1Password licensing is the set of terms under which AgileBits Inc., trading as 1Password, sells its password manager and access-management products. The published plans are recurring cloud subscriptions, billed in advance and renewed automatically unless cancelled.[1] Business customers contract under the Subscription Terms for Business Customers, which together with an Order Form make up the agreement between “AgileBits Inc. dba 1Password” and the customer.[1] Individual and Families subscribers accept a separate Terms of Use on the same page.[1] Publicly priced plans are Teams Starter Pack, Business, Individual and Families.[2][3] The enterprise products (Enterprise Password Manager, Device Trust, SaaS Manager, Privileged Access, and the Unified Access platform that combines them) are sold by quote.[4] Most plans are counted per person, so the general model in named user licensing applies, with variations described below.
Editions
1Password publishes four price points and lists the enterprise products separately.
| Plan or product | Unit | Public USD price (annual billing) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Teams Starter Pack | Pack of 10 members | USD 24.95 per month (USD 299.40 per year)[2] | Up to 10 additional seats at USD 4.99 per seat per month; 20 members in total[2] |
| Business | Per user | USD 8.99 per user per month (USD 107.88 per year)[2] | 20 guests included; free Families plan for every user[2] |
| Individual | Per account | USD 3.99 per month; first-year promotion USD 2.99[3] | One person |
| Families | Per family | USD 5.99 per month; first-year promotion USD 4.49[3] | Five family members and five guests[5] |
| Enterprise Password Manager, Device Trust, SaaS Manager, Privileged Access, Unified Access | Quote | “Request a quote”[4] | Can be bought as a platform or product by product[4] |
| Enterprise Password Manager - MSP Edition | Seat, in arrears | Not published | For managed service providers only; consumption-based, no licence minimums[17] |
Prices are also published in CAD and EUR. The Teams Starter Pack costs CAD 29.95 or EUR 21.95 per month on annual billing.[2] The currency follows the account’s region. Accounts on 1Password.com are billed in USD, on 1Password.ca in CAD, and on 1Password.eu in EUR. The region also decides where the data is hosted.[13] Catalog SKUs: Teams Starter Pack, Teams Starter Pack additional seat, 1Password Business, Enterprise Password Manager, Unified Access, 1Password Individual and 1Password Families.
The difference between the two small-business plans is functional as well as commercial. 1Password describes Teams Starter Pack as a flat monthly price that includes 10 members. Business is priced per user and adds identity-provider integrations, broader role-based vault permissions, Watchtower alerts, and more administration and reporting.[2] Plan detail is in 1Password Business and Teams Starter Pack licensing.
Metrics
| 1Password term | Catalog row | Where it applies |

| Members included in the pack | Teams Starter Pack member | Teams Starter Pack: 10 members, plus up to 10 additional seats.[2] |
| Guest | Guest | Limited accounts with access to one vault. Teams includes 5, Business includes 20, and more cost extra.[6] |
| Family member | Family member | Families: five included, with extra members prorated.[5] |

1Password publishes no licensing unit for Device Trust, Privileged Access or the Unified Access platform. The quote sets the quantity for these products.[4]
Counting / floors
Business: per Number of Users. For customers who buy through an Order Form, the Subscription Terms base fees on the Number of Users in that Order Form.[1] Self-service purchases on 1Password.com, .eu or .ca are charged when the transaction is made.[1] A self-managed Business subscription bills each team member and includes 20 guests. Each new team member, and each guest above 20, is charged a prorated amount when they accept the invitation.[5] Catalog: Business fees are based on the Number of Users on the Order Form; Business bills per team member, prorated, with 20 guests included.
Quarterly true-up and renewal at the high-water mark. Order Form customers may add Users at any time. 1Password reconciles the account every quarter and invoices additional Users from the date of a new Order Form. All renewals are invoiced at the number of Users in place at the end of the prior term.[1] Removing users before the term ends therefore matters for the renewal quantity, not for the current invoice. See true-up. Catalog: Additional Users on Order Forms are reconciled quarterly; Renewals are invoiced at the User count at the end of the prior term.
