The BeyondTrust perpetual licensing end of life is BeyondTrust’s retirement of perpetual software licences across its product portfolio in favour of SaaS and on-premises subscription licensing. BeyondTrust announced it on 2024-08-30. The retirement has two cut-off dates: the end of sale for perpetual add-on licences on 2025-12-31, and the end of life, meaning the end of maintenance and support, on 2026-12-31.[1] Six products are affected: AD Bridge, Endpoint Privilege Management for Windows & Mac, Endpoint Privilege Management for Unix & Linux, Remote Support, Password Safe and Privileged Remote Access. SaaS and on-premises subscription licences continue to be sold and supported.[1] The BeyondTrust EoS and EoL page summarises the change: “Perpetual licensing is retiring across all BeyondTrust products.”[2]
Editions
The retirement changes the licence type but not the product editions or units. After it, BeyondTrust offers two licence forms:
- On-Premise Software Subscription: a term licence to install software on computers owned or managed by the customer.[3]
- Cloud Services Subscription: access to the software over the internet as a service.[3]
All the affected products except AD Bridge have both SaaS and on-premises subscription offerings. AD Bridge is available only as an on-premises subscription.[1]
BeyondTrust defines the two lifecycle stages it uses. End of Sale is the date after which a product can no longer be bought. End of Life is the date after which updates, patches and support are no longer available.[2]
Metrics
The transition does not change how products are counted. Subscription Orders use the same Exhibit A units that perpetual Orders used, such as Active Login, Active Endpoints, Asset and Managed User and/or Managed Computer Object.[3] The quantities from a perpetual deployment therefore carry over directly into a subscription Order. A migration is a good time to check the deployed estate against those quantities. One case is the Remote Support ratio of 150 Jump Clients per concurrent licence, which has applied to all customers since 2025-01-01.[2]

Until the end of sale, customers could keep adding perpetual licences to existing perpetual deployments. After it, extra capacity had to be bought as subscription.[1] Maintenance renewals continue under current contracts until 2026-12-31. If a deployment’s renewal anniversary falls before that date, the renewal can be extended to the end-of-life date. Any contracts still outstanding on that date are terminated.[1] The FAQ states that after 2027 perpetually licensed products continue to function without interruption, but BeyondTrust no longer supports them. That means no future software versions and no access to the Technical Account and Support Teams.[1]
Contract terms that still apply to perpetual licences
The Software License and Subscription Agreement keeps an Appendix 1 for customers who continue to own perpetual licences up to December 2026. The appendix does not apply to subscriptions.[3] Under Appendix 1:
- A perpetual licence starts on delivery or download availability and continues until the licence or the agreement is terminated. Any perpetual licence also ends if the agreement ends.[3]
- The Support Term renews automatically for one-year periods at BeyondTrust’s then-current rates, unless either party gives notice at least 30 days before expiry.[3]
- A customer who lets support lapse and later reinstates it must pay all the support fees it would have paid had support continued without a break, plus the fees for the next Support Term.[3]
- If software is withdrawn for intellectual property infringement, the refund is the licence fee less depreciation of one third per year.[3]
For on-premises Password Safe and BeyondInsight, the documentation describes the technical effect of an expired licence key: the console stays available, but product updates are no longer provided.[10]
Virtualization & partitioning
The retirement notice contains no virtualization or partitioning rules. Subscription Orders limit use to the deployed Instances, Assets, physical and virtual machines and locations in the Order, as the agreement does for every subscription.[3]
Cloud / BYOL
BeyondTrust presents SaaS as the preferred migration path. It cites continuous access to new features, security updates and reduced in-house infrastructure effort.[1] Customers can choose SaaS licensing or on-premises subscription licensing. Migration services are delivered by BeyondTrust or by certified partners, and may not be needed, depending on the path chosen.[1] Integrations, such as the ServiceNow integration for Remote Support, work the same way on-premises and in SaaS, though basic configuration updates may be required.[1]
Programs
Support in the subscription model
In a subscription, Support Services are part of the Subscription and last for the rest of the Subscription Term.[3] The initial term is the one stated in the Order, or one year if the Order is silent. It renews automatically for one-year periods unless either party gives 30 days’ notice. When a Subscription Term ends, use must stop.[3] The Customer Support Guide requires a valid maintenance contract for support.[4]
Product Support Life Cycle
Where customers control the deployed version, BeyondTrust supports each major version for two years from its initial release. It follows a fix-forward approach and makes commercially reasonable efforts to patch critical vulnerabilities in versions still inside that window. It does not patch or update versions outside it.[5] The EoS and EoL page applies this two-year rule to Remote Support and Privileged Remote Access major versions, such as 24.1.1, and advises upgrading within two years.[2]
Appliance end of life
The retirement of perpetual licences coincides with end-of-life dates for BeyondTrust’s appliances:
| Appliance | End of sale | End of life | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| B200 (b.200.9) | 2023-03-31 | 2026-12-31 | Last supported version 26.1 |
| B300 (b.300.5) | 2024-01-01 | 2026-12-31 | Last supported version 26.1 |
| U-Series UVM 2016 (hardware) | 2024-01-01 | 2025-12-31 | Replacements include Password Safe Cloud and virtual appliances |
| U-Series UVM 2016 VA | 2022-12-20 | 2026-12-31 |
Sources for the table: the B-Series and U-Series EoS and EoL pages.[6][7] With current maintenance, B Series hardware support covers repair and replacement for up to two years, and replacements are limited to a virtual appliance. Migration services are not covered by maintenance contracts.[6]
Earlier product retirements
BeyondTrust has retired products before in the same way, with an announcement, a period for add-ons and renewals, and a termination date:
- Privileged Identity, including Bomgar Privileged Identity, Lieberman RED Identity Management and Lieberman ERPM, was announced as end of life on 2023-03-31 and reached end of life on 2025-03-31. Renewals falling inside the period were honoured, and outstanding contracts were terminated on the end-of-life date. Password Safe is the replacement.[8]
- PowerBroker for Windows was announced as end of life on 2021-08-13, with support for existing customers through 2023-12-31. Privilege Management for Windows and Mac is the replacement.[9]
Out of scope
This article does not cover subscription pricing, the promotional migration pricing that BeyondTrust mentions without publishing, or credits for unused perpetual maintenance. BeyondTrust publishes no terms for these.[1] It also does not cover end-of-life dates for individual software versions beyond the two-year rule.
