Boomi consumption metering and message tiers

This article is about Boomi's usage-based metrics, including Pay-As-You-Go Boomi Messages, AI Platform Platform Messages and Message Tiers, Event Streams messages, Connect tool calls and Data Integration BDUs. For connection-based Integration editions see Boomi Integration editions and connection licensing.

On This Page

Boomi consumption metering covers the products and plans Boomi measures by volume rather than by deployed connections. They include the self-service Pay-As-You-Go edition, the AI Platform with its Platform Messages and Message Tiers, and the standalone Event Streams, Connect and Data Integration subscriptions.[1][3] Each has its own unit, and some are converted into a common Boomi Platform Message when bought as part of an AI Platform plan.[3] The Product Specific Terms decide what happens when annual capacity is unused or exceeded.[4]

The account’s Usage tab shows these plans. Account plans such as AI Platform, One Platform and Full Consumption appear as stacked charts per product. Product plans such as Flow, Event Streams, Data Hub, Connect and API Management show a single usage series. Each card compares capacity used with total capacity and flags plans forecast to exceed it.[8]

Pay-As-You-Go

Boomi Pay-As-You-Go is “a self-service, usage-based platform edition”. It includes Integration, API Management, Boomi Data Hub, Flow and EDI with unlimited connections, users, processes, Flow apps, trading partners, golden records and environments.[1] It comes with one production and one test runtime cloud attachment. It does not include execution workers, sub-accounts, Loqate, partner master features or premium support. Standard support cannot be upgraded.[1] Data Catalog and Preparation is not included.[2]

The plan is open only to active trial users, who opt in during the 30-day trial. It is billed monthly in USD through a Stripe portal and renews until cancelled.[2] A Pay-As-You-Go account can move to any Integration edition. Existing Base, Pro and Enterprise customers can open a new Pay-As-You-Go account “but cannot migrate their existing accounts”.[2]

AI Platform

AI Platform Pricing has three components: the Integration License, the AI Platform License and the AI Platform Message Tier. “The Integration License will continue to follow your current integration pricing model.”[3] The AI Platform License comes in Base, Pro and Enterprise editions, and “All existing customers have access to the Base edition”. Every AI Platform licence includes up to 100K messages, with further Message Tiers for sale.[3] The Product Specific Terms say Boomi AI usage, including Agentstudio, is limited by “the Message Capacity Limit Tier and Edition purchased for each Subscription Year”.[4]

Event Streams, Connect and Data Integration

Event Streams “is licensed based on annual message volume”, and every tier has the same features.[5] Connect, which gives AI assistants governed MCP access to enterprise systems, “is licensed based on annual tool call volume”.[6] Data Integration “uses a consumption-based pricing model, measuring usage in credits called Boomi Data Units (BDUs)”. BDUs were previously called Data Integration Pricing Units (RPUs).[7] The Data Integration editions differ by users (Base 2, others unlimited), environments (1, 2, 3, unlimited) and maximum sync frequency (60, 15, 15 and 5 minutes).[7]

Metrics

Boomi Message

“A Message is a single Boomi document that flows through any of the Boomi Enterprise Platform services, such as Integration, Flow, APIM, Hub, and EDI.”[1] Every inbound and outbound document counts, whatever its format or transport, including the response documents of request/response calls. Internal component-to-component messages in the same account, such as Integration calling Flow, are not counted.[1] Sending an XML file over FTP and receiving a binary file over HTTP uses two messages.[1]

Boomi Platform Message

“Boomi Platform Message is a unified single pricing metric designed to simplify and streamline how customers use our AI Platform.”[3] Usage of each non-integration product is converted with a fixed factor. Messages are consumed inside Agentstudio (an agent calling an API) and outside it (golden records not used by an agent).[3]

Product usage Platform Messages
100 Flow Launches 1
100 Event Streams events 1
1 Data Hub (MDH) golden record 12
1 API Management API call 1
1 Control Plane API 30,000
1 Data Integration BDU 50
1 AI prompt 100

Conversion factors are as published in AI Platform Pricing.[3]

Event Streams message and Connect tool call

Event Streams messages are events “published to an Event Streams topic or consumed by a destination client”. Each message can be up to 1 MB.[5] A Connect tool call “occurs every time an AI Assistant requests an action from Connect”. Each request and response is capped at 1 MB.[6]

