Pegasystems licensing

This article is an overview of how Pegasystems licenses Pega Platform and Pega Infinity, in Pega Cloud or in a client-managed cloud, and what its public documentation says about usage metrics, subscription packages, AI and support. Deeper articles cover licence compliance reporting, Pega Cloud subscriptions and storage, Pega GenAI and Infinity 26 pricing, and support and renewal terms. It is not about Pega's customer-facing application features.

On This Page

Pegasystems licensing covers the commercial terms under which Pegasystems Inc. sells Pega Platform, the Pega Infinity suite of applications and its cloud services. The company announced the general availability of Pega Infinity 26 on 14 July 2026, describing it as an AI suite available through Pega Cloud or in a client’s managed cloud.[1] Unlike vendors that publish a price list or a standard end user agreement, Pega’s public documentation repeatedly points the reader back to the customer’s own licence agreement: it states that the precise definition of terms such as regular user and invocation user “depends on your own license agreement”.[2] A software asset manager therefore works from the contract and order schedule first, and uses the public documentation to understand how the platform itself measures use.

Editions

Pega does not publish editions with list prices. What the public documentation does describe is the way that cloud subscriptions are packaged and how workloads are classified for licensing.

For Pega Cloud, the documentation says Pega offers a range of subscription options that vary in available environments and storage capacity, and that during the sales cycle the Pega Cloud team works with the client to determine business metrics that reflect its needs.[3] The Standard Production Services package includes client cloud services in a single geographic region, one production environment, one Standard Sandbox, one Large Sandbox, 500 GB of Cloud File Storage and 100 GB of Cloud Data Storage.[3] A separate Standard Dev/Test package provides two Standard Sandboxes and does not include software licences.[3] See Pega Cloud subscriptions and storage.

Applications such as Pega Customer Decision Hub add their own components. Decision Data Storage is included for clients purchasing applications that use Pega Customer Decision Hub, and a Business Operations Environment is part of the optional Strategy Optimizer bundle.[3]

Metrics

Pega’s public metrics come from the License Compliance facility inside Pega Platform. It classifies use by characteristics of authenticated requestors in two broad groups: human users who complete business operations, as Named users, and processing performed through service calls, plus processing by Web users, as Invocation users.[2] By default Named users are subdivided into regular, occasional and sporadic users, and a regular user is one who is logged in and working during at least four one-hour intervals on at least one day in the measurement period.[2] Each completed interaction or service request that performs processing work counts as an invocation, while queries and read-only processing typically do not.[2]

Separately, each Case Type can be given a licence category that communicates its business use: Work Execution, Work Management, Work Dispatch or Complex Work Execution.[4] The licence compliance article explains each, and notes that the default audit reports do not evaluate the Case Type classification.[4]

For AI, the announced metric is the resolved case. Pega says Infinity 26 clients can use as much AI as they need under a flat fee per resolved case, not per token.[1] The contractual definition of a resolved case is not in the public sources.

Counting / floors

The License Compliance facility reports peak counts during a measurement period, typically a calendar month, and users are identified by Operator ID.[2] It reports usage but does not restrict it: the documentation says the facility does not act as a key or trigger that enables or disables features, and that setting it up incorrectly, or not at all, does not limit or alter other operations of the system.[2] Compliance is therefore an after-the-fact reconciliation of reported usage against contract terms, not a technical enforcement.

The floors on the cloud side are storage allocations. Cloud Data Storage is provisioned from the subscription contract, Pega notifies the client at 75 percent usage, and at 90 percent it automatically adds storage, with the new level becoming the new standard entitlement that Pega bills.[5] The client’s data responsibilities include keeping storage at or under the contracted level through archiving, purging or purchasing more of the storage type needed.[6]

Virtualization & partitioning

There is no processor or virtual machine metric in the public documentation. The License Compliance documentation says that in a clustered, multinode system it reports consolidated usage across all nodes, and that the number of nodes or the power of each server node does not affect the data.[2] Partitioning in Pega Cloud is by environment: Development (Standard Sandbox), Staging (Large Sandbox) and Production. A Standard Sandbox supports up to 15 regular developers, testers or users and a Large Sandbox up to 45 regular developers and testers.[3] The client must ensure that production data is present only within production environments.[3]

Cloud / BYOL

Pega Infinity 26 is available through Pega Cloud or in a client’s managed cloud.[1] For Pega GenAI, Pega Cloud clients connect directly to the services, while client-managed cloud and on-premises clients connect to Pega Cloud using PremBridge.[7] Clients can also route Pega GenAI requests to their own OpenAI-compatible model endpoint through the Pega GenAI Gateway, with Pega Support configuring the connection.[8] The AI article covers these.

Programs

Pega’s public programmes are operational policies rather than discount schemes:

  • Support lifecycle. Standard Support runs 18 months from general availability, followed by Extended Support for another 18 months, 36 months in total, and Pega is under no obligation to provide support after that.[9]
  • Service level. Pega will use commercially reasonable efforts for a 99.95% Monthly Uptime Percentage on the Pega Cloud production Environment, with a credit of 10% of that month’s Subscription fees if the target is missed.[10]
  • End of term. On request within 15 days of termination, Pega returns data persisted in Cloud Data Storage in an industry-standard format and then deletes client data.[11]
  • Flat-fee AI. The Predictable AI pricing model described for Infinity 26.[1]

The support and subscription term article covers these in detail.

Out of scope

The negotiated parts of a Pega agreement are not public and are outside this wiki section: licence fees, order schedule metrics, discounts, support fees, partner or reseller terms, and the contractual definitions of cases, users and interactions. The Cloud Subscription Documentation says its client responsibilities apply in addition to and in accordance with the client’s Agreement and applicable Schedule, and it marks some linked pages as not part of that documentation.[6] Pegasystems’ website terms of use and acceptable use policy are also outside this overview.
