Besides its storage plans, Dropbox sells three related products with their own licence units, Dropbox Sign (electronic signatures), DocSend (tracked document sharing and virtual data rooms) and Replay (media review), plus add-ons for Dropbox team plans. All are covered by the Dropbox Services Agreement when bought by an organisation, with product rules in the Service-Specific Terms.[3] Under the Dropbox Services Agreement, add-ons “may not be purchased on a standalone basis” and must be attached to a subscription to the service they extend.[17]
Editions
Dropbox Sign
Standalone Dropbox Sign has three plans:[1]
| Plan | Audience | Listed price (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Essentials | Individual sender | 15 per month billed monthly; 10.05 per month (120.60 per year) billed yearly |
| Standard | Small team | 25 per user per month billed monthly; 17.50 per user per month billed yearly, from 420 per year |
| Premium | Large team | Custom quote |
Essentials gives one sender unlimited documents and up to five templates or template links.[16] The free version includes 3 document transactions per month (self-signed documents or signature requests), and Dropbox offers no pay-per-document option (metric).[2] API plans are priced by the number of signature requests sent per month; embedded signing and requesting need at least the Standard API plan and embedded templates the Premium API plan.[4]
Inside Dropbox, eSignature is bundled with plans: the plan comparison lists 3 signature requests per month on Plus, Standard and Advanced, while Business includes unlimited signature requests and up to 15 templates.[14][15]
DocSend
| Plan | Users included | Annual billing (USD) | Monthly billing (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | 1 | 10 per user per month | 15 per user per month |
| Standard | 1 | 45 per user per month | 65 per user per month |
| Advanced | 3 | 150 per month | 250 per month |
| Advanced Data Rooms | 3 | 180 per month | 300 per month |
Sources: DocSend pricing page and help centre.[6][7] Personal includes 4 eSignatures per month; higher plans are unlimited. Visitors to documents and data rooms are unlimited.[6] Advanced Data Rooms allows up to 4,000 assets in Spaces, twice the Advanced capacity, and can be bought at the end of a 14-day trial.[7] The Sub-teams add-on is available through DocSend sales.[13]
Replay
Replay is available on all Dropbox plans with a file limit: 4 files on Basic, Plus, Family, Professional, Standard, Advanced and Enterprise, and 10 on Essentials, Business and Business Plus. The paid Replay Add-On removes the limit and adds password-protected links, transcription and captions, large file transfers and archiving.[9][8]
Metrics
- Sender: “someone who uploads, signs, and sends documents using Dropbox Sign and/or requests signatures from others”.[1]
- Signature Request: the API transaction created when a customer starts a new signature process; one request can collect signatures from several signers on the same contract.[3]
- DocSend user and End User License: DocSend seats.
- Add-on assignment: per-member add-ons assigned in the admin console.
Counting / floors
Dropbox Sign
Only senders are licensed. “Someone who just receives and responds to a signature request isn’t considered a sender”, needs no account beforehand and pays nothing (rule).[1] Standard plans with more than 5 users go through sales.[1] Subscriptions renew automatically unless changed or cancelled.[1] Paid API customers may make up to 100 standard requests per minute, 25 per minute for higher-tier requests and 10 per minute in test mode, unless the Order Form sets other limits, and only API clients (Customer Properties) approved by Dropbox may use the API (rule).[3]
DocSend true-up
DocSend can let customers add users beyond the quantity on the Order Form. Dropbox “will calculate the number of active or suspended End User Licenses on Customer’s account each month” and charges any excess pro rata at the latest Order Form rate to the end of the term; these licences are “non- cancellable and non-refundable” (rule).[3]
Per-member add-ons
The Replay Add-On can be bought per member by teams paying by card, charged pro rata for the current period and then in full; teams with an account manager or not paying by card must buy at least 10 add-ons, but not for the whole team. Add-ons left unassigned at the end of a billing period are cancelled automatically (rule).[8] Teams on a trial cannot buy it, and it can be assigned only to team members.[8][9] Features that apply to the whole team, such as extended version history, data governance and advanced security, are available only as full-team add-ons.[9]
The Sign Standard add-on is available only on Dropbox Business. Upgrading to Business Plus removes it, downgrading to Advanced or Standard removes it with a prorated refund, removal otherwise takes effect at renewal, and the add-on of a removed member is cancelled at the end of the cycle and cannot be reassigned (rule). It is not HIPAA compliant even where a Business Associate Agreement is signed.[5]
Team-wide add-ons
| Add-on | Available on | Contents |
|---|---|---|
| Security | Standard, Business (included in Advanced, Business Plus, Enterprise) | Ransomware detection, data classification, security alerts |
| Data Governance | Standard, Business, Advanced, Business Plus, Enterprise | Legal holds, data retention, 10-year version history |
| Advanced Team & Content Controls | Advanced and Enterprise, through sales | Third-party (BetterCloud) data protection, workflows and lifecycle management |

Virtualization & partitioning
Not applicable: these products license people, requests or files, not hardware.
Cloud / BYOL
Not applicable: all are hosted services. Dropbox Sign for Salesforce stores signed documents in the customer’s Salesforce account and requires an enterprise (or higher) Sign plan.[3] Data uploaded to Dropbox Dash or Dropbox Protect by users without an active licence to a Dropbox plan that includes the feature is automatically deleted (rule).[3]
Programs
Dropbox Sign standalone plans offer 30-day free trials, and DocSend Advanced Data Rooms can be bought at the end of a 14-day free trial.[1][7] Licensing of the core storage plans is described in Dropbox team plans, licenses and storage.
