Worry-Free is Trend Micro’s security line for small businesses, sold as the on-premises Worry-Free Business Security (Standard and Advanced) and the SaaS Worry-Free Business Security Services, together with suites that add email, collaboration and XDR protection. A Worry-Free Business Security Services purchase includes a licence for the product and a standard Maintenance Agreement, which the documentation describes as the contract governing the right to technical support and product updates in return for the applicable fees.[1] Worry-Free, like Apex One and Deep Security, is activated with a Registration Key and an Activation Code, and licences are tracked in the Customer Licensing Portal or, for customers moved to the platform, in Trend Vision One License Information.[5][4] This article covers both: the Worry-Free licensing model and the registration mechanics shared across Trend’s seat-based products.
Editions
Trend’s Worry-Free suites page describes four levels.[8]
| Offering | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Worry-Free Services | Cloud-managed endpoint and mobile protection for Windows, Mac, mobile devices and Chromebooks |
| Worry-Free Services Advanced | Worry-Free Services plus email and collaboration protection (Email Security Standard and Cloud App Security) |
| Worry-Free XDR | Worry-Free Services Advanced, Email Security Advanced and Endpoint Sensor, with cross-layer detection and response |
| Worry-Free with Managed XDR / Co-Managed XDR | Worry-Free XDR plus 24/7 managed detection and response by Trend; the Co-Managed variant is for managed service providers |
The on-premises Worry-Free Business Security Standard/Advanced 10.0 SP1 is shown in the supported products list with End-of-Sale in Australia and New Zealand on 2022-07-01; the Japanese Worry-Free Business Security Standard reached End-of-Sale on 2024-03-31 and End-of-Life on 2026-03-31.[9] Worry-Free Business Security Services remains on the supported list with no End-of-Sale date.[9]
Metrics
Worry-Free is licensed by Seat. The WFBS-SVC licence status reports “Seat Count Usage”, the number of computers activated with the licence.[2] The Worry-Free product page does not state whether a seat is a user or a device; the support articles count activated computers.[2]
Counting / floors
Seat usage
WFBS-SVC shows seat usage as green when normal, yellow when usage is greater than 100% of licensed seats and red when greater than 110% (rule).[2] The status levels show that activations above the licensed seat count are possible, so the console count has to be compared with the Capacity on the Certificate. The GPA requires a true-up for any use above Capacity.[10] Additional seats are added in the console with +Provide Key and a new Activation Code or product key.[3]
Licence versus Maintenance
A Trend software licence usually includes product updates, pattern file updates and basic technical support for one year from the date of purchase, after which the Maintenance Agreement is renewed annually at then-current maintenance fees.[1] The documentation states that “The Maintenance Agreement expires, but your License Agreement does not” (rule).[1] The effect of each licence state is:[1]
| Feature | Fully licensed | Evaluation (30 days) | Expired |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expiration notification | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Component updates | Yes | Yes | No |
| Program updates | Yes | Yes | No |
| Technical support | Yes | No | No |
| Real-time scan | Yes | Yes | Yes, with outdated components |
When a full Activation Code expires, configurations and settings remain in force; a full version is renewed by buying a maintenance renewal.[1] WFBS-SVC flags licences in yellow when a full licence has less than 60 days to run, or a trial less than 14 days.[2] Registered customers receive email notices at least 60 days before maintenance expires.[5]
Registration Keys and Activation Codes
Trend uses two kinds of key (rule):[5]
- Registration Key (RK). Sent by email on purchase and used to register the product and obtain an Activation Code. It has two letters followed by four groups of four digits, 22 characters with hyphens (for example PC-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX). It cannot activate the product.
- Activation Code (AC). Activates the product. It has two letters, four numbers and five groups of five numbers, 37 characters with hyphens. Without an Activation Code the product still installs, but its update and scanning features are disabled.
For Worry-Free Business Security Services the formats are wf-xxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx (Registration Key) and a 37-character wf- Activation Code, registered at clp.trendmicro.com.[1] Activation Codes are tied to the licence and maintenance period, typically one year, and remain valid for as long as licence and maintenance are renewed. Online customers keep the same full Activation Code across upgrades and renewals; offline customers need a new Activation Code at each renewal.[5] A trial Registration Key generates a trial Activation Code.[5]
The replacement procedure for lost or stolen codes is described in the registration FAQ.[5]
Customer Licensing Portal
The Customer Licensing Portal (CLP) is where customers register Registration Keys and Activation Codes, manage products and licences under Products/Services, and merge licences.[6] Registering a key requires accepting the Trend Micro License Agreement in the portal.[6] The merge function applies only to products that support it: for SaaS services such as WFBS-SVC two accounts are merged, and for on-premises products such as Worry-Free Business Security the customer chooses which licence to keep.[6] The CLP activation steps now apply to licences not linked to Trend Vision One, such as Worry-Free Business Security Services; new enterprise products are activated in the Vision One console.[7]
Virtualization & partitioning
The Worry-Free documents cited here contain no virtualisation rules; each computer activated with the licence counts toward Seat Count Usage.[2]
Cloud / BYOL
Worry-Free Business Security Services is SaaS with regional consoles for North America and other regions and for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.[4]
Programs
Vision One integration of Worry-Free Services
From 2024-10-14, Worry-Free Business Security Services accounts are being integrated with Trend Vision One. The changes relevant to licence management are (rule):[4]
- The Vision One Administration > License Information app replaces the Customer Licensing Portal for managing product licences.
- Provisioning Vision One requires a Primary User Account, which becomes the sign-in for Vision One, the Worry-Free console and the CLP; there is one Primary User Account per Business Name, and roll-back to the previous account is not possible.
- Self-managed customers activating new Worry-Free Business Security Services and EDR Add-on licences receive an Activation Link instead of a Registration Key.
- Several Worry-Free licences can be activated under one Primary User Account. Each Worry-Free licence provisions one Worry-Free instance, and an EDR Add-on licence must be assigned to a specific instance.
- Up to 50 Worry-Free local user accounts may exist in total across all instances under a Business Name.
In Vision One, licences are registered in License Information with an Activation Code or Registration Key.[11] For licence records, the Business Name and its instances become the unit to reconcile: one Certificate may create several instances, and seat counts must be read per instance.
Managed service providers
The GPA prohibits using Products to provide services to third parties, including as a service bureau.[10] Trend’s Worry-Free suites page lists a Co-Managed XDR offering for managed service providers and cross-customer management through Trend Micro Remote Manager; managed service offerings for clients are therefore a separate route from the end-customer licence.[8]
Out of scope
Worry-Free prices are not published on the vendor’s suites page, which directs buyers to request pricing. Consumer products are licensed under separate consumer terms.[10]
