1Password Business and 1Password Teams Starter Pack are the two plans 1Password sells to organizations through its public price list. Business is priced per user, with a minimum of one user, and Teams Starter Pack is a flat price for a pack that requires at least 10 users and holds up to 20.[1] Both are recurring subscriptions billed monthly or annually.[2] Business customers who buy through an Order Form contract under the Subscription Terms for Business Customers, which define the Business Customers as those “subscribed to 1Password Teams or Business accounts”.[13] Both plans also include a quota of guest accounts, and Business adds a free 1Password Families membership for each user.[1] The counting model is named user licensing: the billable unit is a person with an account, not a device or an installation.

The pack price is also published in other currencies: CAD 29.95 per month (CAD 359.40 per year) and EUR 21.95 per month (EUR 263.40 per year), and all additional-seat prices apply to annual billing.[1] 1Password’s own comparison describes Teams Starter Pack as a way to “secure a small team for a flat monthly price”. Business, in the same comparison, adds identity-provider integrations, broader role-based vault sharing and permissions, Watchtower alerts, and more administration and reporting.[1] The feature table on the pricing page lists single sign-on, provisioning with directories such as Azure AD, Google Workspace and Okta, and streaming events to SIEM tools among the Business capabilities.[1]
The plans also differ in how much automation they allow. The service-account limits that 1Password publishes for its developer tools depend on the account type. A Business account gets 10,000 reads and 1,000 writes per hour per service account token and 50,000 requests a day per account. A Teams account gets 1,000 reads and 100 writes per hour and 5,000 requests a day.[10] The limits are not priced separately. Among the remedies 1Password lists for reaching them is to change the account type.[10]
Other ways to buy Business exist. It can be procured through “Buy with AWS” on AWS Marketplace, and 1Password offers discounts for eligible organizations, including nonprofits and journalists, and customized volume-based pricing through its sales team.[1] Payment is by credit card or, for eligible US bank accounts, ACH direct debit.[1]
Metrics
- Team member / user. Catalog row User. The Subscription Terms define Users as individuals the customer authorizes and supplies with login credentials, and they may include employees, consultants, contractors and agents.[13] On a self-managed Business subscription, 1Password bills “for each team member”.[2]
- Teams Starter Pack member. Catalog row Teams Starter Pack member. The pack includes 10 team members; 10 additional seats can be added, for 20 members in total.[1]
- Guest. Catalog row Guest. A guest has no Employee vault and has access only to a single vault chosen by an owner or administrator.[3]
Counting / floors
Proration on join. A person added to a Business account is charged a prorated amount based on the date they join and the time left in the monthly or annual billing cycle. The charge is made within 48 hours of the person accepting the invitation.[2] Billing therefore follows accepted invitations, not sent ones. Email invitations expire after 5 days.[5] A sign-up link does not expire until it is revoked. Anyone with an email address under the organization’s allowed domains can use it to create an account.[5] An unmanaged sign-up link is therefore a route to unplanned billable users.
Guests above the quota. Business includes 20 guests and charges for additional guests above 20.[2] The guest support page states the same quotas: 1Password Teams includes 5 guests, Business 20, and further guests “for an additional cost”. The Teams Starter Pack includes a maximum of 5 guests.[3] A guest can be invited to only one vault at a time.[3] Giving a guest an Employee vault or access to more than one shared vault requires promoting them to team member.[3] The promoted person is then billed as a team member.[2] Catalog: A guest can access only one shared vault at a time; Business bills per team member, prorated, with 20 guests included.
Teams Starter Pack ceiling. A Teams Starter Pack subscription includes 10 team members and 5 guests. To invite more, the customer contacts 1Password Support.[2] During a Teams Starter Pack trial, up to 10 team members can be added. Further people can be added only after removing team members, or with help from Support.[2] The plan has a limit of 10 team members, and a Business account with more than 10 users cannot switch to a team account.[4] Catalog: Teams Starter Pack covers 10 members and 5 guests, up to 20 members with added seats; Business cannot switch to a team account above 10 users.
