SonarQube Cloud is SonarSource’s hosted code analysis service. Its documentation still uses paths under the former name SonarCloud. The pricing model is subscription-based: “each organization is assigned a plan that determines its feature access and LOC limit”, and four plans are offered: Free, Team, Enterprise and OSS.[1] Paid plans buy a maximum number of private lines of code. Public projects are analysed without limit on every plan.[1] SonarQube Cloud is a SaaS Product under the SonarSource Primary Customer Agreement, with its own Supplemental Terms. The Free and Team plans have additional Supplemental Terms of their own.[8][6]

The Free plan offers basic analysis only. It analyses the main branch, and pull requests only when they target the main branch. Custom quality profiles and gates, groups, permission templates, webhooks and Jira Cloud integration start at Team.[1] Enterprise adds the enterprise-level hierarchy that groups several organizations, plus SAML or OIDC single sign-on, SCIM, audit logs, IP allow lists, portfolios, compliance and PDF reports. ABAP, Apex, COBOL, JCL, PL/I and RPG are supported only on Enterprise.[1]
Prices. SonarSource’s pricing page shows the Team plan “Starts at $34 monthly”. Its FAQ says pricing “starts at $34 monthly for analysis of up to 100k LOC”, while a later FAQ answer still quotes $32 per month. Enterprise has custom pricing.[2] Monthly card billing is charged in EUR, GBP, JPY or USD depending on the billing country.[3]
Separate subscriptions. SCA and advanced SAST (SonarQube Advanced Security) are a separate subscription on Team and Enterprise. Hunter Agent is a separate subscription on Enterprise. The Remediation Agent and Sonar Vortex need a separate Sonar Agent Essentials subscription, which is annual only on Team.[1] The usage-based terms for metered AI software are in the AI Annex.[11]
Metrics
The single licensing metric is private Lines of Code. The subscription plan “determines the maximum number of private Lines of Code (LOC) you are permitted to analyze”. The limit applies per organization on Free and Team, and per enterprise on Enterprise.[1] Within an enterprise, the limit is either shared or allocated.[5]
Counting / floors
Used LOC. An organization’s used LOC is the sum, over its private projects, of the LOC of each project’s largest long-lived branch. In the documentation’s words, it “is not a measure of the new code analyzed in a given billing cycle”.[1] Test code, files excluded from analysis, code in unsupported languages, and comments or blank lines are excluded. The pricing FAQ adds that only private projects count. Its example: a 6K LOC project analysed 100 times in a month counts as 6K.[1][2] Catalog proof: Test code, excluded files, unsupported languages, comments and blank lines are not counted.
Hard limit. “You cannot exceed your LOC limit in SonarQube Cloud.” If an analysis would push usage above the limit, SonarQube Cloud does not perform it and returns an error. Organizations approaching the limit are notified, but no notification is currently supported for the enterprise-wide shared pool.[1] SonarSource warns that a plan which does not cover all intended LOC may prevent onboarding all projects.[1] There is no LOC overage on SonarQube Cloud comparable to SonarQube Server’s. Catalog proof: SonarQube Cloud LOC limits per plan cannot be exceeded.
Enterprise allocation. By default all organizations in an enterprise share the enterprise LOC limit. An enterprise admin may allocate an individual limit to some organizations, and the rest share what remains. An allocated LOC “must be a multiple of 100k with a minimum allocation of 100k”, and SonarSource recommends using only Shared LOC below a 1M enterprise limit.[5] Raising the enterprise limit requires a new enterprise licence from sales.[5] Allocation lets a licence manager reserve capacity for business units and stop one organization from consuming the shared pool. Catalog proof: Allocated LOC must be a multiple of 100k, minimum 100k.
