- FortiGate-VM BYOL models are sold by vCPU band: FG-VM01/01v/01s (1 vCPU), FG-VM02 (2), FG-VM04 (4), FG-VM08 (8), FG-VM16 (16), FG-VM32 (32) and FG-VMUL (unlimited). The AWS administration guide states that "Licenses are based on the number of CPUs only." The data sheet describes each S-series SKU as a "Subscriptions license for FortiGate-VM" with the stated number of vCPU cores.
- Counting rules
- The licence sets the maximum number of vCPUs FortiOS uses for traffic and management; a VM with more vCPUs than licensed keeps working but the extra vCPUs are unused. Normal series (perpetual VM base with separately contracted support), v-series (perpetual base in a single annually contracted SKU with FortiCare bundle) and s-series (annual subscription with service bundle) share the same vCPU bands. On public clouds and for the S-series there is no RAM restriction.
