI Studio Basic, Plus and Pro. Seat licensing is in Asana plans, seats and billing.

On This Page

Asana AI metering is the way Asana, Inc. charges for its AI features separately from seats. The Help Center puts it this way: “Asana uses two billable metrics to record, manage, and bill usage: AI Requests and AI Studio credits.”[5] AI Requests power AI Teammates, Asana Dash and Meetings. AI Studio Credits power Smart Workflows built in AI Studio. A third unit, the AI Resolution, applies to AI ticket resolution in Asana Service Management.[1] All three are granted under the Product-Specific Terms, which give “a non-exclusive, revocable, non-transferable, limited right to access and use Asana AI”.[1] The Help Center dates the current model: “Starting September 2026, your organization will gain access to advanced AI capabilities, including AI Teammates and Asana Dash”.[2]

Sources: the pricing page[4] and the Help Center.[2][3] AI Studio comes in three versions. “AI Studio Basic is included in all paid domains using Asana AI.” AI Studio Plus is a paid subscription with 100,000 credits that reset each month. Extra credits come in increments of 100,000, or a customer can buy 1.2 million credits for the year. AI Studio Pro is an annual package with “20 million credits valid for the entire annual term”.[3] The AI Teammates add-on license “can be added to any Starter, Advanced, Enterprise, or Enterprise+ user license” and is assigned to individual users by an admin.[6] Catalog proof: AI Studio Basic credit allowances per tier.

Metrics

AI Request

The Product-Specific Terms define an AI Request as “the completion of an interaction or series of interactions with an AI Agent as determined by Asana based on the complexity of the interaction or interactions”. Failed or timed-out interactions do not count. An AI Agent that resolves a ticket in Asana Service Management “consumes an AI Resolution rather than an AI Request”.[1] The Help Center calls the AI Request “a single, successful unit of work completed by Asana”. Completed tasks, follow-up questions, revisions, and comments that an AI Teammate decides are meant for it all count. Casual chat, adding context mid-task, cancellations and many simple Dash actions do not.[2] Meetings consumes AI Requests when a user records and transcribes a meeting and generates a summary.[1]

AI Studio Credit

“AI Studio Credit consumption is calculated by the volume of data, including query, input, and output data, processed through the large language model selected by the End User for a Smart Workflow.”[1] The Help Center gives the formula. The model’s total tokens are divided by 100 and rounded up to give the content size, and “The total number of credits consumed by a workflow is calculated by multiplying the content size by the model multiplier.”[3] Multipliers differ for input and output. On the retrieval date they ranged from 0.5 input and 5 output for GPT-5 mini to 8 input and 40 output for Claude Opus 4.6. Web search and web links consume additional credits.[3] See AI Studio Credit.

AI Resolution

An AI Resolution is consumed “when AI resolves a ticket and the submitter either indicates that the ticket is resolved or does not interact with the ticket for five (5) days”. AI Resolutions are bought separately as an option of the Asana Service Management Enterprise Add-On.[1]

Counting / floors

Pooling

“AI Requests will be aggregated and can be consumed by any End User during the Subscription Term.”[1] The pool size is based on user count, but individual users have no cap: “Any team member can use as many requests from the shared pool as needed, as long as the organization’s aggregate balance has not been exhausted.”[2] AI Studio Credits are pooled per billing account in the same way.[1] With AI Studio Pro, admins use a builder list to choose which members may consume credits.[3] Catalog proof: AI Requests are pooled and expire at the end of the term.

Included, prepaid and on-demand pools

Each metric has up to three pools: included usage, prepaid usage and on demand usage. “These pools are drawn in order: prepaid usage is only consumed once included usage is exhausted, and on demand usage is only consumed once both are exhausted.”[5] Prepaid AI request usage packs cost USD 0.50 per request, billed upfront. On-demand requests cost USD 0.60, “billed monthly in arrears”.[4] On-demand use must be switched on by an admin, can be capped, and “will never turn on without prior customer action”.[2] See Included, prepaid and on-demand usage pools. Catalog proof: Usage pools are drawn in a fixed order.

Refresh and expiry

Included AI Requests refresh monthly: “Unused included requests expire at the end of the month and do not roll over.”[2] For annual customers, prepaid packs “can be used anytime across your contract term with no monthly resets”. For monthly customers, packs expire at the end of the month.[4] At the end of the Subscription Term, unused requests and credits are lost: “Expired AI Requests are forfeited, with no refunds or credits and cannot be carried over from one Subscription Term to the next. AI Requests are non-transferable.”[1] The same wording applies to AI Studio Credits and AI Resolutions.[1] Catalog proof: Included AI Requests: 5 per user per month, capped per account.

Exhaustion

If AI Requests run out and no more have been bought, on-demand charges are not authorised, or the on-demand limit is reached, “features requiring AI Requests will not be available until additional AI Requests are purchased or Customer authorizes on-demand charges”.[1] For AI Studio, Smart Workflows “will cease to run”. Admins get alerts at 80% and 100% of the credit limit.[1][3] For AI Requests, alerts are sent at 65%, 85% and 100% of the monthly allotment.[2]

Responsibility for consumption

“Customer is solely responsible for consumption of AI Studio Credits. Any estimate provided regarding consumption of AI Studio Credits is for informational purposes only and it is not a representation or guarantee.”[1] When a subscription changes mid-term, prorated credits or debits are based on usage data “that may be subject to reporting delays”, and the final balance is the one on the invoice.[1] The Subscriber Terms also prohibit using “the Services or Asana AI in a manner that is excessive, abusive, or inconsistent with normal and intended use”.[7] Catalog proof: AI Studio Credits are measured by LLM data volume; Excessive or abusive use of the Services or Asana AI is prohibited.

AI Studio bought before 2026-09-16

AI Studio Pro packages bought before 2026-09-16 “include 5 million credits that reset quarterly”. Pro and Basic credits sit in separate pools, and on-demand purchasing is not available for them.[3]

Virtualization & partitioning

Not applicable. The units measure AI work and data volume, not infrastructure.[1]

Cloud / BYOL

AI Studio lets workflow builders choose among models from Asana’s AI partners, and credit consumption depends on that choice.[3] There is no option to bring one’s own model licence or API key in the documents retrieved.

Programs

Usage reporting supports internal chargeback. The AI Studio usage tab shows credits used per rule and per builder, with CSV export. The AI Teammates usage page shows requests per member and per AI Teammate.[3][6] Asana Gov customers have no on-demand billing. Excess Gov AI Requests may be counted and invoiced.[1]
