Proton for Business is the set of plans for companies, nonprofits and other organizations. The pricing page presents a choice of plan by product (Workspace, Mail, Drive, Meet, VPN, Pass and Lumo AI) and offers a customizable Enterprise plan for large companies, the public sector and nonprofits through Proton’s sales team.[1] The Help Center describes the plans as priced per user.[2] In the Terms of Service the business plans are the plans on the business plans page and the Workspace plans, and a subscriber to them represents that it acts as a business.[7]

The yearly prices are shown as monthly equivalents: Workspace Standard is EUR 12.99 per user per month billed at EUR 155.88 every 12 months, and Workspace Premium EUR 19.99 billed at EUR 239.88.[1] Workspace Standard includes Mail, Drive, Docs and Sheets, Meet with up to 100 participants, VPN and Pass with team vaults; Premium adds 3 TB of storage per user, 20 domains, 250-participant meetings, Lumo, an email writing assistant and data retention policies.[1] The Help Center also lists a legacy Mail Professional plan that can still receive extra users and has 50 GB and 15 addresses per user.[6]
Metrics
The licensing unit is the user. Proton’s FAQ says users are accounts in the organization that are not administrators, who log in to their own accounts for Mail, Calendar, Drive, Pass and VPN and cannot view or manage details at the organization level; admins add or remove users and allocate storage and VPN connections from the admin panel.[1] The Help Center repeats that users can only view and manage their own account and cannot create additional addresses.[4] The catalog rows are User (Proton for Business), Storage, Email address and Custom email domain.
Per-user allowances depend on the plan. The add-ons article lists, per user, Mail Essentials 15 GB, 10 addresses and 1 VPN connection; Workspace Standard 1 TB, 20 addresses and 10 VPN connections; and Workspace Premium 3 TB, 20 addresses and 10 VPN connections. VPN connections are capped at 10 per user, cannot be redistributed between users and can only be switched fully on or off.[6] If an organization runs out of storage, the FAQ advises adding users and reallocating storage, upgrading, or asking Sales for custom storage on an Enterprise plan.[1]
Counting and floors
Number of users. All business plans allow as many users as the business needs; the number is chosen at sign-up and can be changed in the account at any time.[3] An organization can hold up to 5,000 users, and larger needs go to enterprise sales.[2] The plans have no stated minimum except VPN and Pass: VPN Essentials and VPN Professional show a minimum of 2 users, and Pass Essentials, Pass Professional and VPN and Pass Professional show a minimum of 3.[1]
Creating an organization. To create an organization with any Proton for Business plan, the customer must add at least one additional user, connect a custom domain and enable multi-user support. The organization name is visible to the people added, storage is first allocated to the administrator account and later divided among users, and once created an organization cannot be deleted.[2] A Visionary organization can include up to six users, including the owner.[2]
Adding and removing users. Users are added or removed under Customize plan with plus and minus buttons. A removal produces a prorated credit based on the time remaining on the original contract and the number of users removed, and an addition goes to checkout. Proration applies only when the change is made from the Primary Admin account; a change from another admin account is charged at the full price.[3] The add-ons article states the same condition and adds that, if another admin adds add-ons, the subscription renews completely.[6]
Roles. An organization has administrators and users. If there is more than one administrator, one is the primary administrator, usually the creator, who is responsible for billing and in whose account invoices appear. Plans such as Professional and Workspace bundles support admin roles with narrower access, while other plans use only administrator or user. An administrator can promote or demote others, and demoting the primary administrator makes the demoting administrator responsible for payments.[4]
Private users. Users are non-private by default, so any administrator can access their data. Administrators can make a user private but cannot reverse that without the user accepting an access request. Proton states that it cannot access the emails of any user in an organization, including non-private users.[5]
Virtualization and partitioning
The partition is the organization with its custom domains. Domains per plan are 3 for Mail Essentials (not expandable), 15 for Workspace Standard and 20 for Workspace Premium, and only Workspace plans can expand the domain allowance, prorated through Customize plan.[6] Dedicated VPN servers are a related unit: a dedicated server gives an organization a fixed, static IP reserved for its team, and VPN Professional plans must always keep at least one.[6] See Proton VPN, Pass, Drive and add-on licensing.
Cloud and entitlement mechanics
Business status. Business plans are for businesses, and by subscribing the customer agrees it is not acting as a consumer, so statutory consumer protections such as mandatory withdrawal rights do not apply to the extent the law allows. Reverse charge VAT and validation of VAT or GST numbers apply only to business plans.[7]
Trial and refund. The plans page offers a 14-day free trial of the business plans and a 30-day money-back guarantee.[1] Under the Terms, a business trial becomes a paid renewing subscription unless cancelled before the trial ends, each business user can cancel during a trial only once, and Proton may stop offering trials.[7]
Renewal and notice. Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price. For VPN Essentials, Business and Enterprise a termination notice must reach Proton at least 30 days before renewal, otherwise the plan renews for another term.[7] A plan cannot be changed while there is an unpaid invoice.[8]
Non-payment. If the account is downgraded to Free and exceeds Free limits, it enters a delinquent restricted state in which custom domains are disabled, sub-users are restricted and invited users are separated, and Proton may delete the account after 12 months.[7]
Payment. The business FAQ says Proton accepts credit and debit cards, PayPal, Bitcoin, cash and bank transfers.[1] The payment options article describes each method, including cash in US dollars, euros or Swiss francs.[9]
Programs
- Business free trial: 14 days as advertised, converting to paid.
- Nonprofit and journalist pricing: the plans page says special pricing is available for registered nonprofit organizations and journalists, with no published percentage.[1]
- Plan add-ons: extra users, extra domains, Scribe (a paid per-user add-on on business plans, included in Workspace Premium), Lumo Plus and Meet Professional.[6]
Out of scope
This article does not cover Enterprise pricing, which is quoted by Sales, the data processing agreement for organizations that act as data controllers, or SSO and SCIM configuration beyond the plan features listed. The Terms state that when Proton processes personal data on a customer’s behalf under the GDPR, its data processing agreement applies.[7] Personal and family plans are in Proton personal plans and bundles.