Boomi Data Unit

Data Integration activity BDU charge
Application (API) source 0.5 per execution per output table, plus 0.5 per additional 50 MB, rounded up
API source configured for high-frequency sync (Pro Plus, Enterprise) 1 per 100 MB
Database, file and webhook replication 1 per 100 MB
Log-based CDC replication 2 per 100 MB
Orchestration or advanced workflow 0.5 per execution
Python logic step By server size and run time, plus 0.4 per 100 MB of network traffic

Charges are as published in the Data Integration pricing documentation.[7]

Counting / floors

Pay-As-You-Go messages are calculated daily and added up monthly. “All messages are billed at a flat rate of $0.05 a message.”[1] Production and test messages are counted the same way. The base fee stays at USD 99 per month “regardless of the number of Messages used”.[2] For example, a month with 40,000 messages would cost USD 99 plus USD 2,000. This is an arithmetic illustration of the published rates, not a Boomi quote.

Event Streams annual volume is “the number of messages published (In Messages) + number messages consumed (Out Messages) per contract year” across all environments. On that definition, one event published once and consumed by two clients counts as three messages.[5] Connect counts tool calls per contract year across all environments and AI assistants.[6] Data Integration charges by data transferred or executions, not rows. An API execution that finds no data still costs 0.5 credits.[7] There is no charge per connector, per user or per environment, though each edition caps the number of environments.[7]

Capacity, lapse and overage

The Product Specific Terms use the same capacity language for Boomi AI, Data Integration and MFT:[4]

  1. Usage is limited to the annual capacity on the Order (or the tiers at www.boomi.com/APP for Boomi AI) for each Subscription Year.
  2. Unused capacity “shall not carry forward” and lapses without refund unless otherwise agreed in writing.
  3. Boomi monitors usage and notifies the customer as it nears or passes a tier limit. The parties then negotiate extra capacity co-termed with the existing Order.
  4. If the customer exceeds the limit and buys nothing, Boomi keeps the service running but may invoice the next tier pro rata for the rest of the Initial Term. If that invoice is unpaid without a good-faith dispute, Boomi may suspend access and terminate.

AI Platform Pricing adds that a Message Tier bought mid-year is “prorated to the remaining term of your agreement”. The next subscription year’s invoice includes the new tier.[3] In practice, buying the next tier during the year raises the baseline for every following year.

Event Streams and Connect are gentler. If usage passes the annual quota the service “will continue to work”, and Boomi contacts the account administrator about a higher tier.[5][6] Behind all of these sits MSA §4.2. It makes the customer responsible for monitoring consumption and lets Boomi bill use above the Order at then-current rates.[10]

Virtualization & partitioning

None of these metrics depends on hardware, cores or virtual machines. Event Streams is “Fully managed and hosted in public runtime cloud”.[5] Pay-As-You-Go states there are “no limitations on what you can build or run”.[2]

Cloud / BYOL

Data Integration plans differ in private connectivity: AWS PrivateLink or Azure Private Link and reverse SSH from Pro Plus, VPN for databases on Enterprise only.[7] The Event Streams Enterprise offering “Powered by Solace” is a resold Third-Party Product governed by Solace’s own terms. Overage fees for exceeding its usage limits are “the sole responsibility of the Customer”.[4]

Programs

  • Event Streams Starter Tier: all features, limited to 120,000 messages per year and two routes per environment, for existing Boomi customers only. Its click-through terms make the free trial subject to the MSA and cap Boomi’s liability at USD 500 where exclusion is unenforceable.[5]
  • Connect Base Tier: 25,000 tool calls per month and three sources, for existing customers only.[6]
  • Annual capacity tiers: the lapse and next-tier rules above.[4]
  • Free trials: the platform trial lasts 30 days.[9] The Data Integration trial gives Professional features “for 14 days or 1,000 free credits (worth $1,200) of usage, whichever expires first”.[7]

Out of scope

This article does not give tier sizes or prices for API Management, Data Hub, Event Streams Tiers 1 to 5, paid Connect tiers or AI Platform Message Tiers, because Boomi does not publish them. The pricing page lists API Management editions from Professional to Enterprise Plus by capability, and Data Hub as Standard and Pro + Enterprise.[9] Data Integration customers who subscribed before 2025-04-01 follow a separate legacy database pricing page.[7]
