ClickUp Brain AI is ClickUp’s family of AI features: the Brain assistant, Super Agents, Autopilot Agents, AI Fields, AI Notetaker, Talk to Text and related functions. Licensing has three layers. Plans carry a trial allowance. Add-ons priced per Workspace member unlock fair-use access. A credit meter, AI Credits, limits the automatic features that act without a prompt.[2][4] The Terms of Service treat add-ons and overages as part of the fees payable.[12]
Editions
Brain AI is “activated in all Workspaces on a trial basis”. After the trial, “Brain AI add-ons can be purchased to activate different AI features in your Workspace.”[3] The Help Center names these add-ons:

The Brain AI add-on gives “unlimited fair use of Brain with standard AI models”, Project Summaries and Updates, AI Writing, Web Search and Research and the Brain MAX apps, with premium model usage shared across the Workspace.[2] It includes 1,500 AI Credits per user per month for Super Agents, AI Fields, AI Assign and Prioritize, AI Cards, Ambient Answers, Autopilot Agents and image generation, and 25,000 words of Talk to Text shared across the Workspace. It does not include AI Notetaker, AI Time-Blocking or a 1:1 onboarding session.[2]
The Everything AI add-on makes AI Fields, AI Assign and Prioritize, AI Cards, Ambient Answers, Autopilot Agents, image generation, AI Notetaker and AI Time-Blocking fair-use unlimited, includes 5,000 AI Credits per user per month for Super Agents, MCP Server rate limits aligned with the public API limits, and two hours of 1:1 live onboarding.[2] The pricing page flags that unlimited image generation is “subject to our fair use policy”.[1] A Free Forever Workspace cannot buy an AI add-on: “Free Forever Workspaces must upgrade to a paid plan to purchase an AI add-on.”[5] See Free Forever Workspaces cannot buy AI add-ons.

Brain AI add-on seat
“The Brain AI add-on is purchased per Workspace member per month and automatically renews.” The same sentence appears for the Everything AI and AI Talk to Text add-ons.[2] Brain AI “is purchased per Workspace” and “The fee applies to all members of your Workspace”, so a customer with several Workspaces buys the add-on for each one and cannot license only the people who use it.[3] The credits can be used by anyone who has access to Brain AI in the Workspace. If a member was removed during the cycle, the add-on is also charged for that open seat “since a new member can fill the seat.”[3] See AI add-ons are bought per Workspace for all members, AI add-ons are priced per member per month and Buying Brain AI charges open seats.
AI Credit
“AI Credits are applied toward the use of premium AI features for your entire Workspace. They automatically renew and do not roll over into the next month.”[4] AI Credits are currently USD 0.001 each and can be bought monthly in USD 10 increments, which is 10,000 credits per pack.[4] Brain itself does not consume AI Credits; automatic features such as Super Agents, Autopilot Agents, AI Fields and AI Cards do.[5] Estimated consumption per use is:

“Every Super Agent run consumes AI Credits”, including runs that only return an answer, and runs with more actions use more credits.[4] See AI Credits are $0.001 each in $10 monthly packs and Credit allowances per user differ by AI add-on.
AI Notetaker hour
The AI Notetaker add-on “includes 20 free hours. To add more, purchase a monthly block of hours.”[2] For a limited time, admins can try it free: “Workspaces have 5 hours of free AI Notetaker usage per admin”, shared between admins and not reset, and the owner counts as an admin.[7] Only members, admins and owners can use AI Notetaker; guests and limited members cannot.[7] See AI Notetaker add-on includes 20 hours and sells blocks of 60.
Counting / floors
Trial allowances
ClickUp measures the trial in three ways, and none of them resets.[5]
- Brain uses per Workspace. Free Forever 25 uses (up to 10 people) or 50 (more than 10); Unlimited and Business 50 or 75; Business Plus and Enterprise 100 or 175.
- AI Credits. 500 in total for a Free Forever Workspace; 1,000 per user on paid plans with no AI add-on. “Once trial credits are consumed, automatic AI features pause until you purchase an AI add-on or credit pack.”
- Talk to Text words. 2,000 per Free Forever Workspace and 10,000 on paid plans; 25,000 words with the Brain add-on and unlimited with Everything AI.

