ControlUp licensing covers the subscriptions ControlUp sells for its digital employee experience (DEX) and endpoint management platform. The platform monitors and remediates physical desktops, Cloud PCs, virtual desktops (VDI and DaaS) and SaaS applications. The current packaging is ControlUp ONE, a unified platform licence, plus separate product lines: ControlUp for Desktops, ControlUp for VDI, the Apps, Compliance and Pulse AI Resolve add-ons, and ControlUp DaaS IQ.[1] Subscriptions are governed by the ControlUp Software as a Service Agreement. It grants a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence for the Term. The licence covers the customer, its Affiliates and their employees, agents and vendors, and depends on an active Order and payment.[2] Use is limited to the quantity of licences, metrics or capacity in the Order, “e.g., Named Users, Concurrent Sessions, Endpoints”.[2] ControlUp publishes no prices. Its pricing page offers a free trial and a sales contact for each product.[1] For the general models, see concurrent and device licensing and named user licensing.

Compliance and Apps are the only features that can be bought separately.[3] Catalog: Features are sold in Essential, Advanced or ONE packages; only Compliance and Apps separately. Remote Clients, formerly Remote DX, collects metrics from client devices connected to monitored VDI sessions.[10]
Metrics
| ControlUp unit | Catalog row | Definition |
|---|---|---|
| Device | Device (ControlUp for Desktops) | Each device connected with the ControlUp for Desktops Agent uses one licence.[5] |
| Concurrent license | Concurrent license (VDI) | Daily managed single-user workstations plus the daily peak of concurrent RDS or multi-user sessions.[4] |
| Named User | Named User | Any individual authorized by the customer to use the Software.[2] |
| End Point | End Point | Each hardware or virtualized station monitored by the Software, including PCs, laptops, terminal services, VDI and servers.[2] |
| Scout credit | Scout credit | Credits consumed per synthetic monitoring scout by type.[6] |
| Licensed Unit | Licensed Unit (MSP) | The units, metrics or capacity an MSP buys in a Schedule.[8] |
| IOP data volume | Insights On-Premises data volume | Insights On-Premises uses Splunk, whose licence mainly sets how much data can be indexed.[12] |
ControlUp for VDI can be licensed by concurrent use or by named users. The choice changes what has to be counted. See ControlUp VDI, desktops and synthetic monitoring license counting.
Counting / floors
Usage display. The Subscription page shows licences in use per product. It warns when usage approaches 90% of the allocated amount.[3] For VDI it shows the maximum daily sessions or the named users from the last 90 days. For Synthetic Monitoring it shows scout credits.[3] Catalog: Usage alerts appear at 90% of the allocated quantity.
Excess Use. ControlUp may monitor and audit use. After notice of Excess Use, the customer has 30 days to stop it or to buy more licences, prorated to the end of the Order Term.[2] If Excess Use recurs and lasts more than a month in the same term, ControlUp may invoice it at then-current rates without a cure period.[2] Growth within allowances written into the Order is not Excess Use.[2] Catalog: Excess Use must stop or be bought within 30 days, pro rata; Repeated Excess Use over one month is invoiced without a cure period.
Built-in caps. The SaaS Agreement limits Scoutbees to 20,000 tests per rolling 24 hours. It limits Remote Control for Unmanaged Devices to 50 sessions per rolling 24 hours. AI Features follow the limits in the Order or Documentation.[2] Catalog: Scoutbees is limited to 20,000 tests per rolling 24 hours; Remote Control for unmanaged devices is limited to 50 sessions per day.
Floors. No minimum quantity is published for direct customers. MSPs commit to a Committed Quantity of Licensed Units in each Schedule.[8]
Virtualization & partitioning
ControlUp has no processor or core metric. Virtual desktops are counted through the VDI metrics: single-user workstations, multi-user sessions or named users.[4] The SaaS Agreement’s End Point definition expressly includes terminal services, VDI and servers.[2] The Cloud PC Bundle lets one ControlUp for Desktops Advanced licence cover both a Cloud PC and a physical desktop.[1] Catalog: Cloud PC Bundle: one licence covers Cloud PCs and physical desktops.
Cloud / BYOL
ControlUp ONE is delivered as SaaS from hosting providers ControlUp engages. Their services are provided under the providers’ own terms, and ControlUp gives no warranty for them.[2] VDI deployments can also run on-premises, and Insights On-Premises uses a Splunk licence file to set data capacity.[12] The Auto-Renewal Policy mentions on-premises subscriptions and perpetual licences, which it excludes, so these licence types exist alongside SaaS.[7] No bring-your-own-licence rules for public cloud are published.
Programs
- Auto-Renewal Policy. Direct customers with annual recurring revenue up to USD 75,000 renew automatically for one year at the same licence type and quantity. The price increase is capped at the lower of 15% or list price.[7]
- Evaluation (30 days) under the SaaS Agreement, and the in-product 21-day trial with a 7-day grace extension.[2][11]
- MSP Commit-to-Consume and the Tenant Manager licence pool for managed service providers.[8]
- Support plans by licence tier. ONE and Advanced licences get a 2-hour, 24x7 response to Urgent tickets. Essential licences get 2 business hours.[13]
Contract terms
Each Order is a binding, non-cancellable commitment for its full term. Customers cannot reduce scope for convenience, and lower usage earns no refund or credit.[2] Catalog: Orders are non-cancellable and usage reductions earn no refund. Neither party may assign the Agreement without the other’s written consent.[2] For 60 days after an Order ends, Customer Data can be exported free of charge.[2] The contract terms are covered in detail in ControlUp SaaS Agreement, renewal and MSP terms.
Out of scope
This article does not cover ControlUp’s Data Processing Addendum, the security and trust documentation, the Migrate for Windows 365 tool, or pricing, which ControlUp does not publish. On-premises Real-Time DX licence files and older perpetual licences are mentioned only where current documents refer to them.
