Postman licensing is the set of terms under which Postman, Inc. provides the Postman API platform, a cloud service with desktop and web clients for designing, testing, documenting, monitoring and publishing APIs. Every plan, including the free one, is a subscription governed by the Postman Terms of Service, which state that the Services “are licensed to Customer using a subscription model, not sold”.[1] The Terms incorporate the Postman Product Terms, which add conditions for individual features and override the Terms of Service where they conflict.[1][2] Catalog proof: Services are licensed on a subscription model, not sold.
The licence is a right to use, not a perpetual entitlement. Postman grants “a revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, limited right to use the Services” for the Subscription Term, conditional on compliance with Usage Limits and on-time payment.[1] Downloadable software such as the desktop app or the Postman Enterprise app is covered by the same grant and must be deleted within 30 days after the term ends.[1] Catalog proof: Right to use ends with the Subscription Term; Delete downloaded Software within 30 days after the term.
Postman sells two ways. A Self-Serve purchase is made online on the pricing page without a sales representative; a Sales-Assisted purchase is one in which a Postman representative “directly supports or facilitates” it, usually through an Order Form.[1] Many clauses differ between the two, and between Monthly and Annual Plans. Plans can also be bought through Resellers and on AWS Marketplace.[1][9]
Editions
Postman changed its plan line-up in March 2026. Before that it sold Free, Basic, Professional and Enterprise plans. It now sells Free, Solo, Team and Enterprise; Team replaced Basic, and Solo is a new single-user paid plan.[5] Customers on a legacy plan keep it until renewal, and only Professional plans can renew on their existing plan.[5] Catalog proof: Legacy plans continue until renewal; only Professional renews as is.
| Plan | Users | List price (pricing page) | Catalog row |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 1 | $0 | Postman Free plan |
| Solo | 1 | $9 per month billed annually; $12 billed monthly | Postman Solo plan |
| Team | Unlimited, per user | $19 per user per month billed annually; $23 billed monthly | Postman Team plan |
| Enterprise | Unlimited, per user | Contact sales | Postman Enterprise plan |
Prices and allowances are from the pricing page, which carries no date.[4] Postman describes itself as “priced per user, per month, with discounts for annual billing”, with Free and Solo as single-player plans, Team for collaboration and Enterprise for governance and control.[4] Enterprise adds Organizations, advanced role-based access control, SCIM, domain capture, the Private API Network, Partner Workspaces, audit logs and the Enterprise desktop app.[11]
Three add-ons are sold on top of plans. Simple Security adds single sign-on to Team at $6 per user per month; Advanced Security Administration and Premium Support are Enterprise-only and priced through sales.[4] Each is an organisation-level add-on that must cover all licensed users.[2] Plans, seats and add-ons are covered in Postman plans, seats and add-ons.
Metrics
Postman uses two kinds of metric: seats and metered resources.
| Unit | Catalog row | How it is counted |
|---|---|---|
| User | User | Each person with a User Account in the Organization Account who uses the Services |
| Consumed Seat | Consumed Seat | Users and seat-based add-ons enabled in the account, for Auto-Flex |
| AI credit | AI credit | Per user per month; pooled on Enterprise |
| Monitoring request | Monitoring request | Per team per month |
| Flows credit | Flows credit | Per user (Free, Solo) or per team (Team, Enterprise) per month |
| VU hour | Virtual user hour | Virtual users times hours, cloud performance tests |
| Insights unit | Insights unit | Enterprise, per user per month |
| Postman API call | Postman API call | Monthly allowance per plan |
| Context Graph API query | Context Graph API query | Monthly allowance, then per query |
The Terms define an Authorized User of an entity customer as an employee or contractor “who has access to the Services using a unique username and password under Customer’s Organization Account”.[1] The Terms list the kinds of Usage Limits: numbers and role types of Users, storage, runs, monitoring requests, workspaces, integrations, calls to the Postman API and credits.[1] The documentation lists monthly resources such as calls to the Postman API, requests made by monitors and scheduled collection runs, and Cloud Agent requests, which reset each month.[7] The metered resources and their pay-as-you-go rates are covered in Postman usage limits and usage-based billing.
