Alteryx One is the platform under which Alteryx has sold its analytics products since 2025. Customers buy an edition (Starter, Professional or Enterprise), assign user roles, and size a pool of automation runs. Alteryx calls these the three controls of its pricing model.[1] The pricing FAQ says the platform “shifts from purchasing individual products and infrastructure components to a unified platform approach”. Instead of “buying separate Designer seats and Server cores”, customers choose an edition, assign roles and size automation capacity.[1] The help documentation states that its edition pages apply to “new Alteryx One Editions launched in May 2025”. Accounts purchased earlier are covered only once they have migrated.[2] The counting model mixes named user licensing, through the user roles, with prepaid capacity, through the automation runs.

The pricing page’s comparison table lists Starter as “Basic Users Only”.[1] The help documentation instead says that Starter accounts “only have access to the Full User role with a limit of 10 users on the account” and that “There is no Basic User in the Starter Edition”.[2][5] The 10-user limit is the same in both. Whatever the role is called, Starter users get only the limited Starter toolset: basic prep and blend tools in Designer Cloud and connections to flat files.[6] Catalog: Starter Edition is limited to 10 Full Users.
Enterprise is the only edition with on-premises Alteryx Server, private storage and processing, and advanced security and governance.[2] The pricing page lists Alteryx Server and analytic apps only for Enterprise. It also says Enterprise “Includes free viewer licenses”.[1] Catalog SKUs: Starter, Professional, Enterprise.
Add-ons. Add-ons are available to Professional and Enterprise. Examples are third-party Data Packages (Business Insights and Location Insights for several countries; each capability “has a dedicated user type”) and additional automation runs.[2] The pricing page also lists “Additional Automation Capacity”, “Data Packages” and professional services as flexible add-ons for those editions.[1] Catalog: Additional Automation Capacity; Data Packages.
Metrics
- Full User (catalog). The Full User role is available in all three editions, gives access to advanced capabilities and to add-ons that have been purchased, and has no Admin privileges.[3]
- Basic User (catalog). Available in Professional and Enterprise, with “a limited set of prep and blend tools and data connections”.[3]
- Viewer (catalog). Only in Enterprise. Viewers can view, run and schedule workflows shared with them, view reports and run Analytic Apps, but have limited ability to create or modify assets.[4]
- Automation run (catalog). “Automation runs include workflows, plans, and apps that are executed automatically through schedules, APIs, or viewer interactions.”[1]
Counting / floors
Roles are counted per person and are additive. If a user has more than one role, they get the highest privileges of each.[3] Workspace Admins and Account Admins “don’t require an entitlement”.[3] A person who only administers therefore does not use up a Full, Basic or Viewer role. Catalog: Workspace and Account Admins need no entitlement.
Unlimited Viewers. “Enterprise Edition accounts can have an unlimited number of Viewer users.”[4] Viewers do not need to be counted as a licence position. Workflows and apps they run do count as automation runs.[1] Catalog: Viewer users are unlimited but only in Enterprise Edition.
Basic Users and add-ons. The User Roles page says “Basic user roles don’t have access to add-ons”.[3] The Basic User page says the same.[5] The Editions page instead says that users “require a Full User or Basic User role to use add-ons”.[2] For a customer that buys an add-on such as a data package, the role pages suggest that the people who use it should be Full Users. Catalog: Basic Users cannot use add-ons.
Changing roles. Downgrading a user, for example from Full to Basic, can stop workflows that use advanced tools from running or being edited, and can pause or fail the user’s scheduled jobs. Upgrading keeps all of the user’s assets.[3] Reducing roles at renewal therefore needs a review of the schedules those users own.
Automation runs. Scheduled workflows, API-triggered workflows, scheduled plans and apps run by viewers count as automation runs. “Failed runs, validation runs, and design-time runs do not count as automation runs”, and manually clicking Run in Designer is given as an example of a run that does not count.[1] The capacity is shared across the organization. Customers on Server 25.1 and later can see aggregated usage in the Admin Console.[1] Catalog: Failed, validation and design-time runs do not count as automation runs.
Exceeding capacity. If usage exceeds the contracted amount, Alteryx says it will “continue supporting your business and work with you to align your subscription with your actual needs as adoption grows”.[1] No overage price or hard stop is published. The adjustment is negotiated, much like a true-up. Catalog: Usage above contracted automation capacity leads to a subscription adjustment.
Licensing desktop products through Alteryx One
From Designer and Server 2025.1, on-premises products can be licensed with Alteryx One, and “All license management happens in Alteryx One”. To license and download products, users need Admin, Full or Basic access, assigned by Workspace Admins.[9] Viewers therefore cannot license Designer. Catalog: Alteryx One licensing requires an Admin, Full or Basic role.
Customers that renew onto Alteryx One while still running Designer or Server 2024.2 or earlier must “migrate your license keys in the first 180 days following renewal to avoid access disruption”. The primary admin invites users, who can be bulk-loaded from the old licensing portal’s user list. Keys for older versions are then obtained from Alteryx One.[10] Downloading those older versions requires a Full, Basic or Admin role on Professional or Enterprise Edition.[10] Catalog: License keys must be migrated to Alteryx One within 180 days of renewal; Alteryx One transition.
Scheduling outside Server. Designer workflows can be scheduled in three places. Workspace Execution runs them in the cloud through Alteryx One, Alteryx Server runs them on the company’s server, and Designer with Desktop Automation runs them on the user’s own computer.[13] Professional Edition “doesn’t support direct licensing of Desktop Automation”. As a workaround, Alteryx issues Designer license keys, which are activated together with the Alteryx Desktop Automation add-on key. Desktop Automation is not yet compatible with Designer 2026.1.[12] Catalog: Professional Edition enables Desktop Automation through Designer license keys.
Virtualization & partitioning
The edition documentation does not count by host or core. Where Alteryx Server is included in Enterprise Edition, the Core-Based License rules of the License Metrics document still apply to Server installations licensed by key. These are covered in Alteryx Designer and Server license keys and activation.
Cloud / BYOL
The cloud products in all editions are governed by the Cloud and AI Terms. Under these terms the customer is responsible for all acts and omissions of users of the Cloud-Based Products. Unless the Order Form says otherwise, use in mainland China or Russia is at the customer’s sole risk and voids Alteryx’s SLA, warranty and support obligations for that use.[11] Alteryx states that it will not use Customer Content to train large language models.[11] Catalog: Cloud products are not supported in mainland China or Russia.
Programs
A 30-day free trial of Alteryx One is offered from the pricing page.[1] The legacy-to-edition mapping is the Alteryx One transition program. Designer-only customers generally move to Professional Edition, and Designer and Server customers to Enterprise Edition.[1]
