Unity’s licence stack is wider than the Editor seat. A Unity Plan bundles one subscription to the designated Unity Software with Plan Benefits, which can include cloud storage, build capacity, support, Unity Toolkits, third-party software and rights to add on further Offerings, each under separate terms that may carry additional fees.[12][9] This article covers the parts of that stack that a licence manager typically finds outside the Editor seat count: the Industry plan, Unity Cloud, Build Server, source code access and Asset Store content.
Editions
Unity Industry
Unity Industry is the plan made specifically available to Industry Customers, meaning customers developing Projects for industrial use or any use that is not solely games or entertainment.[1] Unity’s product page lists what it includes: Unity 6, Unity Studio, the Unity Asset Transformer Toolkit (formerly the Pixyz Plugin), Unity Asset Manager, Build Server and an Industry Success plan, and says that standalone and floating licences are available through sales, with a 30-day free trial.[2] The product page shows USD 4,950 per seat per year, while the pricing page shows custom pricing for Industry.[2][6] The plan includes a 1:1 seat allocation of Unity Studio, and additional Studio seats are bought through sales.[2] The Industry Success plan provides Success Management, standard Tier 2 technical support, onboarding materials and On-Demand Training, scaling in coverage with seat count.[2]
The Industry Terms give the rights granted to Industry Customers, conditioned on compliance and payment:[1]
- install and execute the Software for internal use by the purchased number of Authorized Users;
- subject to fees and Unity’s express authorization, distribute the Runtime embedded in a Project to third parties who license or buy the Project;
- subject to fees and Unity’s express authorization, deploy or distribute Projects incorporating the Unity Software to non-Authorized Users, including employees, contractors and the personnel of direct affiliates; and
- modify Industry Offering source code where it is provided as part of the plan, in accordance with the Editor Source Code Terms.
The Industry Terms were updated on 3 August 2026 to add the internal deployment grant, and they restrict Industry Customers from distributing or deploying a Project to non-Authorized Users for internal use without a separate grant of rights.[1] Unity’s FAQ states that commercial runtime distribution by Industry Customers is subject to a Distribution License fee that is generally equivalent to 4.0% of the revenue generated by the software product that incorporates the runtime.[2] The tier rules are in Unity Editor plans and tier eligibility.
Two further Industry terms are easy to miss. The Unity Asset Transformer software (PiXYZ) is protected by a digital key; with a node-locked subscription an Authorized User may request a new key no more than two times per calendar year because of a change of computer or operating system, attesting that the software is no longer used on the previous machine.[1] And custom Industry Plug-Ins and Viewer Apps that use Unity Materials may be created and distributed only for internal, non-commercial use.[1] The terms also state that the grants are intended for creators creating first-party content; service providers, platforms, agencies, systems integrators and resellers may need a separate grant of rights.[1]
Unity Enterprise add-ons
Unity Enterprise includes premium technical support and On-Demand Training from 20 seats, a Unity engineer to resolve prioritized bugs for backporting at 100 or more seats, Unity Source Code Access (read only) and three years of LTS updates.[3][6] Its Cloud entitlements include 120 GB of Unity Asset Manager storage per seat according to the Enterprise product page.[3]
Metrics
Unity Build Server licence
Unity Build Server is used to manage use of the Unity Software on a specified number of concurrent Machines for generating builds, and a Machine is a computer, virtual computer, cloud instance or API connection that checks Build Server licences out of a shared pool.[9] The subscription tier must match the tier of the Editor used to create the Projects, and it may not be used with Unity Personal.[9] Twenty Enterprise seats come with ten Build Server licences, five more are included with each additional 20 seats up to a maximum of 30, and additional licences can be bought.[3] A separate arrangement, the Build License, includes one Unity Pro subscription that may be installed on up to ten internal build machines for publishing and distributing, but not creating, Projects, and a separate Build Server subscription is still needed to use Build Server.[9]
Unity Version Control on-prem seat
An on-prem Unity Version Control subscription is configured by Unity and may be used by one Authorized User on one computer, with the client-side module installable on a second computer for the same user; additional copies of the client and server modules may be made if the number of Authorized Users does not exceed the number authorized.[4] The pricing page lists on-prem seats at USD 38 per seat.[6]
Unity DevOps cloud consumption
Unity Version Control in the public cloud and Unity Build Automation are metered rather than seat-licensed. Unity announced that from 1 March 2026 there are no per-seat charges for DevOps cloud seats, with the earlier limit of three free seats for Personal users becoming unlimited and the 1:1 seat limit for Pro, Enterprise and Industry removed.[5] Storage and egress are measured in GB instead of GB-hours, with storage averaged over the month, and only external downloads count as egress; uploads and traffic between Unity services are not charged.[5] The pricing page lists, for every plan, 25 GB of standard storage and 100 GB of egress included per month, standard storage at USD 0.10 per GB from 25 to 100 GB and USD 0.06 per GB above 100 GB, egress at USD 0.10 per GB, an included allowance of 200 Windows (Micro), 100 Linux (Micro) and 100 Mac (Standard) minutes, two included units of Unity Editor Concurrency and additional concurrency at USD 10 per month.[6]
Free-tier limits are enforced. Unity states that crossing a free-tier limit blocks access immediately until a credit card is added, with notifications at 50%, 75%, 90% and 100% of consumption.[5] Unity’s DevOps documentation adds that without an upgrade the project remains readable but its cloud storage data is deleted after 30 days.[10] The Cloud Additional Terms allow Unity to charge on a consumption basis when rates, capacities or storage limits are exceeded, and to charge additional fees or disable access when fair usage limits are exceeded.[4]
Unity AI credit allowance
Unity’s pricing page lists a monthly credit allowance for Unity’s AI tools per plan (1,000 for Personal, 2,000 for Pro, 3,000 for Enterprise) and states that special terms apply to Unity Credits.[6] The Terms of Service make a customer responsible for any AI agent, MCP client or other automated caller that uses its account and restrict automated access to Unity Offerings other than through a framework operated or designated by Unity.[12] See generative AI licensing for the general topic.
