- Definition
- Licensing Guidelines: Sophos Firewall Virtual Software licences (Base License, perpetual, and the subscriptions) are licensed "per virtual Computer"; "Selection of licenses by number of CPU cores and amount of memory is available".
- Counting rules
- Each virtual, software or cloud (BYOL) firewall instance is licensed by maximum CPU cores, for example an SF SW/Virtual Xstream Protection licence allows up to four cores. Since 2025-03-01 RAM is no longer restricted, although licence names such as SFV4C6 (4 cores, 6 GB) are unchanged. For active-passive virtual HA only the active licence is purchased; active-active virtual HA needs a Base Firewall licence on each device. Term-licensed virtual firewalls cannot be resized unless the licence is an MSP term licence.
- Floors / minimums
- Licence sizes listed in the Licensing Guidelines DNS table: 1C4, 2C4, 4C6, 6C8, 8C16 and Unlimited.