Billing and changes
Billing per organization. “In SonarQube Cloud each Team or Enterprise plan organization is billed separately.” Payment details belong to the organization, not to the DevOps platform account used to sign in.[3] Team plans can be paid monthly by credit card or through a coupon bought from sales, “which is usually valid for one year”. The Enterprise plan is an enterprise-level subscription, sold as a one-year or multi-year licence billed annually.[3] Monthly Team subscriptions renew automatically and may be cancelled effective at the end of the billing period. Annual subscriptions also renew automatically, and their fees are non-refundable except as required by law or on termination for breach.[6] SonarSource may change Team plan pricing on 30 days’ notice. For annual subscriptions, a price change takes effect at the next renewal.[6] Catalog proof: Each SonarQube Cloud Team or Enterprise organization is billed separately.
Resizing. On monthly subscriptions, increasing the LOC limit takes effect immediately and is charged pro rata on the next billing date. A decrease takes effect at the next billing cycle. Yearly or custom subscriptions are changed through sales.[4] Downgrades from Team or Enterprise also take effect at the next billing cycle. A downgrade to Free requires the organization to meet the five-member limit.[4] The legacy paid plan is being retired, and its LOC cannot be changed.[4] Catalog proof: LOC increases take effect immediately and are prorated; decreases at next cycle.
Lapse. If card payments fail repeatedly or a coupon or licence expires, private projects are suspended. New analyses stop, but data is preserved and members can still read it. Projects of accounts abandoned for a long period may eventually be deleted.[3] Enterprise users see an expiry banner two months before the enterprise licence ends.[3] Catalog proof: Expired coupons, licences or failed payments suspend private projects.
Trials. Monthly paid plans start with a 14-day free trial, and a coupon may carry a custom trial.[3] Trial access to commercial tiers is Complimentary Access. It is provided as is, without SLA or support, and liability is capped at USD 250.[10] Catalog proof: Trials and preview add-ons are as-is with liability capped at USD 250.
Free Tier and Team Plan terms
The Free Tier and Team Plan Supplemental Terms change several defaults of the Primary Customer Agreement:
- No personal data. Customer Data on these plans must not contain Personal Data.[6]
- Product improvement and AI training. SonarSource “may use Customer Data and Usage Data provided to Free and Team Plans to develop, train, tune, and improve” its products and machine learning models.[6] For SonarQube Cloud Enterprise and SonarQube Server customers, the AI Annex instead limits training on Input Data to training solely for that customer’s benefit.[11]
- No SLA and no IP indemnity. The SaaS service-level commitment and SonarSource’s IP indemnity do not apply. Free Tier liability is excluded entirely, or capped at USD 250 where exclusion is unenforceable. Team Plan liability is capped at 12 months’ fees.[6]
- Support. The Free Tier gets community forums only. The Team Plan gets Support under the Support Terms.[6]
Catalog proof: Free and Team plan Customer Data may be used to train SonarSource models; No IP indemnity and no SLA for Free and Team plans.
Enterprise plan customers fall under the general SonarQube Cloud Supplemental Terms. These apply the Service Level Agreement published at sonarsource.com.[7]
Virtualization & partitioning
Not applicable. SonarQube Cloud is hosted by SonarSource, and no infrastructure metric is involved.
Cloud / BYOL
SonarQube Cloud has no bring-your-own-licence path from SonarQube Server. Each is purchased separately, and the Primary Customer Agreement treats SaaS Products and Self-Managed Products as different grants.[8]
Programs
- SonarQube for OSS. A free plan for open source organizations, covering unlimited public repositories but “no private projects”. Legacy free organizations were moved to it, and an OSS organization can only move to the Free plan.[1][4]
- Support. The Enterprise plan includes commercial support from 5M LOC. For Team, commercial support can be bought separately.[2]
- Products. Advanced Security can be added during a Team trial sign-up. Other products require separate subscriptions.[9]
Out of scope
- SonarQube Server and its LOC overage, covered in SonarQube Server editions and lines of code.
- The SonarQube Cloud Service Level Agreement text and negotiated Enterprise terms.
- Gitar AI code review, sold on the same pricing page under its own per-user and outcome-based pricing.[2]
