Lansweeper deployment licensing covers how many copies of Lansweeper’s software a customer may run under one subscription, and where the license for them is held. The Terms of Use define a Lansweeper Deployment as a deployment of all necessary Lansweeper software in the customer’s systems to enable use of the Product.[1] A Site is a unique tenant in the multi-tenant Cloud Platform that collects Customer Content through the customer’s Lansweeper Deployment.[1] The number of Lansweeper Deployments is one of the license metrics an Order can state, alongside Assets and Help Desk Agents.[1] Version 2.2 of the Terms, dated 2026-09-25, uses “Lansweeper Deployment” where earlier versions said “Lansweeper Installation”. The pricing page still calls them installations.[2]

Lansweeper describes federation as reconciling asset, software and user information across multiple installations into a single view.[2]
Metrics
- Lansweeper Deployment. Counted per installation of the Lansweeper software. In Lansweeper Classic, one installation has one database and one on-premises web console, but it can have several scanning servers.[5] On the Platform, a Site can have more than one connected installation, such as several Network Discovery hubs.[10]
- Asset. The asset limit applies across the subscription. With a digital license, each installation’s licensed asset count rolls up into the Site.[4]
Counting / floors
One deployment by default (Terms of Use v2.2, dated 2026-09-25). The license grant allows one single Lansweeper Deployment unless the Paid Subscription allows more.[1] Where more are allowed, the customer must link all of them to one single Site.[1] Catalog proof: One Lansweeper Deployment unless the plan allows more; Multiple deployments must link to one Site.
Test installation. The grant also allows an additional deployment for testing and for evaluating new releases. Its maximum number of Assets is a percentage of the subscribed plan, published on the pricing page.[1] The pricing FAQ sets that percentage at 10% of the purchased asset limit.[2] For a Pro subscription of 5,000 assets, for example, a test installation may hold up to 500 assets. Catalog proof: Test installation limited to 10% of the asset limit.
Affiliates. Affiliates may use the Product on the same conditions and license metrics as the customer. Their use does not entitle them to a separate Lansweeper Deployment, and use beyond the agreed metrics has to be bought as an increase.[1] Catalog proof: Affiliates use the same metrics and get no separate deployment.
Why several installations. Lansweeper Classic documentation names network segmentation or DMZ environments, multiple geographic locations, VPN limitations and regulatory requirements, such as regional data laws, as reasons for multiple scanning servers or installations.[5] Additional scanning servers belong to one installation and database.[5] Separate isolated installations, for example for subsidiaries, are separate deployments.[5]
Installation and management types
Lansweeper distinguishes three installation types.[3]

The installer is the same for all three types. Installation types cannot be mixed in one cloud site: a Cloud-first site accepts only Cloud-first installations, and a Hybrid site accepts only Hybrid installations.[3] Changing the management type is described as difficult. Moving from On-premise to Cloud management means losing all collected data and configuration, because Lansweeper must be reinstalled in Cloud-first mode. The new cloud site is then connected to the existing license.[3] Moving the other way requires Lansweeper Sales to issue an on-premises license key.[3] Catalog proof: Installation types cannot be mixed in one Site.
Trials follow the same split. A Lansweeper Sites (Cloud-first) trial needs no license key. A Lansweeper Classic trial requires a trial key applied in the local web console.[8] Catalog proof: Classic trials need a license key; Cloud-first trials do not.
Digital and physical licenses in Lansweeper Classic
Lansweeper Classic uses either a digital or a physical license. A digital license has an order reference in GUID format. A physical license has a reference that starts with LAN.[4]
- Digital license. The Lansweeper Site manages the subscription. No key is pasted into Lansweeper Classic, and the license updates automatically on upgrade or renewal. The licensed asset count rolls up into the Site, and each installation gets its own digital license with its own order reference. The installation must sync with its Site at least once every 24 hours, or the digital license expires and the installation reverts to the Free license.[4] Catalog proof: Digital licenses must sync with the Site every 24 hours.
- Physical license. A license key is sent by email to the billing contact and applied under Configuration > Your Lansweeper License. The key is an encrypted string that contains the order reference, email address and other customer details. All plans use the same installer, so upgrading from freeware or trial mode needs no reinstall.[4] A renewed physical license needs a newly generated key, and the license period starts when that key is generated.[12]
The Terms define a License Key as a unique key-code for customers whose deployment type requires activation.[1] If full payment has not yet been received, Lansweeper may grant temporary access through a temporary License Key that lasts as long as the payment term.[1] On expiry or termination, the License Key is disabled.[1] Resellers receive a 30-day temporary key when they place a valid purchase order, and they deliver keys to the End-Customer.[13] Catalog proof: On expiry use ceases and the License Key is disabled.
Linking Lansweeper Classic to a Site
A Lansweeper Classic installation can be linked to a Lansweeper Platform site. Its scanned data then syncs through one designated sync server per installation.[6] One of the prerequisite checks confirms that the license is eligible for linking. Eligibility depends on license type, and certain legacy licenses are not eligible.[7] A customer running an on-premises deployment that is not linked to the Cloud Platform cannot use the Self-Service Portal. Such a customer must give notice of non-renewal by email to legal@lansweeper.com.[1] An OT hub can be linked to either Lansweeper On-premises or Lansweeper Sites, but only one link can be active at a time.[9]
Virtualization & partitioning
Deployments are counted as software installations, not by the hardware or virtual machines that host them. The documents set no processor or host limit on the servers that run the database, scanning servers or web console. Lansweeper Classic can run on a virtual or physical Windows Server.[5] The Terms make the customer responsible for licensing third-party software needed to run the Product, such as the database server.[1]
Cloud / BYOL
The Cloud Platform is a multi-tenant platform managed by Lansweeper.[1] The pricing FAQ says a license includes Lansweeper Cloud at no additional licensing cost.[2] A site is hosted in Europe (Ireland) or US East (Ohio), and the region cannot be changed after setup.[10] Lansweeper states that the choice of region concerns data residency and does not unlock different features.[11]
Programs
Deployment rules are the same for direct and resold subscriptions. Resellers must establish License Key delivery with the customer.[1] See Lansweeper Terms of Use, renewal and compliance.
Out of scope
This page does not cover installation requirements, scanning credentials or network ports. It also does not cover the licensing of the Microsoft SQL Server or IIS components that a Lansweeper Classic installation uses; those are governed by Microsoft’s terms.