Premium model usage
Every plan includes premium and standard model usage shared across the Workspace, with separate daily, weekly and monthly limits that reset automatically. “When your Workspace uses all of its premium model usage, Brain switches to a standard model”, and no additional charge applies.[5][6] If usage is unusually high and reaches the plan’s fair-use threshold, standard models can be paused temporarily until the limit resets.[5] See Premium model usage falls back to standard models.
Running out of credits
Admins are notified by banner and in the Agents and Automations menus at 80%, 90% and 100% of AI usage. “At just over 100% of usage, you won’t be able to access features that use AI Credits until they renew the following month.”[6] The Workspace can buy more credits in USD 10 steps (suggested amounts USD 10, 20 and 30) or switch on overage protection, whose toggle “sets a Max monthly top-up of $10”; if overage protection is triggered the credit pack size is upgraded at the next renewal.[6] See Credit-consuming features stop when credits run out and Overage protection.
Virtualization & partitioning
Not applicable. The partition is the Workspace: AI credits, premium model usage and add-ons all apply per Workspace, and a customer with several Workspaces must buy and meter each separately.[3] Super Agent permissions limit who can create or trigger them: free and low-privilege roles cannot, and members, admins and owners can.[5]
Cloud / BYOL
ClickUp AI “incorporates AI models from third party providers”, and ClickUp “may, in its sole discretion, add, remove, limit, or otherwise modify the third party providers” at any time. Customers must use ClickUp AI in compliance with the policies of those providers.[8] There is no bring-your-own-model or bring-your-own-key option in the cited documents. ClickUp’s own MCP server is available on all plans for connecting external assistants. Without the Everything AI add-on its calls are limited per rolling 24 hours to 100 (Free Forever), 300 (Unlimited), 1,000 (Business), 2,500 (Business Plus) and 5,000 (Enterprise) per Workspace, and with the add-on the per-minute API limits apply instead.[9] See MCP calls are capped per rolling 24 hours without Everything AI.
Programs
- Super Fair Billing. ClickUp says it subsidises sudden AI cost increases from model providers, passes optimisation savings to customers, gives a grace period if credits are exceeded and uses “cost-plus pricing”. It may adjust pricing gradually “with plenty of notice”.[4] See Super Fair Billing policy.
- Cancellation. Owners and admins can cancel auto-renewal of an AI add-on while keeping paid plan features until the end of the cycle; add-on charges are prorated to the time left in the billing cycle.[3]
- AI Notetaker free trial for admins. See AI Notetaker free trial for admins.
- ClickUp Assist. A services add-on with two hours per month of 1:1 expert sessions and one hour per quarter for a business review; unused services do not roll over.[11][3] See ClickUp Assist.
Audits and compliance
The AI Additional Terms set the rules that matter for a compliance review. Input and output are the customer’s Customer Data: “When using ClickUp AI, Input and Output are your Customer Data for purposes of the Agreement.” The customer is solely responsible for ensuring its input and output do not violate law or third-party rights. ClickUp AI cannot be used to develop competing data sets or models, to mislead people about whether output is human-written, or to reverse engineer the models.[8] Healthcare use is excluded unless there is an active Business Associate Agreement and ClickUp has confirmed that the account is set up for healthcare AI use.[8] ClickUp’s liability for ClickUp AI is capped at USD 100 in the AI Additional Terms. A Workspace can see its own AI use: the Analytics page shows AI Credit consumption by feature, individual Super Agent runs and premium model meters, and admins and members can open it while guests and limited members cannot.[6] The usage dashboard’s “Human Cost Savings” figure uses a default hourly rate of USD 50 and editable time benchmarks, and the help article says editing a benchmark does not change how many credits an action uses.[6]
Out of scope
This article does not cover ClickUp’s AI data handling beyond the licence terms, the Zero Data Retention and BAA arrangements, third-party model providers’ own licences, or the Brain MAX desktop, mobile and Chrome extension apps beyond their access by role. Super Agents are described by ClickUp as different from Autopilot Agents, which “perform actions based on defined triggers and conditions”; both draw on AI Credits.[10] The Help Center warns that “Some Workspaces see a new set of plans that include more ClickUp AI”, so the AI inclusions of a given Workspace may differ from those described here.[3]
