thinkcell packages, pricing and ordering

This article covers the thinkcell packages (Essentials, Suite, AI Suite, AI Suite Plus), the published volume price table and the ways licences are ordered, added, renewed and obtained free of charge. Contract terms are in thinkcell Software License Agreement.

On This Page

thinkcell’s packages, prices and ordering routes decide what a thinkcell licence costs and how its quantity changes during the year. Every package is sold per user, priced per month and billed annually.[1] Each order is fulfilled with a license key that expires on a fixed date, and the SLA requires payment in advance for the whole Term.[9] The vendor calls the result “essentially an annual leasing agreement”. For that reason it gives no special discounts to recurring customers.[1]

Editions

The pricing page describes four packages, each including everything in the one before it.[1]

  • thinkcell Essentials is “for users who want to save time producing top-notch, professional slides”. It includes team slides, templates, the image library, and tools for alignment, sizing and scaling. It has no charting.[1]
  • thinkcell Suite is for “professional users who build data-driven presentations”. It adds 40+ chart types including waterfalls, Gantts and Mekkos, Excel integration for data links and chart creation, and auto-updating annotations.[1]
  • thinkcell AI Suite adds all AI features. These include building and editing slides through AI chat, AI analysis of Excel data, AI translation, and “Advanced automation for 20 template updates a month”.[1]
  • thinkcell AI Suite Plus adds “5x tokens for complex AI tasks”.[1]

A footnote on the pricing page says AI usage limits “apply independent of number of users”. Customers are notified at 80% of their volume.[1] A customer may start with AI Suite and upgrade to AI Suite Plus at any time.[1] The Trust Center FAQ describes thinkcell Assist as a commercial add-on to the Suite licence that “cannot be purchased yet by itself”.[12] The AI packages on the current pricing page are how that add-on is now sold. See thinkcell AI Service Agreement and Assist.

Metrics

All four packages use the User metric of the SLA: individuals granted access during the Term, with a 5% tolerance.[9] The AI packages also carry the User (AI service) count and a template update allowance for report automation.[1]

Volume price table

The pricing page reads its prices from a public table. The table gives a per-user monthly price for every quantity from 1 to 50 users. Its last row, “50+ users”, has no price.[2] The currency depends on the buyer, and the copy retrieved for this article was in EUR. Selected steps:[2]

Users Essentials Suite AI Suite AI Suite Plus
1 to 4 7.90 23.90 38.90 83.90
5 7.11 21.70 36.70 81.70
10 6.77 20.70 35.70 80.70
20 6.35 19.30 34.30 79.30
25 6.20 18.90 33.90 78.90
50 5.74 17.60 32.60 77.60
50+ quote quote quote quote

The prices are in EUR per user per month, billed annually. At every step in the table, AI Suite costs exactly EUR 15.00 more than Suite and AI Suite Plus EUR 60.00 more.[2] The pricing page sends buyers of larger teams to sales.[1] There is no minimum order quantity. Billing within the Term

The SLA sets three billing rules:[9]

  • Fees are due within ten days and paid in advance for the whole Term.
  • A Term that starts mid-month is billed with a half-month rule: half the first month if it starts on days 1 to 15, nothing for the first month if it starts later.
  • The same half-month rule applies to Additional Orders and Overusage Fees.

Catalog: Pro-rata rule for the first calendar month; Fees payable in advance within ten days.

Virtualization & partitioning

Packages carry no server, core or virtualization options. Server-based use is licensed per individual user, like any other use.[1] See thinkcell license keys, deployment and compliance.

Cloud / BYOL

Not applicable. thinkcell sells no hosted edition of the add-in and no cloud marketplace offers were identified on think-cell.com. The AI service in the AI packages is hosted by thinkcell under a separate agreement.[12]

Programs

Adding users (co-terming)

thinkcell usually recommends adding users to the existing license key rather than buying a new key. All users then share “a single license key for all users that expires on a common date”. The vendor notes that this “is sometimes called co-terming”.[3] The fee for the extra users is pro-rated to the key’s remaining validity. For online orders the customer portal calculates it; customers who bought through a reseller should go back to the same reseller.[3] Only the initial purchaser of a key can add users to it. Anyone else who cannot reach that person has to open a new, independent account.[1] In SLA terms, such a purchase is an “Additional Order” that extends the License Scope. Placing one in time avoids an Overusage Fee.[9] Catalog: Add users to an existing license key (co-terming); Added users are pro-rated to the key's remaining validity.

Renewal

A renewal is a new license key that replaces the old one, ordered “just like your first order”. Customers renew online in the portal, where the old key helps but is not required, or through a reseller with the old key.[4] The deployment guide says to order and deploy the new key more than 14 days before expiry, to avoid expiry warnings. A new key is valid immediately.[10] Catalog: Renewal (replacement license key).

Resellers and offline orders

The vendor directs these organizations to a reseller in their country:[5]

  • organizations that do not allow online ordering;
  • organizations with special needs for vendor registration, legal terms or taxation.

The vendor’s ordering terms are:[1]

  • payment terms are 10 days net;
  • the software is delivered by e-mail with a download link and the license key;
  • thinkcell issues no pro-forma invoices.

Resellers may add any markup to the online fee. thinkcell recommends at most 5%, “because this is the handling fee we charge to customers that approach us with an offline order”.[1] Catalog: Reseller ordering; Reseller markup and offline handling fee.

Startup program

Startups can save “90% in the first year and 50% in your second year”.[6] To qualify, a company must:[6]

  • be less than 8 years old;
  • have fewer than 500 full-time employees;
  • have an English-language website;
  • not be a current or recent customer;
  • not be a consultancy.

Admission is at thinkcell’s discretion. Applicants working with a recognized accelerator, incubator or VC fund are verified immediately.[6] Catalog: Startup program; Startup program eligibility.

Academic and nonprofit licences

There are two free routes.

Individual academic licences. Enrolled students, teaching staff and staff at accredited higher education institutions get free keys valid for 12 months, or until graduation for students. The keys can be renewed while the person remains eligible. They do not renew automatically, and no payment details are collected.[7] Use must be “exclusively for educational and non-commercial purposes”. The licences give the same functionality and updates as paid ones.[7] The commercial SLA adds two limits. An Academic License may not be used by third parties, and it ends six months after the licensee’s studies end.[9] Catalog: Academic program (students, professors and staff); Academic licences: no commercial or third-party use.

Institutional academic/nonprofit licences. Two kinds of organization can sign the Software License Agreement for Academic/Nonprofit Use:[8]

  • degree-granting accredited colleges and universities, with their affiliated graduate schools and non-commercial research institutions;
  • recognized nonprofit organizations.

The licence is free but limited to education, public research or direct nonprofit core operations. Administrative work, for example at university hospitals, is excluded.[1] A senior person who can bind the institution must sign the agreement. The institution must also link to thinkcell’s website before a key is issued.[1] It must credit the software in publications it materially contributed to, and it may grant use to its employees, academic staff and students for its own purposes.[8] Catalog: Academic/Nonprofit institutional licence; Institutional academic/nonprofit licence: purpose, link and acknowledgement.

Trials and Early Access

A Trial License is royalty-free and ends automatically after 30 days.[9] Licensed users can choose thinkcell Early Access for frequent feature updates, or stay on stable releases. The release notes named thinkcell 14 as the latest stable version.[11] Early Access is an update channel, not a separate licence. Catalog: Free trial (Trial License); thinkcell Early Access.
