Lucid licensing

This article is an overview of how Lucid licenses Lucidchart, Lucidspark, the Lucid Suite and related add-ons as per-user cloud subscriptions. Deeper articles cover the Terms of Service, plans and seats, and Enterprise add-ons. It is not legal advice.

On This Page

Lucid licensing is the set of terms under which Lucid Software Inc. sells its cloud collaboration products: Lucidchart for diagramming, Lucidspark for virtual whiteboarding, the Lucid Suite that combines the two on Enterprise accounts, and add-ons such as the Cloud Accelerator, Process Accelerator and Enterprise Shield. Lucid also offers airfocus, a product-management tool operated through its wholly owned subsidiary airfocus GmbH. All of these are software-as-a-service subscriptions. There is no perpetual licence, no licence key and no on-premises installer in the documents reviewed.[1][2]

The governing contract for self-service and most direct customers is the Lucid Software Inc. Terms of Service, last updated 2026-07-01, which applies to the Services and to Lucid’s websites unless a written agreement between the customer and Lucid supersedes it.[1] AI features are covered by separate Supplemental AI Terms that sit on top of the Terms of Service or a signed master services agreement.[3] Lucid publishes its legal documents on one index page.[4] Lucid’s pricing and plan pages are served from lucid.app, and its help centre is at help.lucid.co.[5][1]

Editions

Lucid describes five plan levels. Free gives limited access to basic features in Lucidchart or Lucidspark. Individual and Team unlock premium features in a single product for one person or a team. Enterprise gives access to the Lucid Visual Collaboration Suite, which combines Lucidchart and Lucidspark. A FedRAMP plan, marketed as Lucid GovSuite, is listed beside Enterprise.[6]

Plan Who it is for How it is bought
Free Anyone No payment; Lucidchart Free is limited to three editable documents with 75 shapes per document[5]
Individual One person Self-service, monthly or annual[5]
Team Groups needing real-time collaboration Self-service, per user, monthly or annual[5]
Enterprise (Lucid Suite) Organizations Contact sales; Enterprise pricing is not published[7]
FedRAMP (Lucid GovSuite) US public sector Contact sales[6]

When the Lucidchart pricing page was retrieved on 2026-10-08 from a European location it showed Individual at 9 euro per month billed annually and Team at 10 euro per user per month billed annually, excluding VAT, with Enterprise on a contact-sales basis.[5] The currency and amounts shown depend on the visitor’s location, so the figures are indicative only. The Lucidspark pricing page lists the same four tiers; its price figures did not render in the retrieved text.[8] The Terms of Service say that payments are made in the currency set out on the pricing page, in the Order or in US dollars, and that amounts exclude sales or use taxes such as GST or VAT.[1]

Two further plan details matter for entitlement checks. Lucid states that its plans and their details may change over time but will not be materially degraded in the middle of a Subscription Term.[1] Lucid also notes that legacy accounts may show differences in licensing because of prior commitments, negotiated terms or historical configurations.[9]

Metrics

The unit of licensing is the named user, per product. The Terms of Service state that user subscriptions are for named individuals, cannot be shared or used by more than one individual at a time, and may be reassigned to a new User who replaces an individual who no longer uses the service.[1] Three user states exist in the documentation.

  • Licensed user. Holds a Lucidchart licence, a Lucidspark licence or, on Enterprise, a Lucid Suite licence. On a Team account every user requires a licence.[10]
  • Limited-access user (Enterprise only). Can view documents made by other users but cannot create or edit them, and is not factored into the licence count.[11]
  • Guest Collaborator (Lucidspark Team and Enterprise). Has no Lucid account and joins a board through a shared link; there is no limit on the number of Guest Collaborators on a board at the same time.[12]

The deeper article on plans, seats and licence management explains how these states are assigned. The catalog rows are Lucidchart licensed user, Lucidspark licensed user, Lucid Suite licensed user, Limited-access user and Guest Collaborator.

Counting and floors

Team accounts are sold in steps rather than as arbitrary seat counts. Lucid’s auto-upgrade documentation uses the levels Team 3, Team 5 and Team 10: a Lucidchart Team 3 account moves to Team 5 when a fourth user is added, a Team 5 account moves to Team 10 when a sixth user is added, and after that each upgrade adds 10 licences.[13] Resellers sell Lucidchart Team, Lucidspark Team and Lucid Suite Enterprise in quantities of 5.[2]

The Terms of Service allow additional paid users to be added during a term at the then-current unit price, prorated for the remainder of the term, but state that products and quantities purchased cannot be decreased during a Subscription Term.[1] A reduction therefore takes effect only at renewal, and a Multi-User Plan must be changed at least 30 days before the term ends.[1]

Virtualization and partitioning

Not applicable. Lucid products are delivered as hosted services, and the documents reviewed contain no processor, core, device or virtual-machine metric.

Cloud and BYOL

There is no bring-your-own-licence model. The Terms of Service grant access to the Services for the Subscription Term, solely for internal business or personal purposes, and prohibit reselling, renting or otherwise making the Services available to third parties except as expressly authorized.[1] Affiliates of an entity that buys a Multi-User Plan may use the Services as Users on that account, or may sign their own Order.[1]

Programs

  • Free trials. A Lucidchart or Lucidspark trial lasts seven days, requires payment details at signup and converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled.[5][8]
  • Auto-upgrade. Team and Enterprise accounts can have licences added automatically and charged when users exceed the purchased total.[13]
  • Channel Partner Program. Resellers and Solution Partners sign a Channel Partner Agreement; because Lucid sells only SaaS, no licence keys are issued to partners.[2]
  • Accelerators and add-ons. The Cloud Accelerator, Process Accelerator and Enterprise Shield are bought through sales for Enterprise accounts.[6]
  • Lucid AI. Currently available to all users, but Lucid may move it to a paid subscription model.[6][3]

Audits and compliance

The Terms of Service reviewed on 2026-10-08 have 23 numbered sections, and none is headed as an audit or true-up clause.[1] Compliance is instead enforced through how the service works: seats are granted by an admin, the admin panel shows licence totals, and auto-upgrade or manual purchases add licences at the current unit price. Lucid may suspend access if undisputed amounts are past due or if use creates a security vulnerability or violates the Use Restrictions, and may downgrade an account to a free account if the reason for suspension cannot be resolved.[1] Late undisputed amounts may incur a 1.5 percent monthly fee.[1] Large customers should still check any signed Order for audit or reporting language, because the online terms apply only where nothing signed supersedes them.

Renewal and cancellation

Subscriptions renew automatically with the current products and number of subscriptions for the same period.[1] Fees are non-cancellable and, once paid, non-refundable except where the Terms or the law provide otherwise.[1] The help centre repeats a no-refund policy for all cancellations, says that each Lucid product must be cancelled separately, and says a cancelled plan falls back to a limited free plan at the end of the paid period.[14] Lucid may change renewal pricing on written notice to the customer or an account admin.[1]

Out of scope

This article does not cover the Lucid Privacy Policy, the Developer Terms or the Data Processing Addendum, which the Terms of Service apply to Enterprise-SKU customers on a Multi-User Plan.[1] Price comparison with other vendors and tooling advice are also out of scope. Related articles in this set cover the Terms of Service and subscription terms, plans, seats and licence management and Enterprise add-ons, Accelerators and AI.
