The Minitab License Portal is the web application, at licensing.minitab.com, where License Administrators set up Minitab subscriptions and manage their users.[1] It holds Minitab’s Named User-Based subscriptions. Under the Software Subscription Agreement, the number of Authorized Users of such a subscription is limited to the maximum number of individual users purchased, each identified by a unique user ID.[3] Minitab’s Subscriptions and Activation page links each product (Minitab Statistical Software, Engage, Workspace and Simul8) to “Manage your … subscription in the Minitab License Portal”.[5] A licence manager working with portal products counts people, not installations or concurrent sessions.
Editions
The products whose subscriptions run through the License Portal include Minitab Statistical Software, Minitab Workspace, Minitab Engage, Minitab Connect, Real-Time SPC and Minitab Model Ops. Minitab lists these as the License Portal licensed products that can use single sign-on.[2] The published price list sells the Minitab Solution Center as single named user annual subscriptions with online and desktop access to Minitab Statistical Software:[4]
| Plan | Price per user per year (US list) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Core | USD 2,394.00 | Includes Minitab Workspace; required for Minitab Modules[4] |
| Analytics | USD 2,593.50 | Includes Minitab Predictive Analytics[4] |
| Copilot | USD 2,793.00 | Includes Workspace and Predictive Analytics[4] |
| Minitab Module | USD 528 each | Industry or role module, for example Healthcare, Reliability or Supply Chain[4] |
Sales tax may apply, and local currency prices appear in the cart.[4] Minitab Connect and Real-Time SPC are sold under a separate SSA variant that requires a signed Order Form and paid Professional Services for configuration.[9]
Metrics
Named User (Authorized User). The Named User metric counts uniquely named natural persons. They may be the customer’s employees, employees of entities it owns more than 50% of, contractors’ employees working for it, or students and teachers for Academic Purposes.[3] One Solution Center subscription covers the same person on the desktop and online, so desktop and web app use by one user is one entitlement.[4] Catalog: Named user subscription includes online and desktop access.
Roles. In the portal, administrators assign each user a Product Role or an Add-On Role. When users are added in bulk, the role chosen applies to all of them.[1] Users who have not yet created an account show a pending status.[1] Modules are add-ons that require a Solution Center Core licence.[4] Catalog: Minitab Module; Minitab Modules require Solution Center Core.
Counting / floors
What to count. The quantity to reconcile is the number of users holding a Product Role, compared with the maximum number of Authorized Users on the invoice.[3] Administrators can filter the user list by role or status, for example to show only License Administrators or only pending users. They can also turn on a “last accessed date” for each user, which is off by default.[1] The last accessed date is the main portal data for finding unused subscriptions before renewal.
Credential rules. Every Authorized User needs their own user ID and password unless SSO is used. Alias and departmental IDs are prohibited except for the License Administrator, who must assign themselves a licence to use the software. Credentials may not be shared.[3] Catalog: Unique credentials; no shared or departmental IDs.
Reassignment. A licence may be moved from one person to another only once in any 90-day period. The exceptions are personnel changes, internal position changes, reorganisations and similar events.[3] Catalog: Named users may be reassigned once per 90 days.
Joiners and leavers. Administrators add users under Manage Users by typing email addresses or importing a .csv or .txt list. New users get a welcome email to validate their account and create a password, and the email can be turned off in Subscription Preferences. Users can be removed one at a time or in bulk with the same kind of list.[1] Because the SSA requires access to be ended promptly when a user’s rights end, a regular comparison of the portal list with the HR leaver list is the simplest control.[3]
Adding users. Users can be added during a term by paying for the remaining months. Fees are non-refundable.[3]
Floors. No minimum number of users is published.
Identity integration
Single sign-on. Any customer with a License Portal licensed product and a SAML 2.0 identity provider can use single sign-on. Minitab Education Hub does not support it.[2] With SSO, IT can remove access by disabling the user’s account in its own directory.[2] SSO is set up by exchanging metadata with Minitab Technical Support.[2]
SCIM provisioning. Where SSO is used, a License Administrator can create a SCIM token so that users are added, updated and removed from the organisation’s user management system. The token expires after 180 days, and the administrator who created it must stay on the subscription for it to work. The integration supports the SCIM 2.0 /Users endpoint only, not /Groups.[1] Catalog: SSO and SCIM provisioning for License Portal products.
Virtualization & partitioning
Named User-Based counting does not depend on where the software runs. For the desktop app installed in virtual environments, the SSA applies its general clause that such use is at the customer’s own risk.[3]
Cloud / BYOL
Desktop installations licensed through the portal are deployed with the LICENSE_PORTAL=1 property. It applies to Minitab desktop app version 20 or later with online accounts that require sign-in, and deployment preferences such as update checks are then managed in the portal subscription.[6] Users switching from an older licence model change the licence type in the app (Help, About Minitab, Change License Type, Sign In).[7] Minitab’s web apps (Statistical Software, Engage, Connect, Real-Time SPC, Model Ops and Education Hub) have no end-of-support date. The related desktop versions do: Minitab Statistical Software 22.4.x is supported until 2027-05-06, while support for 22.1.x to 22.3.x ended on 2026-09-10.[8]
Some products include AI features that are on by default for all users in a subscription. Administrators can switch them off under Application Settings.[1]
