ESET PROTECT plans and seat counting

This article covers ESET PROTECT plans, standalone business products, their published US prices and how ESET counts seats on workstations, servers, virtual machines, mail servers and SharePoint. For subscription management and compliance in ESET PROTECT Hub, see the related article.

On This Page

ESET PROTECT is ESET’s business security platform. It is managed from a cloud or on-premises console and sold as subscription plans that bundle endpoint, server, mobile, mail, cloud application and managed detection and response (MDR) capabilities.[1] Under the Terms of Use for Business, a plan is a Protection Tier: ESET’s standard services, applications and features, grouped into modules that make up a defined level of protection.[3] Plans and standalone products are sold per device, and ESET counts one seat per operating system.[2]

Editions

The US subscription plans page offers three ESET PROTECT plans, each available for 1, 2 or 3 years.[1]

  • Core: “Solid protection” with next-gen antivirus for computers, servers, mobiles and cloud VMs; firewall, web and device control; LiveGuard cloud sandboxing; full disk encryption; and AI conversation and agent protection.[1]
  • Premium: everything in Core, plus 24/7 MDR, the ESET LiveAI assistant and guided onboarding.[1]
  • Ultimate: everything in Premium, plus full incident remediation, a dedicated security expert, priority support with SLAs and a deployment service.[1]

Each plan can take a Plus package. It adds email, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace protection, vulnerability and patch management, and multi-factor authentication. For Premium and Ultimate it also adds a cyber warranty.[1] The Terms of Use state that any such cyber warranty is provided solely by an independent Warranty Provider, not by ESET.[3]

Published US prices

The page embeds the US eStore price table. The annual price per device falls by quantity band.[1]

Some products have a single break at 50. ESET Cloud Office Security is USD 23.80 per unit below 50 and USD 20.60 from 50. ESET Secure Authentication is USD 28.90 below 50 and USD 24.70 from 50.[1] ESET PROTECT Ultimate is sold online only as a 99-device bundle, at USD 16,360 per year (USD 21,490 with the Plus package).[1] Multi-year terms cost the annual price multiplied by the number of years. For example, 5 Core devices cost USD 274.50 for one year and USD 823.50 for three.[1] Larger quantities go through ESET sales.[1]

Small Office Protection is a separate offering for 5 to 25 devices with no IT administrator. It is managed in the ESET HOME app and portal, and costs USD 179.99 for 5 devices for one year.[1] The Terms of Use for Business exclude ESET’s small-business offering.[3]

Metrics

  • Seat: one per operating system.[2] The Terms of Use license locally installed applications “for the number of devices (e.g., computer, server, mobile device, or tablet) covered by your Subscription”.[3] In ESET PROTECT Hub each activated seat appears as an active subscription unit, one per ESET solution activated for an asset.[5]
  • Mailbox: ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server counts seats per mailbox.[2]
  • User: ESET Endpoint Encryption counts seats per user. ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server is counted per user (CAL) for internal deployments.[2]
  • Server: SharePoint security is counted per server for internet-facing SharePoint licensed on an unlimited-user basis.[2]

Counting / floors

Physical estates. ESET’s worked example: a file server, a print server and three workstations require a five-seat subscription.[2] Protection Tiers let one subscription cover several operating systems (computers, laptops and smartphones), so separate subscriptions per platform are not needed.[2] Unless the Subscription states otherwise, one copy of a locally installed application may be used on one device.[3] Catalog: One seat per operating system.

Mail. The legacy product EULA explains mailbox counting. One End User is a computer user who receives email through a mail client. Where the client redistributes mail automatically, the actual number of recipients counts. A mail gateway counts the users it serves.[4] The KB guidance remains simpler: count per mailbox for Exchange.[2]

SharePoint. ESET follows Microsoft’s model. Internal-facing SharePoint (intranet or extranet) uses per-user CAL-style subscriptions for the known users of the SharePoint database. External-facing SharePoint licensed for unlimited users is subscribed per server.[2] Catalog: SharePoint security licensed per user (internal) or per server (external).

Floors. The US online store sells Core and the standalone products from 5 devices, Premium from 10, and Ultimate only as a 99-device bundle.[1] For larger estates, the KB names ESET’s custom security packages for small and medium businesses (16 to 1,999 workstations) and for enterprise (2,000 or more).[2]

Virtualization & partitioning

VDI. For virtual desktops (Citrix, VMware and similar), the number of seats depends on the maximum number of VMs running at the same time. ESET’s example: 300 VMs used across three shifts of 100 employees need 100 seats.[2] This is a concurrency rule. It differs from the default one-seat-per-device rule, and it rewards non-persistent pools that power VMs off between shifts. Catalog: VDI seats equal the maximum number of concurrently running VMs.

Terminal servers. Each terminal server instance needs a seat for ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server, and the user sessions on it are not counted separately. ESET recommends a Protection Tier subscription so that both endpoint and server applications can be activated.[2] Catalog: Terminal servers need a server seat per instance.

Processors. ESET publishes no processor, core or host metric for its business endpoint and server products.[2]

Cloud / BYOL

Core covers cloud VMs as well as physical devices.[1] A cloud VM with an ESET application activated is an operating system and uses a seat.[2] ESET Cloud Office Security protects cloud email, collaboration and storage services (Exchange Online, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint Online, Gmail and Google Drive) and is sold as its own subscription.[1]

Programs

  • Protection Tier Subscription. This is the standard way to buy. The Subscription Confirmation states the period, quantities and tier. Renewals, upgrades and added quantities are new Orders.[3]
  • Subscription renewal window. There is no extension program. Renewal is possible from 90 days before to 730 days after expiry, and an early renewal starts at the original expiry date.[2]

Out of scope

  • Prices in other countries and partner or volume quotes.
  • ESET HOME consumer products, and the home and small office terms behind Small Office Protection.
  • Feature differences between plans beyond what is needed to identify them.
