Guidewire Cloud Platform subscriptions

This article is about the Guidewire Cloud Platform subscription model: terms, pricing basis, inclusions and consumption-priced resources. It is not about self-managed InsuranceSuite licences or Guidewire's data products.

On This Page

Guidewire Cloud Platform subscriptions are the way Guidewire now sells most of its software. The 10-K states that Guidewire sells its products primarily through subscription services for its platform and cloud-delivered products, and that subscription sales are expected to remain a significant majority of annual new sales.[1] In fiscal 2026, subscription revenue was about 62% of Guidewire’s total revenue, against about 56% a year earlier.[1] A software asset manager meeting Guidewire today is most likely to meet a subscription.

What the subscription includes

Guidewire Cloud Platform (GWCP) is a Guidewire-developed infrastructure layer hosted on Amazon Web Services.[1] The filing describes three layers: a cloud infrastructure and tooling layer, a data platform layer that gives access to core and predictive analytics data, and an app platform layer of modular cloud-native services separate from the InsuranceSuite core.[1] Guidewire combines multi-tenant cloud services with isolation of each customer’s system of record and database instances, so insurers configure and extend their applications in single-tenant environments managed through Guidewire Cloud Home.[1]

The subscription package, as Guidewire describes it, has these components:

  • Hosting and operation. InsuranceSuite and InsuranceNow are hosted on GWCP and operated by Guidewire’s in-house cloud operations team.[1]
  • Support. Guidewire provides support to subscription customers as part of the subscription, and support for subscription arrangements is not quoted or priced separately.[1] Its Global Support team provides 24x7 platform and application support to all customers.[1]
  • Updates. Subscription services include regular updates to Guidewire software, and many new capabilities arrive as configurable options so customers choose when to adopt them.[1] Guidewire’s migration page says automatic updates arrive three times a year.[2]
  • Standards. The cloud platform includes automated tooling to evaluate customer implementations against Guidewire’s published Cloud Standards, including security and operational requirements.[1]
  • Included tools. EasyGuide, a help tool that embeds training materials in InsuranceSuite, is included with any InsuranceSuite subscription.[3] Guidewire Digital is included with InsuranceSuite on Guidewire Cloud.[4] Canvas and Compare are included with ClaimCenter.[1]

Cloud-only capabilities exist. Integration Gateway, for example, is available for Guidewire Cloud only, not for self-managed InsuranceSuite.[5] Guidewire also describes cloud security and compliance: its cloud services and products are designed to comply with standards from the International Organization for Standardization, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council.[1]

Metrics

Subscription services for core products are generally priced on the amount of Direct Written Premium (DWP) managed on the platform (Direct Written Premium (DWP)), with certain cloud-delivered products priced on usage and associated resource consumption (Usage and associated resource consumption).[1] Variable instalments are generally subject to changes in a customer’s DWP or Gross Written Premium (Gross Written Premium (GWP)).[1]

The platform page adds that customers can use usage-based pricing for additional platform resources based on their priorities, and that the cloud model offers consistent outcomes and costs for platform infrastructure and development resources.[6] None of the cited documents names a unit of consumption, such as compute hours, storage volume, environments or API calls. A customer buying additional platform resources should ask the order form to define the unit, the measurement interval, the rate card and any commitment or overage mechanism.

Counting and floors

Guidewire publishes no minimum fees. The only public sizing information is positioning: InsuranceSuite is typically for customers with DWP of $300M and above and InsuranceNow for $300M and below, with customers on both sides of those bands.[7] These descriptions should not be treated as thresholds.

For forecasting, three contract facts matter. First, initial subscription agreements are generally five years in duration, with annual renewals thereafter, and some customers have initial terms of seven years or longer.[1] Second, subscription arrangements are typically billed in advance annually, and the annual billing may ramp over the contract period.[1] Third, because pricing follows DWP, the filing states that a change in customers’ DWP could affect Guidewire’s revenue.[1] Customers should therefore expect that premium growth, acquisitions and run-off books can interact with fees; the contract states how.

Virtualization and partitioning

Virtualisation and partitioning rules, which dominate licensing for self-managed infrastructure software, do not appear in Guidewire’s public documents for the cloud service. Guidewire’s in-house cloud operations team operates the AWS-hosted infrastructure.[1] The licensing questions are instead about environments (which non-production environments are included), consumption of additional resources, and the scope of entities and lines of business under the DWP measure. All three are contractual.

Cloud and bring-your-own-licence

There is no bring-your-own-licence option described. A customer holding self-managed licences moves to a subscription under a migration agreement, which includes a provision to continue using the term licence during the subscription implementation period.[1] The release highlights page for the November 2020 cloud release describes CloudDirect, a combination of tools and upgrade expert services for self-managed InsuranceSuite customers to upgrade directly to Guidewire Cloud.[3] The article on self-managed licences and cloud migration explains the overlap period.

Programs

Program Catalog row Notes
Cloud subscription Guidewire Cloud Platform subscription Priced generally on DWP; billed annually in advance[1]
Migration agreement Subscription migration agreement Overlap of term licence and subscription[1]
Early Access Program Early Access Program Access to features not yet generally available[8]
Guidewire Marketplace Guidewire Marketplace Extensions free to download; partner services need a separate agreement[9]
PartnerConnect PartnerConnect Partner integrations; over 415 integrations were certified Ready for Guidewire as of 2026-07-31[1]

The Marketplace statement is specific. Extensions built by Guidewire and its technology partners are free to download, but if an extension connects to a partner’s service the customer needs a separate agreement with that partner.[9] Early Access covers features that are not yet generally available.[8]

Compliance and audit

The cited documents describe no premium-reporting process and no audit clause. They do state that Guidewire’s platform includes automated tooling to evaluate implementations against Cloud Standards.[1] That tooling checks configuration against standards; it is not described as measuring licence use.

Out of scope

This article does not cover self-managed InsuranceSuite, Guidewire’s data and analytics products, or professional services, which are generally billed monthly on a time-and-materials basis with some fixed-fee engagements.[1] No prices are given because Guidewire publishes none.
