Perplexity plans, seats and subscriptions

This article is about how Perplexity's individual plans (Free, Pro, Max, Education Pro) and Enterprise plans (Enterprise Pro, Enterprise Max) are priced, counted and billed, including the seat mechanics. It is not about Computer credits, API pricing or contract clauses, which have their own articles.

On This Page

Perplexity sells its subscription products in two shapes. Individual plans are bought by a person and tied to one account. Enterprise plans are bought by an organization as a number of seats that an administrator assigns to members. This article sets out the editions, what each costs according to Perplexity’s own pages, and how seats are counted, added, removed and changed, since the seat rules are where Enterprise billing most often surprises a licence manager.

Editions

Perplexity’s plan comparison lists the plans as Individual (Standard Free, Perplexity Pro, Perplexity Max and Education Pro), Enterprise (Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max) and API (the API Platform).[1]

Individual plans in detail

Pro. The help center describes Pro as extended access to Pro Search, access to a list of advanced models, image and video generation, higher file and attachment limits and exclusive support channels.[1] The public plan page shows Pro as $17 per month or equivalent when billed annually and does not show a monthly-billed price on that page, so the monthly list price should be confirmed at checkout.[7] Upgrades are made from the account settings page through a Stripe payments page.[4]

Max. Max is the top individual tier. It costs $200 per month or $2,000 per year, and annual billing is available only on the web app.[2] It is currently available only to consumers on a Free or Pro plan; Enterprise users are directed to Enterprise Max.[2] Buyers who subscribed to Pro on the web must upgrade on the web: upgrading through the mobile app creates a new separate Max subscription alongside the ongoing Pro subscription.[2] A web upgrade carries the balance over and bills the prorated amount, effective immediately.[2] The public plan page shows Max at $167 per month or equivalent when billed annually.[7]

Education Pro. Education Pro is offered to verified students and educators at a discount and includes everything in Pro.[3] Verification is through SheerID. If verification is approved but checkout fails, the help center advises using the desktop web upgrade flow and notes that an unpaid earlier subscription on the account can block the discounted checkout and redirect to the full Pro price.[3]

Enterprise plans in detail

Enterprise Pro includes nearly all Pro features plus Perplexity Computer, shared Projects and connectors, file uploads, user management, single sign-on and dedicated support, and it states that some models available in consumer plans are not available in Enterprise plans.[12] Enterprise Max adds extended access to Create files and apps, enhanced rate limits for Deep Research queries, 15 videos per month, a repository of 10,000 files in My Files, and premium security features with no seat minimum when the organization has at least one Enterprise Max user.[11]

Metrics

Two metrics describe the whole subscription surface.

  • Individual subscription: one subscription per account. Subscriptions bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play are billed and canceled in the store, and the cancel option does not appear in Perplexity settings for those purchases.[5]
  • Enterprise seat: a seat is purchased capacity owned by the organization, not by an individual, so it can move from one person to another without buying a new one.[9]

Counting / floors

What a seat count means

The Billing page shows each tier with a total split into three rows. Available seats are bought but unused, Assigned seats are held by members with paid access, and Invited seats are held by pending invitations.[9] Assigned and Invited together are the seats in use. A pending invitation holds a seat from the moment it is sent until it is accepted, canceled or declined, so the Available count can be lower than the member list suggests.[9]

Adding seats

Seats can be added in Billing through the Manage dialog. Added seats start the same day and may be prorated.[9] They can also be added during an invitation: if no seat is available in the chosen tier, sending the invitation prompts the inviter to confirm the seats it needs.[9] The Enterprise Terms state the contractual position: seat increases during a billing period are prorated and effective on request or provisioning.[13]

Removing members and reducing seats

Removing a member, canceling an invitation or moving a member to another tier frees the seat but does not reduce the number of seats purchased and creates no refund or credit for the rest of the billing period.[9] To pay for fewer seats, an administrator lowers the seat count in Billing, and the reduction takes effect at the start of the next billing period, which can be up to a year away on an annual plan.[9] The count cannot be set below the seats currently Assigned and Invited.[9] The Enterprise Terms say the same: decreases take effect at the start of the next renewal term without refund or credit for the current period.[13]

Tier changes

Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max seats are counted separately. Moving a member to another tier needs an Available seat in the target tier and buys one if none is available, so moving a member from Max to Pro can still generate a charge while the vacated Max seat stays purchased.[9] Upgrading an Enterprise Pro seat to Enterprise Max produces a prorated charge for the remaining term without changing the renewal date.[11] If every member is on Enterprise Pro, the whole organization can be upgraded to Enterprise Max in one step from Manage billing; if any member is already on Max, that option is not available.[11]

Who can change seats

By default administrators can assign tiers, remove members, add seats beyond an invitation’s needs and reduce the count, while members can invite people to paid access only if the administrator allows it.[9] The seats article warns that if members are allowed to invite, their invitations can add seats and increase the recurring charge without showing them a purchase confirmation, and it advises disabling the member invitation permission to prevent this.[9]

Self-serve versus sales-assisted

The seat model described above applies to organizations that pay Perplexity directly by card on a single billing interval. Organizations on sales-assisted contracts keep their existing seat and billing behavior.[9] Enterprise features are activated only after the administrator has paid for all provisioned seats.[8]

Billing and renewal

For individuals, the Pro billing FAQ lists credit and debit cards, Cash App, Google Pay and Apple Pay, and ACH transfer as accepted payment methods.[4] A valid card is required for promotional and trial redemptions; no charge is made during the trial period, and unless the user cancels first, the subscription renews at the standard rate.[4] The consumer Terms of Service say that subscriptions renew automatically at the subscription frequency and the then-current rate, and that payments are generally nonrefundable except as stated.[14] Refund windows in the help center depend on region: 14 days for the EU, UK and Turkey, 7 days for South Korea and Brazil, and elsewhere 24 hours for monthly subscriptions and 72 hours for annual ones.[6] Canceling returns the account to the free version after the end of the current billing cycle, and deleting an account does not terminate a subscription.[5]

For Enterprise, the billing page says that administrators and billing administrators can update or cancel the subscription, change the payment method and download invoices.[10] Billing for seats in one organization is consolidated into a single invoice, while any API Platform credits are billed separately.[8] Cards are accepted by default; invoice billing is offered for annual subscriptions only, and organizations of 250 or more users can ask for white glove invoicing.[8] An organization in a country where VAT reverse charge applies can add its VAT ID when it creates the organization or later in the subscription portal.[8]

Virtualization & partitioning

Not applicable to the subscription products.

Cloud / BYOL

Not applicable. Enterprise seats do not include API access or credits; API usage is bought separately with a valid payment method, and administrators cannot manage API credits for other users, although API organizations (API Groups) can be set up.[8]

Programs

Out of scope

This article does not cover Computer credits, which are in the credits article, the API Platform, the terms of service, or security administration. Perplexity’s Enterprise self-serve trial position is that none is offered: evaluation goes through the sales team.[8] Plan contents and included models change over time, so the live account settings and checkout pages should be treated as authoritative.
