Workiva markets one platform for financial reporting, sustainability management and GRC. In licensing terms the platform is sold as solutions: a workspace has solutions enabled, such as XBRL and Filing, and the solutions available to its members determine which roles and features apply.[3] This article lists the solution families Workiva documents publicly, the roles that gate them, and the few commercial details that the public pages state. For the structure of organizations and workspaces see Workiva organizations, workspaces and roles.

SEC and financial reporting
Workiva’s SEC page says its software supports Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, 20-F, proxy statements and more, and that it integrates with the EDGAR Next dashboard so that a customer can file directly from the platform.[1] The Support Center lists the features used for SEC reporting as Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Certifications, Linking, XBRL and Filing.[2] Three roles control the filing end of the process. The Filing role can test and live file documents and generate XBRL. The XBRL role can access, edit and generate XBRL and submit test filings, but cannot live file. Section 16 Access can create, edit, manage and review Section 16 forms, and Section 16 Filer can file them.[3] A customer that wants fewer people able to file live should therefore review who holds the Filing and Section 16 Filer roles, not only who holds Editor. Catalog rows: SEC filing types and EDGAR Next; Solutions enable functionality in a workspace.
XBRL, iXBRL and ESEF
Workiva Report Tagging is presented as an XBRL platform that tags, converts and validates reports, with conversion support that spans ESG, ESEF, GAAP, EIOPA, EBA and other taxonomies.[4] It offers three block-note tagging approaches, FastTrack (InDesign with an Excel tagging template), TextSearch and HyperTagging, and it lists inspector access for auditors and EU-based data servers among its features.[4] For ESEF, the Support Center describes a cloud-based solution with integrated iXBRL tagging, review and validation and a one-click XHTML output with iXBRL.[5] Whether Report Tagging is licensed separately from the platform, or per report or entity, is not stated. Catalog row: Report Tagging taxonomies.
Corporate Regulatory Reporting
Corporate Regulatory Reporting prepares reports for government agencies. The Support Center states that what a workspace can prepare depends on “your company’s subscription”, and it names two subscriptions.[6]
| Subscription | Filings supported |
|---|---|
| US Corporate Controllership | US Bureau of Economic Analysis surveys (BE-11, BE-125, BE-577) and US Census Bureau Quarterly Financial Report and Quarterly Services Survey forms |
| Global Controllership | Public country-by-country reporting (CbCR) with the Australian Taxation Office and the European Commission |
A Workspace Owner configures the reports, the primary entity and any subsidiaries or foreign affiliates to include.[7] The article also lists planned additional BEA and Census forms that are not yet supported, so supported-form coverage should be re-read before a renewal.[6] Catalog rows: US Corporate Controllership; Global Controllership; US Corporate Controllership scope; Global Controllership scope.
Sustainability Reporting and Workiva Carbon
The Sustainability Reporting solution consists of Sustainability Explorer, Sustainability Program, a Data Collection spreadsheet and a Factbook spreadsheet. Only workspace members with the Sustainability reporting role can use Sustainability Explorer and Sustainability Program, and to update the collection and factbook spreadsheets a member needs Editor or Owner permissions to them and to their connected Wdata queries and tables.[8] The dependency on Wdata means that a sustainability workspace also draws on the Wdata quotas described in Wdata, Chains and Customize Workiva.
Workiva Carbon is a separate product line for carbon accounting. Its page describes scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions calculations, emissions factors across 240+ countries, territories and regions, and reporting under CSRD, ISSB, and California’s SB 253 and SB 261.[9] Workiva publishes no counting metric for Carbon, such as sites, emissions sources or data volume. Catalog rows: Sustainability Reporting solution; Workiva Carbon; Sustainability features need the Sustainability reporting role; Workiva Carbon emissions factors; Workiva Carbon disclosure frameworks.
Governance, risk and compliance
The GRC page names six solutions: SOX Compliance, IT Compliance, Internal Audit Management, Policy and Procedure Management, Enterprise Risk Management and Internal Controls Management.[10] The Support Center separates “Classic” and “Next Gen” Governance, Risk, and Compliance help sections, and the Workspace roles article states that GRC roles are available based on each GRC solution.[12][3] Audit management uses GRC features together with Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations and Linking.[11] Catalog rows: Workiva GRC solutions; GRC solution family.
Metrics
Workiva states no solution-specific licence metric in its public pages. The constructs a customer can count are the workspace solutions enabled, the members holding roles that gate each solution, and quotas shared with the data layer. The one stated commercial rule about users is the GRC FAQ answer: Workiva takes a value-based approach to pricing, offers “unlimited users”, and says the entire team and external auditors can be given access.[10] That statement applies to GRC solutions, and the same page does not extend it to financial reporting, sustainability or carbon. Catalog rows: Workspace solution; Workspace member (role-based user); GRC solutions have unlimited users.
Counting and floors
- GRC and external users. Unlimited GRC users do not remove the need to check roles, because GRC roles are available based on each GRC solution.[3]
- Custom Fields and GRC. The Customize Workiva add-on works across all solutions, except that Custom Fields are not available for GRC solutions.[14]
- Filings and entities. The Corporate Regulatory Reporting setup records a primary entity and subsidiaries or foreign affiliates, but the Support Center does not say whether subscription fees depend on the number of entities.[7]
- No public floors. The pricing page offers a demonstration and no price list, so minimums, entity bands and user tiers must come from the order form.[13]
Virtualization and partitioning
The solutions are cloud services; the partitioning unit is the workspace. Separate teams, for example Financial Reporting and SOX, are given separate workspaces, and solutions are enabled in each.[3] Cross-workspace data sharing is available, and the SEC page describes it as a way for corporate teams to collaborate across geographies.[1]
Cloud and BYOL
No bring-your-own-licence rule applies. Workiva describes regional features, such as EU-based data servers for Report Tagging, as part of the service.[4] Whether data residency is a separately priced option is not stated.
Programs
Public pages mention no solution-specific discount, bundle or promotion programme. Customize Workiva and Workiva AI are described as add-ons or enablements in the related articles. The Support Center points customers to Workiva’s training and enablement offerings in the Learning Hub, and it does not describe them as a separately licensed product.[2]
