RingEX is the RingCentral service that combines a cloud phone system, team messaging, video meetings and fax. The RingEX Service Attachment describes it as a cloud-based unified communications service with voice, fax, call handling, mobile apps and bring-your-own-device capability, accessed through IP desk phones, desktop clients, web clients, mobile applications and software integrations.[1] It is sold in tiers described on the public pricing page, and the same attachment also covers the partner-branded Avaya Cloud Office, Rainbow Office and Unify Office services.[1] For a software asset manager, the questions are how many paid users and Digital Lines exist, which free extensions are quietly being charged, and whether pooled allowances are being exceeded.
Editions
The Service Attachment names three tiers, Core, Advanced and Ultra, with a link to the plans page for details.[1] On 2026-10-07 the plans page showed Core and Advanced as priced cards and presented the content that the attachment attributes to Ultra (10,000 toll-free minutes, 200 SMS per user and unlimited storage) as AI Customer Engagement Bundles with no public price, although a footnote still refers to “RingEX Ultra”.[2] See RingEX Ultra and AI Customer Engagement Bundles.
| Tier | Public price signal | Included on the plans page | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | USD 20 per user per month with annual payment (USD 30 beside it) | Unlimited domestic calling, on-demand call recording, 100 toll-free minutes, 25 SMS per user per month, HD meetings of 300 participants | [2] |
| Advanced | USD 25 per user per month with annual payment (USD 35 beside it) | Everything in Core plus CRM integrations, multiple sites, core reporting, 1,000 toll-free minutes, 100 SMS per user | [2] |
| Ultra, as AI Customer Engagement Bundle | Contact sales | Everything in Advanced plus 10,000 toll-free minutes, 200 SMS per user, Webinar, insights and unlimited storage; Boosters included | [2] |
The page shows two figures for each tier. Because the page advertises savings of up to 33% for paying annually and 20 is two thirds of 30, the catalog records the lower figure as the annual-payment price.[2] The older comparison matrix datasheet lists meeting participants of 100, 100 and 200 for Core, Advanced and Ultra, which differs from the 300-participant figure on the plans page; the datasheet is undated, so the plans page should be treated as current.[5] Business Analytics Pro comes standard with Ultra and is a paid add-on to other tiers, priced by account size.[11] See Business Analytics Pro is included in Ultra and a paid add-on otherwise.

Licensed users and Digital Lines
The support documentation states that users with a RingEX licence have full access to chat, video and phone capabilities, and that the user types available depend on the plan.[3] The contract unit for voice is the Digital Line, defined as a phone number assigned to an End User or a designated location such as a conference room, with the associated voice service for inbound and outbound calling.[4] Recurring charges for Digital Lines and product licences stay in effect for the Initial Term or current Renewal Term once incurred.[4] See RingEX user licence, Digital Line and A Digital Line is a number plus voice service.
The developer guide shows how extension types map to licences in the API. A User is a primary extension, a FaxUser can only be used for faxes, a VirtualUser for calls and faxes only, and a DigitalUser for calls, faxes and desk phones. Specialised extensions such as Department, Announcement, IVR menu, Shared Lines Group and Paging Only Group exist for call handling, and the types available depend on the service plan.[6] Administrators reconciling the API extension list to invoices should expect call queues and auto-attendants to be configuration objects rather than licensed users, although the documents do not state a charge rule for them, so the Order Form should be checked. See DigitalUser extensions carry desk phones; VirtualUser extensions do not.
Free user types
RingEX distinguishes four user types in the Admin Portal. RingEX users carry a licence. Video Pro users are free, have no licence and have chat and limited video but cannot make or receive direct calls. Video Pro+ users have a meeting licence with chat and video but no direct calls. Mobile users are free, with chat and video but no direct calls.[3]
Free users can only receive calls through the company Auto-receptionist and make calls using RingOut. If they make or receive more than 10 calls in a billing cycle, the account is charged the cost of an additional user that month.[3] The plans page adds that a Mobile User extension used for calls in a month is charged that month at the same rate as a Digital Line.[2] The two statements differ in their threshold, so call detail records for free extensions should be reviewed against both. See Free user extension (Video Pro and Mobile), Free user extensions are charged after 10 calls in a cycle and A Mobile User extension used for calls is charged at the Digital Line rate.