Counting / floors
Seats (Terms of Service 2026-06-08). “A Fee is charged for each Postman User”, and Users added mid-term are billed at the current price and co-terminate with the Order.[1] Not every member costs a seat. According to the roles documentation, members with a Developer or Super Admin role consume a paid seat, while members holding only Admin or Billing roles are support users who do not; each team can have two.[6] External Partners in Partner Workspaces have been free since the March 2026 plans.[5] Catalog proof: A Fee is charged for each User; added Users co-terminate; Developer and Super Admin roles consume paid seats; two free support users; Partners do not consume paid seats on March 2026 plans.
Per-user restrictions. One login belongs to one person, who may be logged in on at most three computer systems at a time. Credential sharing, time-sharing and any arrangement that defeats the controls enforcing Usage Limits are prohibited, and accounts must be created by humans rather than bots or AI agents.[1] Catalog proof: One person per login, at most three computers at a time; Accounts must be created by humans, not bots or AI agents.
Floors. The Free plan has been limited to one user since March 2026 and cannot create a team.[5] Purchases on AWS Marketplace need at least 10 seats for Team and 20 for Enterprise.[9] Catalog proof: Free plan is limited to one user; AWS Marketplace minimum seat quantities.
Overages. Usage above the Order, including more Users, is an Overage that “may be charged additional Fees”. User and seat-based add-on Overages go through the Auto-Flex Policy; metered Features are billed pay-as-you-go.[1] Catalog proof: Usage above the Order is an Overage that may be charged.
Virtualization & partitioning
Postman licenses people and consumption, not machines, cores or hosts. The Terms contain no processor, core or partitioning rule of the kind described in virtualization and partitioning. The only device-related limit is the three-computer cap on simultaneous logins per User.[1] The Insights Agent, which customers deploy in their own environments, is expressly Software under the Terms of Service.[2]
Cloud / BYOL
Postman is primarily a hosted service, so bring-your-own-licence does not arise. The primary data center is in the United States; Enterprise customers may elect, by mutual written agreement, to host in the EU regional data center, although account credentials stay in the US.[2] Team and Enterprise plans can be bought through AWS Marketplace for one, two or three years, and seats added after the initial purchase are billed monthly.[9] Catalog proof: AWS Marketplace purchase.
Programs
- Auto-Flex Program. A built-in seat true-up. Admins can add Users or seat-based add-on users beyond the purchased quantity, and Postman bills the added Consumed Seats in arrears per Auto-Flex Period at list price.[3]
- Usage-Based Billing. Pay-as-you-go billing for consumption above the monthly allowance, on paid plans only.[1]
- Trial Offerings and Postman Sandbox. Complimentary and non-production access, provided as is with liability capped at US$100.[2]
- Purchase through a Reseller. The Terms of Service apply whichever channel is used.[1]
- Legacy plans. Basic, Professional and pre-2026 Enterprise plans, kept until renewal.[5]
- Enterprise support. Enterprise Plans carry a 99.9% monthly uptime commitment under the Enterprise Support and Service Level Policy.[10] Catalog proof: Enterprise uptime commitment of 99.9% per month.
Auto-Flex, renewals, price increases and cancellation are covered in Postman Auto-Flex, renewals and Terms of Service.
Audits and compliance
The Terms of Service contain no on-site audit clause. For downloadable Software, the customer must, on Postman’s written request, “confirm in writing whether its use, hosting, and maintenance of the Software is in compliance” with the Terms and Usage Limits, including the number of copies or systems.[1] Most compliance is enforced in the platform itself. The billing dashboard shows Auto-Flex usage, metered Features pause or bill when their limit is reached, and billing errors must be raised within 10 days.[1][8] For organisations the more common compliance issue is unmanaged personal or free accounts. Enterprise’s account discovery and control and domain capture features exist to bring those into the corporate organisation.[11] Catalog proof: Written confirmation of compliance on request; Billing errors must be raised within 10 days. For the general discipline see software license audit and true-up.
Out of scope
- Negotiated Order Forms, Enterprise Master Services Agreements and Reseller pricing, which are not public.
- Fern, Orbit, Passport and Astropods (Astro AI), which have their own terms of service on the Postman legal hub.
- Open-source components made available within the Services, whose use is governed by the applicable open-source licence instead of the Terms of Service.[1]
- Postman Academy and training services, which have separate terms.
