- Definition
- License Program Guide, "Client instance": "Any physical or virtual operating environment with a distinct server name or identity that has a Commvault intelligent Data Agent (iDA) configured to capture data from it." For non-virtual environments this includes physical servers with agents and named entities such as NAS devices protected through a proxy.
- Counting rules
- Per-OI options exist only for Backup & Recovery. Since 2020-07-13 the OI is capped at 500 GB per instance: a 700 GB client needs two OI licences and entitlements cannot be pooled. Clusters count each member server that can run backups; a shared cluster resource is always non-virtual. NAS counts per IP address or SVM/vFiler. OI licences may cover VMs where virtual licences are insufficient (VM plus OI, or OI only), but not socket overages.
- Floors / minimums
- Capped OI: 500 GB per instance; customers with at least one uncapped OI under support keep the uncapped override per CommCell.