Removals and same-type replacement. In team and business accounts, removing a team member or guest is reflected in the next monthly or annual invoice. Within the same billing period, another person can be added in place of the one removed without any change to billing, but only like for like: “A team member can only be replaced with another team member, and a guest can only be replaced with another guest.”[2] Amounts already charged are not refunded.[2] Catalog: Removed team members drop off the next invoice; same-type replacement is free within the period.
Suspended versus deleted. Team members can be suspended temporarily or deleted permanently. A deleted person who returns must be invited again as a new team member.[5] After a trial, 1Password does not charge for people who are suspended, deleted, or invited but not yet joined.[2] 1Password’s offboarding guidance has four steps. The departing person first moves their items, then their account is suspended, then shared passwords are changed, and finally the account is deleted. When automated provisioning is in use, the person must be deprovisioned in the identity provider before the 1Password account can be deleted.[8] Catalog: Suspend, then delete departing team members after moving their items.
Trial conversion. Business and Families trials allow any number of people to be added or removed. The first invoice bills the active family members, team members and guests. Active users are counted daily at 7:00 PM ET, so the first invoice can include people added up to 24 hours before the subscription starts.[2] The invoice is issued within 48 hours after the trial ends.[2] Catalog: First invoice after a trial counts active users at 7:00 PM ET; suspended and pending are not charged.
Billing frequency and price changes. A customer can switch between monthly and annual billing at any time. When it does, the subscription price changes to the current rate on the pricing page, and a customer on an older plan cannot keep its previous rate.[9] 1Password issues an invoice for each billing change, including adding or removing people.[9] These invoices give a running record of the licensed quantity. Catalog: Changing billing frequency moves the subscription to current list pricing.
Guest and Families entitlements
Free Families membership. Each member of a team that uses 1Password Business gets a complimentary 1Password Families membership that they can share with their family.[6] The membership is redeemed by linking a new or existing family account to the business account, and only the subscription status is linked.[6] The family account belongs to its family organizer, and the business cannot access or manage it.[6] The membership stays active only while the family account is linked and the organization has an active Business subscription.[6] Teams Starter Pack does not include the benefit.[1] Catalog: Free Families membership for Business users; Free Families membership lasts only while linked to an active Business account; A linked family account shares only subscription status with the business.
Leaving the business. When a person leaves or is removed from the business account, the family account is unlinked and enters a complimentary trial period. A payment method can then be added to start a paid Families subscription.[6] The unlinking guide describes a 14-day complimentary trial, after which the account freezes until a payment method is added.[7] The offboarding guide adds that the family account becomes read-only when the person is suspended or deleted from the organization’s account, without loss of items.[8] For the employer, the benefit has no cost of its own and no separate count. Only the Business user count carries a cost.
Virtualization & partitioning
1Password is a hosted service and no reviewed 1Password document measures Business or Teams Starter Pack use by device, host, core or virtual machine. Every subscription includes the apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android and browser extensions,[2] so the number of installations does not change the count.
Cloud / BYOL
There is no bring-your-own-licence construct. The region in which the account is created sets the billing currency and data location; this is described in 1Password licensing. Customers whose subscription is managed by a 1Password Business representative are directed to their Account Manager for the terms of that subscription, rather than to the self-service billing rules.[2]
Programs
- 14-day free trial of Business and Teams Starter Pack, with no credit card required.[1]
- Buy with AWS procurement of Business through AWS Marketplace.[1]
- Nonprofit, journalist and volume pricing through sales.[1]
- Free Families membership for Business users, described above.
Cancellation and lapse
A self-managed subscription can be cancelled at any time. A cancelled subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period, after which the account freezes.[9] 1Password does not refund past charges or the time remaining at cancellation.[11] In a frozen account, users can still view and copy their items but cannot, among other things, invite people to the team. Customers that also use Device Trust or SaaS Manager lose access to those products while the account is frozen.[12] Catalog: Cancelled subscriptions run to period end, then the account freezes.
