- In user/device type licensing the License Server dynamically assigns a license to a user or a device based on the usage and monitors license consumption. The default assignment is a user license. When a license is assigned to a user, the user may access from an unlimited number of devices and requires a unique user ID. When a license is assigned to a device, the device license is assigned when two or more users connect to an exclusively shared endpoint device. These licenses are not the same as Per user or Per device licenses.
- Counting rules
- Default assignment is a user license. A device license is assigned when two or more users connect to an exclusively shared endpoint. The License Server uses userID and deviceID to use the smallest number of licenses. Assignment period is 90 days from connection; the lease expires 90 days after the last connected user or device disconnects. DaaS User/Device: Citrix Cloud counts unique users and unique devices and uses the lesser of those counts; unused assignments release after 90 days. You cannot convert Citrix Virtual Desktops Standard Edition concurrent licenses to user/device licenses (or the reverse). FAQ buy formula (not a CCU conversion): (total users) − (users that only access exclusively with shared devices) + (shared devices). 10% overdraft is a convenience, not an entitlement; Concurrent licenses do not include overdraft. License burst mode (15 consecutive days) is not applicable to LAS-activated License Servers. Multiplexing does not reduce the number of licenses required.

- On-premises user/device, user, or device models: additional 10% overdraft as a convenience (purchase used overdraft within 30 days of first use). 15-day License burst mode for CVAD (not LAS). Cloud: Citrix does not prevent service launches if assigned licenses exceed purchased licenses.
