Cursor plans and usage pools

This article is about Cursor's individual plans (Hobby, Start, Pro, Pro Plus, Ultra), how included usage is split into pools and billed once exhausted, and how individual subscriptions are changed, cancelled and refunded. Teams and Enterprise seats are covered in a separate article. It is not legal advice.

On This Page

Cursor’s individual plans are the self-serve tier of Anysphere’s licensing. A person buys a plan for one account, receives a monthly allowance of model usage, and pays more only if they choose to enable on-demand usage. The Help centre lists Hobby (free), Start (India only), Pro ($20 per month), Pro+ ($60 per month) and Ultra ($200 per month).[1] The Docs call the $60 plan Pro Plus and list the same prices.[2]

Editions

Hobby is the free plan. It gives access to core features with limited usage: Agent, Chat and Tab completions with the Auto model.[1] After a paid plan is cancelled and the billing period ends, the account reverts to Hobby.[16]

Pro, Pro Plus and Ultra include unlimited tab completions, extended agent usage limits on all models, access to Bugbot and access to Cloud Agents, and all three include both usage pools.[2] The documents do not publish the size of the pools in dollars. Anysphere’s own guidance is that daily Tab users typically stay within included usage, limited Agent users often do, daily Agent users typically reach $60 to $100 per month of total usage and power users running multiple agents often exceed $200 per month.[2]

Start (India only) costs INR 649 per month, tax inclusive, billed monthly in INR by UPI, credit or debit card. Every other individual plan displays its price before tax.[2] Start covers the Cursor Models pool and Cloud Agents. It does not include the Other Models pool, on-demand usage, Bugbot, Auto, Automations or the Cursor SDK, and its Grok models run at a fixed medium effort in non-fast mode.[2][3] Eligibility is limited to developers in India, verified by an Indian phone number, and once the account moves to Pro, Pro+, Ultra or Teams it cannot return to Start.[3]

The cursor.com pricing page retrieved on 2026-10-13 presents a different individual matrix (Free, Plus at $8, Premium at $30, Super at $100 and Ultra at $200), a usage pool shared across Cursor and Grok that refreshes weekly, and a notice that third-party model usage in Cursor is not included in the monthly prices.[15] That page and the Help and Docs pages describe different structures. An asset manager comparing plans for an organization should record which page or checkout screen a purchase was made from.

Metrics

The unit is the individual subscription, one per account. Usage is measured against two monthly pools, each resetting with the billing cycle: Cursor Models, covering Grok 4.7, Grok 4.6, Grok 4.5 and Composer 2.5, and Other Models, covering third-party models charged at the model’s API price.[2] Usage resets monthly with the billing cycle and unused usage does not roll over.[8] The catalog rows are Individual plan subscription, Cursor Models pool and Other Models pool.

Because different models have different API costs, the model selected changes how fast the allowance is consumed.[2] On Start, for example, Grok 4.5 consumes the shared pool about three times faster than Composer 2.5.[3] Requests made with a customer’s own API key on Pro, Pro+ and Ultra do not draw on the pools; the provider bills the model cost directly.[8]

Counting, on-demand usage and floors

When included usage runs out, the user can add on-demand usage or upgrade. On-demand usage continues at the same API rates and is billed monthly, and Anysphere states that requests are never downgraded in quality or speed.[2] On individual plans on-demand usage must be explicitly enabled in settings.[4] If it is disabled, requests stop until the pool resets. Overage is billed at API rates with no markup, and it appears as separate line items and invoices from the subscription.[4]

Individual users can set a monthly spend limit on on-demand usage; when reached, AI features stop for that user until the limit is raised or the next cycle starts.[5] Enforcement is not instant, so usage can briefly exceed the limit. The excess is credited as a temporary spend-limit credit and billed up to the limit, and raising the limit in the same cycle can make that credit billable.[5] Start has no on-demand spend at all; AI features pause at the limit until the next cycle.[3]

Max Mode, which extends a model’s context window, exists only on legacy request-based plans and is billed at the model’s API rate plus 20%. Current usage-based plans do not include it.[9]

Subscription mechanics

The billing cycle starts on the date of subscription and renews monthly or yearly.[7] Under the Terms, subscriptions renew automatically for periods equal to the initial period, must be cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal, and fees are in U.S. dollars and non-refundable except as required by law.[14] Anysphere may change fees if it gives advance notice through the interface, a pop-up or email, and continued use constitutes agreement to the change.[14] Yearly plans carry a 20% discount.[13]

Upgrades take effect immediately. The credit for the old plan is based on its unused included usage, not days remaining, and if all usage is consumed the full price of the new plan is owed.[1][6] Downgrades are scheduled for the end of the billing period, and no prorated refund is given for a downgrade on a subscription that already has usage in the period.[1][6] A refund of the most recent payment may be reviewed if the charge was made within 14 days and the subscription was not used in that period; on-demand charges already consumed are not refundable.[6]

Payments are processed by Stripe, and the account’s plan, payment method and invoices are managed in the Stripe portal linked from the dashboard billing page.[7][14]

Programs and channels

Subscriptions can also be bought in the Cursor iOS app, limited to monthly Pro, Pro+ and Ultra plans. Apple is merchant of record, so Apple handles cancellation, refunds and receipts, and an in-app plan cannot be switched directly to a cursor.com plan.[10] On-demand usage for such plans is enabled on the web and billed to a separate card.[11]

The legacy student discount closed to new sign-ups on 2026-06-25; existing holders keep their rate until the plan expires, after which Pro continues at $20 per month unless cancelled.[12] The referral program was discontinued, and credits already earned stay on the account.[13] The pricing page also states that subscriptions are sold only directly and that resellers are not authorized.[15]

Out of scope

This article does not cover Teams or Enterprise billing, the per-model price list, data handling or the legal terms, which are in the related articles. It does not give pool sizes, because Anysphere’s documents retrieved here do not publish them, and it does not cover Grok Bot or the X subscription bundle beyond noting that the pricing page presents it.
