Jamf School is Jamf’s device management product for K-12 schools. It is the management layer in the Jamf for K-12 offer, alongside Jamf Safe Internet, Jamf Connect and Jamf Protect.[6] Its licensing differs from Jamf Pro. Every device enrolled in Jamf School must have a licence assigned to be managed.[1] Licences come as recurring types, which end on a fixed calendar, academic or anniversary date, or as a lifetime licence tied to one device’s serial number.[1][4] Schools buy licences in the product, through a reseller or through a local Jamf partner.[1] The SLASA governs public education customers too. Eligible US public institutions can sign an Education Customer Amendment.[8] For the agreement as a whole, see Jamf licensing.

Metrics
Jamf School documentation names five licence types:[1]
| Licence type | Ends | Terms available | Catalog metric |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calendar year | December 31 | 1, 2 or 3 years; pro rata if bought on another day | Recurring licence |
| Academic year | July 31 | 1, 2 or 3 years; pro rata | Recurring licence |
| Academic year (Southern hemisphere) | January 31 | 1, 2 or 3 years; pro rata | Recurring licence |
| Full year | One year from purchase, or a configured end date | 1 to 4 years | Recurring licence |
| Lifetime | Does not expire while the device stays managed in the instance | One-time | Lifetime licence |
Calendar-year and academic-year licences bought on a day other than the period end are charged only for the months and days remaining.[1] Catalog: Jamf School calendar and academic year licences are charged pro rata.
Counting / floors
One licence per enrolled device. Recurring licences are assigned automatically as devices enrol. Lifetime licences must be assigned, either manually or through an Automated Device Enrollment profile.[2][3] The count to reconcile is therefore enrolled devices, compared with the active recurring licences plus the assigned lifetime licences. The SLASA defines a Device as a customer device, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS and tvOS devices.[9] Catalog: Jamf School: every enrolled device needs a licence; two-week grace period after expiry; Recurring Jamf School licences are assigned automatically on enrolment; lifetime licences manually.
Expiry and grace. When licences expire, the school can keep using Jamf School for a two-week grace period. During it, the school can remove devices to free licences or buy new ones. After the grace period, it must contact its account team or reseller to buy licences.[1] A trial instance has a 30-day trial licence, followed by the same two-week grace period.[1]
Floors. The education offers say device minimums apply but do not state them.[6]
Mobility and transfer
Recurring licences move. Recurring licences (calendar, academic and full year) can be removed from a device and reassigned to a new one. The device must first be moved to the Trash.[4] Catalog: Recurring Jamf School licences can be reassigned after the device is moved to Trash.
Lifetime licences do not. A lifetime licence is tied to the device’s serial number and cannot be transferred. It is valid as long as the device is managed in that Jamf School instance.[3] Once assigned, it cannot be reassigned. A device can receive a lifetime licence only once. If the device moves to another Jamf School instance, it cannot receive a lifetime licence there.[3] Jamf recommends lifetime licences only for new devices.[3] Catalog: Jamf School lifetime licence is tied to the serial number and cannot be reassigned.
Warranty replacement and theft. There is one exception. If Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider replaces a device under Apple’s one-year limited warranty, or the device is stolen, Jamf Support may transfer the lifetime licence to the new device. The school must provide documentation from Apple with both serial numbers and the reason for the repair, or a police report for a theft.[5] No transfer is made without Apple’s documentation. Jamf Support decides whether the evidence is enough.[5] Catalog: Lifetime licence transfer only for Apple warranty replacement or theft, with documentation.
The choice between the two types is a lifecycle decision. A lifetime licence costs once but disappears with the device. A recurring licence is paid every period but follows the fleet as devices are replaced. Lifetime licences suit new devices that will stay in one instance for their working life. Recurring licences suit fleets that turn over or move between instances.
Virtualization & partitioning
Not applicable. Jamf School licenses enrolled physical devices, and its documentation publishes no virtualization rules.
Cloud / BYOL
Jamf School is a hosted service. Licences are bought in the product’s License Management page, where the school chooses the licence type, start date (and end date for full-year licences) and quantity, then pays through Stripe.[2] Schools outside the United States buy through a local Jamf partner. In the US, a reseller can buy for schools whose purchase includes a Jamf School bundle or enhanced support.[1]
Programs
Education Customer Amendment. Some US public education institutions are bound by laws that stop them agreeing to certain contract terms. For them, this amendment modifies the SLASA, and the institution represents that it is one.[7] It brings information covered by state open-records laws within the confidentiality definition. It handles tax exemption by certificate. It omits the SLASA’s third-party indemnification section. It replaces Jamf’s contracting-party table with the law and courts of the customer’s state, and it removes Jamf’s right to list the customer publicly.[7] Jamf’s FAQ says only public education institutions may sign it.[8] Catalog: Education Customer Amendment available only to US public education institutions.
Trial Offerings. Jamf School trials run 30 days.[1] Under the SLASA, trials are for non-production use only.[9]