Removals and replacements. In team and business accounts, removing a team member or guest shows on the next monthly or annual invoice. A person removed in the current billing period can be replaced by someone of the same type without a billing change. Amounts already charged are not refunded.[5] Catalog: Removed team members drop off the next invoice; same-type replacement is free within the period.
Teams Starter Pack ceiling. The pack holds 10 members and up to 10 additional seats, 20 members in total.[2] A Business account with more than 10 users cannot switch to a team account.[16] Catalog: Teams Starter Pack covers 10 members and 5 guests, up to 20 members with added seats; Business cannot switch to a team account above 10 users.
Guests. A guest has no Employee vault and sees only one vault, chosen by an owner or administrator. Giving a guest more access means promoting them to a team member,[6] who then counts as a billable User. Catalog: A guest can access only one shared vault at a time.
Family accounts for business users. Every Business user gets a complimentary 1Password Families membership. It stays free while the family account is linked to the business account.[7] When a person leaves or is removed, their family account is unlinked and enters a complimentary trial period.[7] The business only learns the family account’s subscription status and cannot access or manage it.[7] Catalog: Free Families membership lasts only while linked to an active Business account.
Virtualization & partitioning
1Password is a hosted service. No 1Password document reviewed ties licensing to hosts, cores or virtual machines. The self-hosted components are licensed as integration technology for the subscribed service. These include the SCIM bridge for provisioning, the Device Trust agent and the Privileged Access Connector. They are covered in 1Password Unified Access, Device Trust and SaaS Manager licensing.
Cloud / BYOL
There is no bring-your-own-licence concept. A customer chooses one of three hosting regions when creating the account. Data stays in that region and is never moved automatically. Changing region means opening a new account and migrating the data.[13] 1Password Business can also be bought through “Buy with AWS” on AWS Marketplace.[2] Catalog: Buy with AWS; Account region fixes billing currency and data location.
Programs
- 14-day free trial. Business and Families trials allow any number of people. The first invoice counts the active users measured at 7:00 PM ET. Suspended people, deleted people and pending invitations are not charged.[5]
- Free Families membership for Business users, described above.[7]
- Nonprofit, journalist and volume pricing. 1Password offers discounts for eligible organizations and customized volume pricing, through sales.[2]
- Partner channels. Resellers hold a Resale License under the Partner Program Agreement. Managed service providers join the MSP Program and pay a monthly Net Seat Fee in arrears.[8] See 1Password MSP and partner licensing.
Unified Access and add-on products
1Password’s enterprise tab groups Enterprise Password Manager, Device Trust, SaaS Manager and Privileged Access into the Unified Access platform. The platform can be bought whole or product by product.[4] Device Trust, formerly Kolide, comes in two editions. Core enforces device checks in the browser. Connect adds enforcement in the identity provider’s sign-in flow.[14] Extended Device Compliance requires both Enterprise Password Manager and Device Trust.[12] Each product adds its own Product-Specific Terms. The Unified Access terms say they do not apply to Extended Access Management (XAM), which keeps separate terms.[11] SaaS Manager’s Managed Identity metric is defined in its own Product-Specific Terms.[10]
Contract and compliance
The Subscription Terms prohibit exceeding the Use Limit in the Order Form, making the Services available to anyone the Use Limit does not authorize, and selling, reselling, renting or leasing the Services.[1] They contain no customer audit clause. Compliance relies on the Order Form quantity, the quarterly reconciliation and the renewal count.[1] Payment obligations are non-cancelable and fees non-refundable, with listed exceptions.[1] For self-managed subscriptions, 1Password does not refund past charges or the time left after cancellation.[15] Contract detail is in 1Password Subscription Terms for Business Customers. For computing a position, see effective license position.
Out of scope
This article does not cover the 1Password Developer API and SDK terms, beta terms, the Data Processing Addendum, or the agreements of legacy Trelica customers who bought before the acquisition. Legacy standalone-vault versions of 1Password (1Password 7 and earlier) are also out of scope. Consumer app-store subscriptions through Apple or Google are managed by those stores and are not analysed here.
