Tungsten Power PDF is Tungsten Automation’s PDF editor. It was sold as Kofax Power PDF before the company’s rename, and Tungsten’s own licensing page still uses that name.[3] Power PDF has two licensing tracks. The desktop editions (Standard, Advanced and Mac) are bought once per licence and run on the user’s own devices. Power PDF Business is a volume offering for organisations. It is sold by quote with a minimum of five users, as a subscription or a perpetual licence, and is managed centrally.[1]

The pricing page compares the four options with the labels above.[1] The page shows prices in the currency of the visitor’s region. This article records the euro prices served on the retrieval date, and prices in other regions may differ. Power PDF Advanced adds integration “with Sharepoint, iManage and more”, e-signature, batch processing, Bates numbering and advanced redaction to Standard. Business adds “Support for Citrix, Microsoft App-V and Windows Server deployment”, a cloud editor, a Microsoft Teams app, a single admin for “users, installs, security, updates”, AI copilots that require the customer’s own OpenAI licence, and SDK and API capabilities.[1]
The Business product page includes a savings calculator. Its “Price per User” table runs from $114.93 for 5 to 24 users down to $45.44 for 10,000 or more users. The page does not state whether these are annual or one-time amounts.[4] An older Kofax-branded licensing page describes a “Power PDF Enterprise” arrangement tailored to the organisation. It says Tungsten does not “sell licenses in bundles that you purchase in packs”.[3] The current pricing page names this tier Business.[1]
Metrics
- Power PDF individual license. “Power PDF is an individual license and can be installed on a maximum of 2 devices (desktop, laptop or Windows Surface tablets) concurrently but can only be used on 1 of those devices at a time.” The EULA shipped with the product holds the details.[2]
- Power PDF Business user. In the Cloud License Server, “A user assigned to the product occupies a license seat and can run the product.”[5] The pricing page sets the minimum: “Minimum 5 users”.[1]
Counting / floors
Desktop editions
Count one licence per person who uses Power PDF. A second installation on the same person’s laptop or tablet does not need another licence, provided the two are not used at the same time.[2] The desktop editions are perpetual: “you buy once and own it forever, with no additional monthly or annual fees”. Later versions are sold as discounted upgrades.[1] Desktop licences include 90 days of product support from the date of purchase, covering installation, setup, configuration and reinstallation.[1] Catalog proof: A Power PDF individual licence may be installed on two devices but used on one at a time; Power PDF Standard, Advanced and Mac are perpetual; upgrades are bought separately.
Power PDF Business
Business is counted in users, with a floor of five.[1] Under the Cloud License Server, seats are counted per tenant and per product. Administrators assign users manually, by CSV upload, or through Microsoft Entra ID groups. “Unassigning a user releases a license seat and the removed user cannot run the product.”[5] Switching between user management modes “deletes all the users that were assigned using the current mode”.[5] The Admin Portal overview shows the seats granted for the tenant, the seats “Used” by active users, and the users assigned. It also lists each term with its start date, end date and count. A dash in the end date column means a perpetual licence.[5] Catalog proof: Power PDF Business requires at least five users; In the Cloud License Server an assigned user occupies a seat until unassigned.
The following is commentary. The Admin Portal’s granted, used and assigned figures, together with the Sales Order, form the entitlement and consumption record for an effective license position. Because seats belong to assigned users, reclaiming seats from leavers is an administrative task in the portal.
Virtualization & partitioning
The feature table lists “Windows Server Support (2019 / 2022 / 2025)” as not included in Standard or Advanced and included only in Business.[1] The FAQ states that “Power PDF Business supports Citrix, Microsoft App-V and Windows Server network deployment”, while Advanced and Standard run on Windows 8.1 to 11.[1] The feature table also lists “Concurrent licensing via Collaboration License Server (CLS/TLS)” and “License usage monitoring & reporting” under Business deployment.[1] Catalog proof: Only Power PDF Business supports Windows Server, Citrix and App-V deployment.
The following is commentary. A terminal server, Citrix or App-V deployment therefore calls for Business licences rather than desktop licences.
Cloud / BYOL
The Cloud License Server (CLS) “provides an alternative for the on-premise License Server (KLS) used to manage term-based product licenses”. It is hosted by Tungsten, so the customer does not run a licensing server.[5] It supports Power PDF Business and cloud editor 2025.3 or later, Power PDF Reader 2025.3 or later, and Power PDF Business for Mac 5.1.0 or later. Administrators activate the licence with a serial number and product code.[5] The Business cloud editor keeps files “only for the duration of the editing session”.[4] Catalog proof: Cloud License Server (CLS).
Programs
- Business subscription versus perpetual. “Power PDF Business is available as a subscription or perpetual.” The subscription includes the cloud editor, the Teams app, Azure/Entra SSO, “all ongoing updates, and unlimited technical support”. “The perpetual license does not include updates or technical support, but a maintenance contract is available.”[1] Perpetual customers “must upgrade to a Maintenance and Support contract for limited support and updates”.[1] Under the EULA, maintenance renews in three-year terms unless notice is given.[6] Catalog proof: Power PDF Business is sold as subscription or perpetual; perpetual needs a maintenance contract for updates.
- 30-day money back guarantee. The guarantee applies to Power PDF, PaperPort and OmniPage desktop licences bought on tungstenautomation.com. Licences bought from a retailer or reseller are refunded through that seller. “Power PDF Business is not eligible for refunds.”[1] Catalog proof: Power PDF Business is not refundable; desktop editions have a 30-day guarantee.
- 15-day trial. Tungsten offers a free 15-day trial of Power PDF Standard, Advanced or Enterprise.[3] The EULA lists evaluation as a licensed purpose separate from production.[6]
Out of scope
- Power PDF Reader terms and OEM or bundled Power PDF licences supplied with scanners and multifunction printers.
- The on-premise License Server (KLS) configuration for Power PDF, which is documented separately.
- PaperPort and OmniPage, apart from the shared refund policy.
- Reseller price lists and volume tier names, which are not Tungsten documents.