Pooled minutes, SMS and Calling Credits
Each plan includes toll-free minutes pooled at account level: 100 for Core, 1,000 for Advanced and 10,000 for Ultra, with overage of 3.9 cents per minute.[1] Business SMS is allotted per user and pooled across the account at 25, 100 and 200 messages per user per month, with overage at then-applicable rates.[1] Numbers must be registered with the SMS registrar before use, and unregistered SMS is excluded from the monthly allotment and from purchased SMS bundles.[1] International calls are charged against Calling Credits purchased in bundles, or as overage after the credits run out; Auto-Purchase can top up credits automatically.[1] See Toll-free minutes (pooled per account), Business SMS allotment (pooled), Calling Credits and Calling Credit Auto-Purchase.
Minute and credit bundles expire at the end of the month and cannot roll over. Auto-Purchased credits expire 12 months after purchase, and bundles may not be sold, transferred, assigned or applied to another customer.[1] Calls between extensions on the same account never incur a usage fee, unless forwarded to a number outside the account.[1] See Minute and credit bundles expire monthly and cannot be transferred and Extension-to-extension calls are unlimited within the account.
Counting and floors
The unlimited plans are intended for regular business use. The attachment states that “Unlimited” use does not permit anything otherwise prohibited by the Acceptable Use Policy, including trunking, access stimulation and reselling.[1] The plans page limits unlimited calling to the US and Canada.[2] The Acceptable Use Policy adds that RingEX is not for high-volume commercial messaging or call center calling, and bars auto-dialing, predictive dialing and trunking of RingCentral numbers to a PBX.[9] Organisations that run outbound campaigns on RingEX should therefore move the workload to a contact center product or buy High Volume SMS, which the plans page prices at USD 0.0119 per message sent or received.[2] See Unlimited plans exclude AUP-prohibited use and RingEX may not be used for auto-dialing or trunking.
The plans page lists extra numbers separately. Additional toll-free or local numbers are USD 4.99 per month, vanity numbers carry a USD 30 one-time fee, additional international toll-free numbers are USD 14.99 per user per month plus a USD 25 one-time fee, and additional international numbers start at USD 5.99 per user per month.[2] The free trial is limited to five users and two desktop phones, requires trial hardware to be returned within 21 days and excludes SMS.[2] See RingEX free trial and The free trial is limited to five users and two desk phones.
Global RingEX and BYOC
Global RingEX provides localised service in countries where it is available, but only in connection with services purchased in the Home Country. RingCentral may suspend or terminate it if the customer terminates Digital Lines in the Home Country, invoices are issued in the Home Country currency, and the billing address must be in the Home Country.[1] Emergency calling is available only within the country where the Digital Line is assigned.[1] Bring Your Own Carrier lets a multinational customer connect its own local carrier and gateway to the RingEX cloud PBX; RingCentral is not the voice provider in those locations and disclaims responsibility for the local carrier solution.[7] See Global RingEX, Global RingEX depends on Home Country service and Bring Your Own Carrier (BYOC).
Hardware and numbers
Desk phones can be bought or rented. Rental is available to customers whose RingEX services have a minimum Initial Term of at least 24 months, and RingCentral keeps title unless conveyed in writing after payment of the purchase price.[8] Either party can end the rental on 30 days notice, and devices not returned within 30 days of termination are charged.[8] See Phone Lease Program and Rental Agreement and Phone rental requires a 24-month minimum initial term.
Numbers are released when an account is terminated or an individual Digital Line is cancelled, unless they were ported to another provider first, so exit planning should include porting.[10] See Numbers may be released when an account or line is cancelled.
AI features
Personal AI Assistant features are available only with selected RingEX packages. RingCentral may limit AI Notes usage to 500 minutes per user per month and all AI features to 100 invocations per user per day.[11] AI Receptionist, Conversation Expert and the Boosters are covered in AI add-ons and bundles. See AI Assistant usage may be limited per user.
Out of scope
This article does not cover the partner-branded Avaya Cloud Office, Rainbow Office and Unify Office pricing, which the attachment links to on those partners’ sites,[1] nor taxes and regulatory fees, which the plans page says may apply on top of the listed prices.[2]
Compliance checklist
- List licensed RingEX users, Digital Lines and any Video Pro+ meeting licences, and compare them with invoiced quantities.
- Pull call detail for Video Pro and Mobile extensions and flag any that exceed 10 calls in a cycle.
- Compare monthly toll-free, SMS and Calling Credit consumption with the tier allotments.
- Confirm the Home Country Digital Lines that anchor any Global RingEX or BYOC deployment.
- Confirm rented devices, their return dates and the 24-month minimum term.
