Ubiquiti UniFi subscriptions and license-free software

This article is about which UniFi applications Ubiquiti says carry no licence fee and which optional UniFi services are sold by subscription (Talk, UID Enterprise, Official UniFi Hosting, Professional Site Support). Contract wording is in the EULA and Terms of Service article.

On This Page

Ubiquiti’s UniFi subscriptions sit alongside a larger body of software that Ubiquiti presents as free of licence fees. For licence management the useful distinction is between entitlements Ubiquiti itself meters (phone numbers, identity users, hosted environments, supported sites) and applications that run on customer-owned hardware with no counted metric. The product-page statements below are Ubiquiti’s descriptions as retrieved on 2026-10-08, not contract clauses; the controlling terms are the EULA and Terms of Service.

Applications described as license-free

UniFi Protect. The physical security page states “Run 4 or 4,000 cameras - licensing is still $0”, and that Protect handles all AI and recording on the local UNVR or Enterprise NVR, eliminating cloud fees, subscriptions and paid AI add-ons.[1] No camera count is licensed.

UniFi Access. The Door Access Overview page carries a “No Licensing Fees” heading for the product.[2] The page states no metric.

UniFi Site Manager. Site Manager at unifi.ui.com is a centralized platform for managing deployments remotely, covering the sites a user owns or has been granted administrative permissions to; remote management is enabled by default at initial setup.[4] A Ubiquiti article dated 2026-04-20 describes enterprise IT with UniFi and the new Site Manager as completely license-free.[3] The help article also covers offline, local-only management for outages or air-gapped setups.[4]

UniFi Identity (license-free plan). The Identity page lists license-free and enterprise options, and its FAQ states that UniFi Identity runs on UniFi Cloud Gateways, Network Video Recorders and CloudKey+ consoles.[8] The Talk softphone runs in the license-free UniFi Identity mobile app.[5]

The Terms of Service reserve a right to charge fees for current or new services but state that users will not be charged unless Ubiquiti first obtains their agreement to pay.[12] A statement that an application is license-free is therefore a pricing position at a point in time, and the retrieval date matters when a record is audited.

UniFi Talk

UniFi Talk is Ubiquiti’s telephony application. A UniFi Talk subscription provides local phone numbers that support emergency calling; each number offers 3,000 monthly minutes for worldwide inbound calls and outbound calls to the US, Canada and Mexico, and monthly minutes are shared by all active numbers managed by the application.[5] Several points follow from the help article.

  • A subscription is activated for each number. Local extension calling is free and does not need a subscription.[5]
  • Porting a number in is free, but activation includes purchasing a subscription for that number, and existing subscriptions do not apply to newly ported numbers.[5]
  • The subscription service is available in the US, the UK and Canada. Elsewhere unlocked UniFi Talk phones can be used with third-party SIP providers.[5]
  • Usage beyond the first 3,000 minutes is charged at a per-minute rate.[5]

The product page publishes the plans.

Country Plan Fee Allowance
United States Plus USD 9.99 per month per number 3,000 monthly minutes, 50 SMS, 60 transcription minutes per number[6]
United States Pro USD 24.99 per month per number Unlimited voice and SMS in the US, Canada and Mexico; 600 transcription minutes; 3,000 CNAM lookups[6]
Canada Plus C$12.99 per month per number Same allowances as US Plus[6]
Canada Pro C$24.99 per month per number Unlimited voice and SMS in the US, Canada and Mexico; 600 transcription minutes[6]
United Kingdom Single plan GBP 7.99 per month per number 3,000 monthly minutes, 60 transcription minutes[6]

Minutes and SMS are pooled across numbers on the Plus Plan, and usage beyond the pool is charged per minute; the Pro Plan is designed for regular business use, and high-volume calling such as call centers, auto-dialing and trunking is not allowed, with Ubiquiti able to suspend or terminate service for misuse.[6] A 15-day free trial covers up to two UniFi Talk numbers when UniFi Talk is installed on the UniFi OS Console.[6]

The Pro Plan is available in the United States and Canada, and adds caller ID name lookups and softphone support. Softphones are not available to UID Enterprise users.[5]

UID Enterprise (UniFi Identity Enterprise)

UID Enterprise is Ubiquiti’s cloud identity workspace for larger deployments. The paid plan costs USD 5 per user per month (USD 4.5 per user per month with annual payment), tax excluded, with unlimited sites and doors, and a minimum of 5 users.[7] Users with Pending, Active, Suspended, Locked, Password Reset and Password Expired status are billable; Deactivated and Staged users are not.[7] That makes the billable count a function of account state, not of headcount.

For users in the U.S. regions, upgrading offers a 30-day free trial of the Paid Plan; afterwards the Workspace Owner can subscribe or downgrade to the license-free UniFi Identity, which requires at least a UniFi Console in the workspace.[7] The Basic Plan in the U.S. was cancelled on April 10, 2024. Workspaces created after that date can subscribe only to the Paid Plan.[7]

Billing rules: the customer pays upfront at the start of each billing cycle; only the Workspace Owner can pay and manage subscriptions; plans renew automatically unless payment fails; on cancellation the paid features remain until the end of the billing cycle, after which the workspace is suspended unless the owner subscribes again within 7 days.[7] The Identity page adds that annual plans carry a 10 percent discount against monthly plans and that non-profit organizations recognised under section 501(c)(3) are offered a 50 percent discount; availability of paid enterprise plans outside the United States was stated as limited at the time of retrieval.[8]

Official UniFi Hosting

Official UniFi Hosting is sold as a subscription from USD 29.00 per month. It lets the customer manage up to 1,000 UniFi Network devices, with centralized management through Site Manager, and can be paired with a UXG series gateway.[9] The device count is the stated limit. The page does not describe how the count is enforced, so the record should note this as a gap.

Professional Site Support

Professional Site Support is an optional paid tier providing priority phone support for a single physical site managed with a UniFi Cloud Gateway or other UniFi Network deployment. Physical Security devices (UniFi Protect and Access) at the same site are included in the same site-level licence as the Network devices. It is offered on 1 or 3 year plans, activated in Site Manager, with a 24x7 or Business Hours option. Ubiquiti states that its existing chat and 24/7 email support remain free of charge.[10] The unit of licence is the physical site, so a customer with several buildings needs a subscription for each site it wishes to cover.

Reading subscriptions against the contract

Subscriptions to Services fall under the Services General Terms: authorization lasts for the Coverage Period, fees follow the Fee Schedule, Ubiquiti may adjust the Fee Schedule in its sole discretion, and all payments are final and non-refundable.[11] Ubiquiti may end a Service on 30 days’ notice for any reason.[11] Reselling a Service, alone or bundled into another good or service, is a ground for suspension.[11] A managed service provider that uses a customer’s subscription to serve third parties should check the Professional Integrators terms and the reselling language before relying on it.

Out of scope

This article does not cover the UniFi Professional Integrators Program fees (see EULA and Terms of Service), hardware pricing, store terms, or regional taxes and rates that Ubiquiti publishes separately, such as international calling and SMS rate tables.
