Guidewire InsuranceSuite and InsuranceNow are Guidewire’s two core operational products for property and casualty (P&C) insurers. Guidewire describes them as transactional systems of record that fully support insurance operations: product definition, pricing and rating, underwriting, policy administration, billing and claims management.[1] Most new sales and implementations are for InsuranceSuite.[1] This article explains what is licensed, how the applications are packaged, which metric prices them and where the public documents stop.
Editions and applications
InsuranceSuite is not an edition ladder. It is a set of applications. Guidewire says InsuranceSuite is primarily composed of five core applications (PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter, BillingCenter, PricingCenter and UnderwritingCenter) that can be subscribed to separately or together.[1] Its product page says the same in different words: the applications are available both individually and as a bundled solution.[2]
| Application | Function as Guidewire describes it | Catalog SKU |
|---|---|---|
| PolicyCenter | Underwriting and policy administration across the policy lifecycle: product definition, underwriting, quoting, binding, issuance, endorsements, audits, cancellations and renewals[1] | Guidewire PolicyCenter (subscription) |
| ClaimCenter | End-to-end claims management and servicing[1] | Guidewire ClaimCenter (subscription) |
| BillingCenter | Billing lifecycle, billing and payment plans, agent commissions and integration with payment systems[1] | Guidewire BillingCenter (subscription) |
| PricingCenter | Integrated pricing and rating engine for pricing strategy and rate changes across products, channels and regions[1] | Guidewire PricingCenter (subscription) |
| UnderwritingCenter | Agentic, AI-powered underwriting application from intake to bind[1] | Guidewire UnderwritingCenter (subscription) |
InsuranceNow is a separate product, not a tier of InsuranceSuite. It is a cloud-based application offering policy administration, claims management and billing, plus pre-integrated document production, analytics and other capabilities, in a single bundled software service.[1] The catalog row is Guidewire InsuranceNow (subscription).
Applications included with the core
Guidewire says it offers complementary capabilities and applications, some of which are included in the core operational services and products.[1] The annual report names Rating Management, Reinsurance Management, Client Data Management, Advanced Product Designer, Product Content Management and ProNavigator in that group, but it does not say which are included and which are separately priced.[1] A few inclusions are stated elsewhere. Canvas and Compare are included with ClaimCenter, and Guidewire’s Compare page says it is free to use with ClaimCenter.[3] InsuranceSuite EasyGuide, a help tool that embeds training materials in InsuranceSuite, is included with any InsuranceSuite subscription.[4] Guidewire Digital is included with InsuranceSuite on Guidewire Cloud and can be licensed separately for self-managed implementations.[5]
The practical consequence is that an order form should list inclusions explicitly. An application described as included on a Guidewire web page can still be absent from a negotiated contract, and the 10-K says negotiated terms can differ from standard terms.[1]
Metrics
Both products are priced on premium. Guidewire states that it generally prices its subscription services for core products on the amount of Direct Written Premium (DWP) managed on its platform.[1] The catalog metric is Direct Written Premium (DWP). Variable instalments under subscriptions and self-managed licences are generally subject to changes in a customer’s DWP or Gross Written Premium, recorded as Gross Written Premium (GWP).[1]
The 10-K uses both terms without defining them, so contract definitions matter. Questions an order form should answer include whether premium is measured when written or when earned, whether reinsurance assumed or ceded is included, whether policies written through managing general agents count, and how the measure is certified.
Counting and floors
Guidewire publishes no floors. It does publish a comparison table that positions the two products by customer size:
| Criterion | InsuranceSuite | InsuranceNow |
|---|---|---|
| Geography | Global availability | United States only on the comparison table[6] |
| Currency | Multi-currency | Single-currency[6] |
| Language | Multi-language | English only, with multi-language documents supported[6] |
| DWP | Typically $300M and above, but with customers below $100M | Typically $300M and below, but with customers above $1B[6] |
The 10-K describes InsuranceNow as currently available only in the United States and Canada and generally suited to mid-market carriers and managing general agents.[1] Note that the comparison table says United States only, while the 10-K says United States and Canada. The table says the DWP figures are typical, not required. Customers sit on both sides of the bands, so the bands should not be used to infer pricing tiers or minimums. The relevant rules are Guidewire positions InsuranceSuite and InsuranceNow by customer DWP and InsuranceNow is available only in the United States and Canada.
Guidewire’s 10-K also notes that billing generally occurs annually in advance and that annual billing may ramp over the contract period.[1] A subscription whose fee ramps has a first-year invoice that is not representative of the steady-state cost.
Virtualization and partitioning
The cited documents contain no rules on cores, processors, virtual machines or partitioning for either product. On Guidewire Cloud, customers use single-tenant environments managed through the Guidewire Cloud Home interface.[1] InsuranceNow is hosted on GWCP and managed by Guidewire’s cloud operations team, like InsuranceSuite.[1]
Cloud and self-managed
InsuranceSuite is available as a cloud service via Guidewire Cloud or as a self-managed application.[7] Guidewire’s own statement of its core operational products lists InsuranceSuite via Guidewire Cloud, InsuranceNow, and InsuranceSuite for self-managed installations.[8] InsuranceNow appears only in a hosted form in these documents. Some Guidewire capabilities exist only in the cloud: Integration Gateway, for example, is available for Guidewire Cloud only.[9] PricingCenter is described by Guidewire as cloud-native SaaS on Guidewire Cloud Platform with subscription pricing and no capital expenditure.[10] The article on self-managed licences and cloud migration covers the term-licence model and how customers move between the two.
InsuranceSuite cloud customers receive multiple releases each year, and many new capabilities arrive as options that customers choose when to adopt.[1] Guidewire’s migration page says Guidewire Cloud delivers automatic updates three times a year.[11]
Programs
| Program | Relevance |
|---|---|
| Guidewire Cloud Platform subscription | The commercial wrapper for InsuranceSuite and InsuranceNow: initial term generally five years, annual renewals thereafter[1] |
| Self-managed term licence | Self-managed InsuranceSuite, initial term generally two years[1] |
| Early Access Program | Early Access for ClaimCenter, PolicyCenter and InsuranceNow covers core services, digital and base features not yet generally available[12] |
| Guidewire Marketplace | Extensions are free to download; a partner service needs its own agreement[13] |
Early Access features are, by definition, not yet generally available, so a customer using them should confirm in writing what terms apply.[12]
Out of scope
This article does not cover list prices, because none is published, and it does not cover implementation services, which Guidewire says are generally billed on a time-and-materials basis.[1] It does not cover data and analytics products or Jutro-based digital applications beyond the inclusion statements above. Those are in Guidewire data, analytics and digital products licensing.
