Kinaxis Maestro is the supply chain planning and decision platform sold by Kinaxis. The Kinaxis website describes it as “formerly known as RapidResponse” and as an end-to-end supply chain orchestration platform that combines machine learning, optimization and heuristics.[1] Kinaxis introduced the Maestro name on 2024-06-18 at its Kinexions customer conference, describing Maestro as the next evolution of RapidResponse.[2] Because older Kinaxis material, certification pages and customer contracts still use the RapidResponse name, a licence manager reading an Order Form may meet either name for the same subscription. This article describes the product structure Kinaxis shows publicly. It does not describe the commercial terms, which are covered in Kinaxis subscription contracts and term licences.
Editions
Kinaxis does not name editions of Maestro such as Standard or Enterprise. What it shows is a platform, a set of planning applications that run on it, a packaged entry offer and several extensibility and AI components.
Platform
The Maestro page lists three platform layers: a supply chain data fabric that connects and contextualizes internal and external data sources, an intelligence engine described as an always-on computational engine, and a user experience layer.[1] A newer platform page describes a “composable framework” of eight building blocks: multimodal data, semantic intelligence, decisioning, a democratized experience, an AI runtime, security and governance, orchestration and learning.[3] The same page presents concurrency, the technique by which the platform keeps plans and decisions synchronized, as its foundation.[3] None of these pages says that any layer is separately licensed.
Applications
Kinaxis presents its planning applications as a set that customers combine on one platform. The applications page describes bringing sales and operations, demand, inventory, supply, capacity and machine learning processes into one software solution.[4] The Kinaxis solutions menu lists AI agents, control tower, demand, forward deployed engineering, inventory, mid-market Planning One, order management, returns, sales and operations planning, scheduling, supply, supply chain optimization, supply chain orchestration, spare parts, sustainability, tariffs and transportation.[4] The Kinaxis learning paths show another view of the same catalogue: for contributors they group courses under sales and operations planning applications (sales and operations planning, aggregate supply planning, demand planning and statistical forecasting, multiple linear regression), inventory management applications (inventory management, distribution requirements planning, inventory planning and optimization, self-healing supply chain) and other applications (capacity planning with constraints, order fulfillment, master production scheduling).[8]
The number of applications deployed is a pricing input in Kinaxis filings, which state that the subscription fee generally depends on “the number of applications deployed”.[10] The public pages do not say how an application is delimited, so the customer’s own contract documents, which include an Order Form, are the authoritative entitlement.[11] See Applications deployed.
Planning One
Planning One is a packaged offering aimed at mid-sized and emerging enterprises. Kinaxis describes it as bringing essential planning capabilities together, with concurrent planning across demand, supply, inventory and operations.[5] The page says customers can get started with Kinaxis RapidStart or a certified partner approach using preconfigured models, and that the foundation can be extended into more advanced capabilities over time without replatforming.[5] The page does not publish a bill of materials, a user limit or a price. See Planning One.
Solver Studio and Advanced Solver Studio
Maestro Solver Studio lets technical teams extend Maestro with custom heuristics, optimization and machine learning models connected to the customer’s supply chain data and scenarios.[6] The page presents Advanced Solver Studio as adding Gurobi-powered optimization for complex, constraint-heavy decisions, with results returned to Maestro as calculated outputs.[6] The page does not say whether Solver Studio or the Gurobi component is part of a base subscription, a separate subscription or a services engagement, and it does not describe any separate licence from Gurobi. Both questions fall to the customer’s contract documents. See Maestro Advanced Solver Studio.
Partner Solution Extensions
The Kinaxis partners page lists five partner types: system integrator, solution extension, cloud, value added reseller and referral.[7] Solution Extension partners build Kinaxis-certified applications and algorithms that extend Maestro, and the page invites customers to “View all apps”.[7] The Maestro page also describes a developer studio for building, certifying and licensing applications.[1] Public pages do not state how a partner application is priced or whether it needs a separate agreement with the partner, so asset managers should treat each Solution Extension as a separate contract until shown otherwise. See Partner program.
Metrics
The public sources name five pricing inputs, and none defines them: the number of users, the number of applications, the number of licensed manufacturing, distribution and inventory sites, the environments requested, and the size of the customer.[9][10] The learning paths describe four roles (Consumer, Contributor, Author and Administrator). A Consumer views reports and dashboards and edits data in shared scenarios; a Contributor solves business issues through simulation and collaboration; an Author creates and modifies Maestro resources such as worksheets, dashboards and alerts; an Administrator supports and maintains Maestro systems, users and data.[8] Kinaxis does not say that these roles are licence categories. The catalogue row Subscription users records the position.
Counting and floors
No counting rule, minimum or rounding rule is published for any of the five inputs. Quantities are not public; the Trust Center says only that an Order Form supports the SaaS Agreement.[11] The same filings that name the inputs date from 2018, and Kinaxis has since renamed the product and added AI capabilities, so the inputs are best read as the basis of historical pricing and not as the present metric definitions.
Virtualization and partitioning
Not applicable to the SaaS delivery described on the Kinaxis Trust Center, which describes Maestro as a single-tenant SaaS model delivered by Kinaxis.[11] Kinaxis certification materials also refer to Maestro in both On-Demand and On-Premises environments, which indicates that an on-premise deployment option exists for some customers, but no installation, partitioning or virtualization policy is published.[13]
Cloud and BYOL
No bring-your-own-licence option is published. Hosting is arranged by Kinaxis, as covered in Kinaxis hosting, data processing and services.
Programs
- RapidStart. Kinaxis describes RapidStart combined with ready-to-configure Maestro as a path to supply chain transformation in 12 weeks, deployed almost entirely remotely.[12]
- Certified partner approach. Planning One may be started through a certified partner as an alternative to RapidStart.[5]
- Certification. Kinaxis certifies users along Administrator, Author and Contributor paths.[13]
Out of scope
- The Order Form, SaaS Agreement and application schedules, which are not public.
- Prices and discounts. Kinaxis publishes no price list.
- Maestro Agents and Maestro Agent Studio, covered in Kinaxis Maestro Agents and AI licensing.
- Gurobi and other third-party optimization products used by partners, which have their own terms.
- Legacy RapidResponse versions and on-premise installation requirements, for which no licensing document is published.
