LastPass is a hosted password manager and access-management service. It is licensed as a subscription to the service, not as installed software: an organisation or individual pays for a set number of user accounts for a term, normally a year, and the users store credentials in an encrypted vault and, on the business plans, are managed through an Admin Console. The pricing page describes LastPass as a zero-knowledge service with AES-256 local encryption, and lists the same vault, autofill, sharing, password generator, dark web monitoring, security dashboard and multifactor authentication features as “included in every LastPass plan”.[3] Licensing questions therefore turn on who is counted as a user, which plan tier carries which features, and how renewal and upgrades are handled.
LastPass publishes two separate agreements. Direct purchases for business use are governed by the Terms of Service for Business Customers, and the Free, Premium and Families versions by the Terms of Service for Personal Use; purchases through authorised partners are noted separately on the legal centre page.[1]
Editions
The pricing page, loaded in a browser on 2026-10-08 and served in euros, listed the following plans.[3]
| Audience | Plan | Price shown (billed annually) | Users |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business | Teams | EUR 4.42 per user per month | Up to 50 |
| Business | Business | EUR 6.50 per user per month | Unlimited |
| Business | Business Max | EUR 10.00 per user per month | Unlimited |
| Personal | Premium | EUR 2.90 per month | 1 |
| Personal | Families | EUR 3.90 per month | 6 |
| Personal | Plus | EUR 6.50 per month | 1 |
| Personal | Free | Free | 1 |
Amounts shown depend on the visitor’s location and promotions, and the static page carries price placeholders that are filled in by the page script, so the table illustrates structure rather than a global price list. The page states that applicable taxes are applied at checkout and that promotional pricing may not apply to current customers.[3]
Business is described as including everything in Teams plus more than 100 advanced security policies, group user management and LastPass Families for employees. Business Max adds AI, SaaS and Web Monitoring and Protect, an unlimited number of SSO apps and advanced MFA capabilities.[3] The Help Center lists Advanced SSO and Advanced MFA among the “extra features included in LastPass Business Max over the base LastPass Business plan”, while the MSP billing report still shows Advanced MFA and Advanced SSO as paid add-ons per managed company.[5] [8]
Metrics
The metric across business plans is the user licence. The Help Center states that while Teams is limited to 50 licences, Business can have an unlimited number.[4] Rows: Teams user licence, Business user licence and Business Max user licence. A related limit is the number of SSO applications, three on Business and unlimited on Business Max (SSO app limit).[5]
Personal plans are measured per account: Premium account (1 user), Families account (6 users) and Plus account (1 user, with VPN for up to 10 devices on Windows).[3] The Free plan is limited by device type rather than users: it includes access on unlimited devices of one type, computer or mobile.[9] See Free plan device type.
A bundled entitlement links business and personal licensing: under Families as a Benefit, an organisation gives each Business or Business Max user a complimentary Families account that is a personal account with 5 additional licences, counted in Families as a Benefit licence.[7]
Counting and floors
- One person per account. Both agreements state that individual user accounts may not be shared amongst multiple individuals.[1] [2]
- True-up by review. LastPass may periodically review an account and charge additional fees if the number of users exceeds the purchased quantity, a clause present in both the business and personal terms.[1] [2]
- Unused licences still renew. All licences purchased for Teams or Business renew at the annual renewal date, including licences not in use, so right-sizing must happen before renewal.[6]
- Teams ceiling. Teams is limited to 50 users; larger organisations need Business or Business Max.[3]
Virtualization and partitioning
Not applicable: the service is hosted, with browser extensions, mobile apps and an Admin Console that count users rather than devices or processors. The only device-based limit is the Free plan’s one-device-type rule.[9]
Cloud and BYOL
Not applicable; there is no bring-your-own-licence right. Business customers can integrate directory services and identity providers, which affects provisioning but not the licence count.[3]
Programs
- Auto-renewing term. After the Initial Term, business subscriptions renew for 12 month Renewal Terms unless the Order says otherwise or either party gives notice at least 30 days before expiry.[1] See Auto-renewing Renewal Term (Business).
- Trials. The FAQ gives 30 days for personal plans and 14 days for business plans; on completion the customer can buy an annual subscription, and a Free user keeps stored data but loses paid features.[3] See Free trial.
- No refunds. Subscriptions are prepaid; cancelling means the subscription expires at the end of the billing period with no refund.[10]
- MSP programme. Managed service providers have a primary MSP account and managed companies, with consumed licences and add-ons reported daily.[8] See MSP licence programme.
Practical points for asset managers
The count that matters is the Admin Console’s figures for valid licences, licences in use and users. The Help Center lists these on the purchase page, and a renewal reduces cost only if the licence quantity is cut before the renewal date through LastPass Support.[4] [6] Employees may also hold personal Free, Premium or Families accounts, including Families as a Benefit accounts, that sit outside the corporate subscription and are the individual’s own.
Out of scope
This article does not cover LastPass security architecture, security incidents or data protection compliance, the LastPass Authenticator app as a separate product, or reseller and partner pricing. Litigation relating to security incidents is outside the scope of this licensing coverage.