Asset licence
Assets bought from the Unity Asset Store are licensed per END-USER, perpetually, under the Asset Store EULA, described in the Counting section below.[8]
Counting / floors
Asset Store EULA
For Assets that are not Restricted Assets, the licensor grants a non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide and perpetual licence to incorporate the Asset together with substantial original content into a Licensed Product as an embedded component, to distribute it as so embedded, to include it in marketing material and to monetize it within the Licensed Product.[8] The Asset may not comprise a substantial portion of the Licensed Product.[8] The licence may be installed on an unlimited number of computers that belong to the END-USER, except for Extension Assets, and a “multi-entity” tier extends the grant to affiliates.[8] Prohibited uses include sharing the purchase price with third parties who then use the Asset (forum pooling), enabling users of a Licensed Product to resell the Asset, monetizing an Asset in a product whose primary purpose is user-generated content without authorization, and using the Asset Store or Assets to train an AI or machine learning model without the Provider’s or Unity’s consent.[8] Restricted Assets follow their own terms where they differ from the EULA.[8] The EULA also permits only incidental copies and a single backup copy of an Asset.[8]
Source code access
Unity Source Code Access has two forms. With Read Only access the customer may internally access and review the source for understanding and troubleshooting the Editor and, with Unity’s authorization, create limited Modifications to debug the Editor that are not published with a Project. With Full Access the customer may use, reproduce and modify the source to create Modifications for creating, publishing and distributing its Projects for Unity Supported Platforms, and Full Access may not be available to all users.[7] Key conditions are:[7]
- no use to port to a Platform that is not a Unity Supported Platform without Unity’s written consent;
- no use to create, train or improve a competing engine, SDK, API or AI model, and no pasting of source code into agentic access, a coding assistant or an AI agent;
- the customer assigns all right, title and interest in Modifications it creates to Unity and must deliver them on request;
- access is limited to Designated Developer Employees on dedicated customer-owned computers, reviewed at least quarterly, and security incidents must be notified within 24 hours, with a financial penalty of USD 50,000 per day or partial day of delay; and
- on a good-faith belief of breach, Unity may require access only within a clean room environment.
Other grants
Unity Toolkits come with a right to use, and if source is provided to modify, the toolkit only with the Unity Software, with modifications distributable in binary form as a component but not the primary functionality of a Project.[9] The HMI Platform Deployment feature allows embedding the Runtime into a stated number of devices or systems, including vehicles, to power their human machine interface, and a third party whose interface is powered must itself buy the feature.[9] Unity’s Professional Artistry terms license the Ziva software for a fixed five-year period from 2 April 2024 to 31 March 2029, with library assets licensed perpetually for embedding in a Licensed Production.[11]
Virtualization & partitioning
Cloud-hosted use of Unity tools is controlled by both the Editor and the Cloud terms. The Editor may not be offered to others through any cloud or SaaS arrangement without a separate grant, while Build Server Machines may include virtual computers and cloud instances so long as the concurrent Machine count is within the purchased allotment.[9] The Cloud terms note that Unity Cloud Offerings include Unity Studio, whose hosting bandwidth for Studio apps is priced separately at USD 0.50 per GB on the pricing page.[4][6]
Cloud / BYOL
Cloud Plans are subscriptions that include Unity Cloud Offerings and plan benefits, and the fee for a Cloud Plan excludes metered usage of individual offerings within the plan.[4] Unity states that the rate of a Unity Plan, a Cloud Plan and any bundling may change at its sole discretion, and that an additional Cloud Plan will not be bundled with a Unity Plan unless Unity agrees.[4] Organizations should therefore keep the Offering Identification for each plan, since entitlements such as storage per seat can change without a new contract.
Programs
Unity runs partner programmes for Industry, including a Service Partner Program, an Independent Software Vendor Program and a Reseller Partner Program, for organizations that deliver services or build Unity-based commercial solutions.[2] These sit alongside the standard terms rather than replacing them: the Industry Terms expect those that are not first-party creators to obtain a separate grant.[1] The free DevOps tier and the Industry trial are described above.
Out of scope
This article does not cover Unity Ads, the In-App Purchase service, Unity Gaming Services pricing, consulting and success services terms or the learning and community terms, which are separate Additional Terms listed on Unity’s terms index.[13] Prices quoted come from Unity’s pages as retrieved and may differ for customers on negotiated agreements.
