Dataiku Cloud and Cloud Stacks licensing

This article is about the hosted Dataiku Cloud service and the Cloud Stacks deployment model, not the License Terms for self-managed software. It is not legal advice.

On This Page

Dataiku Cloud is Dataiku’s hosted offering. Dataiku’s installation documentation describes it as the setup in which Dataiku provides free trials and paying hosted plans on its own cloud, with data and compute hosted by Dataiku.[9] Dataiku Cloud Stacks is a different model: a fully managed Dataiku setup deployed on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud inside the customer’s own tenant, where, according to the documentation, Dataiku does not have access to the customer’s data.[9] The two models are licensed differently, and a software asset manager should know which one each deployment uses before reading any entitlement.

Dataiku Cloud is governed by its own legal set: the Cloud Terms, a Cloud Terms FAQ, a Cloud Support Policy, a Data Processing Addendum, an EU Data Act Addendum and a Cloud Security Addendum.[15] The Cloud Terms name the Dataiku SAS or the Dataiku entity indicated on the Order as the contracting party and were last updated on 1 July 2026.[1]

Editions

Dataiku announced in March 2023 that its SaaS offering, formerly Dataiku Online, was renamed Dataiku Cloud and expanded with Discover, Business, Enterprise and Dedicated editions, all hosted and managed by Dataiku with automated upgrades, backups and monitoring.[8] The announcement does not publish a capability matrix. The Cloud Support Policy still uses the pairs Enterprise/Advanced, Business/Standard and Discover/Basic when it sets the number of Designated Support Contacts: up to 5 for Enterprise/Advanced and up to 2 for Business/Standard or Discover/Basic, with more available for additional fees.[3] See Cloud Discover Edition, Cloud Business Edition, Cloud Enterprise Edition and Cloud Dedicated Edition.

Free trial

The 14-day trial runs on a fully managed Dataiku Cloud instance, needs no credit card, and gives access to all features except Govern and advanced LLM Mesh. The page states limits of a space with 2 users, the API node with 1 API service, 4 CPUs and 32 GiB of elastic compute, and says the cloud instance is deactivated when the trial ends.[7] Contractually, a trial is a “Trial or Beta”: use is only for internal evaluation during the period Dataiku designates, or 30 days if none is designated, with no warranty, indemnity, SLA or Support and a liability cap of US$500.[1] See Cloud free trial.

Metrics

Spaces and nodes

The Launchpad is the administrative hub of Dataiku Cloud. A space is a particular configuration of the platform at a specific software version, and a subscription may include one or several spaces that are independent of each other.[4] A space can have optional extensions: additional nodes for production tasks (Automation, API and Govern), additional endpoints for secure data connectivity, and additional features for Spark computation, audit logs and Elastic AI compute metrics.[4] The Launchpad includes a Subscription and Plan panel with details of the current Dataiku plan.[4]

Users and profile seats

A Cloud User is anyone that the customer allows to use its accounts for the service, including employees, advisors and contractors of the customer and its Affiliates.[1] The customer provisions and manages User accounts and is responsible for their actions.[1] The list of user profiles and the number of seats for each depend on the subscription, the profile is defined at space level and applies on all nodes, and a user who joins when no seat of the requested profile is available receives the guest profile.[5] See Dataiku user profiles and seats.

Elastic AI Compute

Elastic AI Compute is capped by quotas of CPU, GB of RAM and parallel activities that depend on the subscription. They act as limits on maximum concurrent usage and form a common pool shared by all users.[6] A containerised job withdraws the CPU and RAM it uses plus one parallel activity until it finishes; a task asking for more than remains on any quota is queued until resources are freed; and jobs on partitioned datasets launch several containers and count as several parallel activities.[6] Webapps and notebooks must be closed to free the resources they use.[6] A separate limit on simultaneous activities also depends on the subscription on Dataiku Cloud and can be updated in the Launchpad settings.[14] See Elastic AI Compute quota.

Counting and floors

The Cloud Terms count nothing numerically; the Order and subscription do. Auto-renewal follows the same pattern as the self-managed terms: each Subscription Term renews for successive periods with the same length, usage limits and fees unless a different renewal Order is agreed or either party gives notice of non-renewal at least 30 days before the end.[1] Unless otherwise agreed, renewal fees are at Dataiku’s then-current rates regardless of earlier discounts, fees are invoiced in advance and due within 30 days, and fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable except as the Terms expressly provide.[1] The FAQ confirms that Dataiku does not offer termination for convenience.[2]

If no Subscription Term is in effect, either party may terminate the agreement for any or no reason with notice.[1] Dataiku may suspend access on a Suspension Event: an account 30 days or more overdue, a breach of the Usage Rules, or use that risks material harm to the service or others, with prior notice where practicable.[1]

Virtualization and partitioning

Dataiku Cloud has no customer-side virtualization question, because the customer does not install the software. The partitioning concept that matters is the dataset partition: partitioned jobs run as several containers and consume several parallel activities from the quota.[6] On Cloud Stacks the software runs in the customer’s tenant, and Fleet Manager manages instances and licences.[10]

Cloud and BYOL

Data and usage rules

The customer must not submit “Sensitive Data” to the service, which the Terms define as HIPAA-regulated health information, PCI DSS payment card data and similar protected data, and the FAQ repeats that such data is not allowed.[1][2] The customer may not sell, sublicense or rent the service, use it to provide a hosted or managed service to others, use it to develop a competing product, or run security tests without Dataiku’s consent.[1] During a subscription term the customer may export its data, and within 60 days of termination or expiration Dataiku deletes Customer Data, with up to 30 days of access on written request to export it.[1] Dataiku may collect Usage Data to operate, improve and support the service and for other lawful business purposes, including benchmarking and reports.[1]

Cloud Stacks licence handling

For Cloud Stacks, the customer enters a Dataiku licence or Dataiku licence token in Fleet Manager to benefit from most capabilities.[10] In addition to the global licence, a sublicense can be selected for a particular instance in the instance’s settings.[11] The licence file can be updated under Settings, Cloud setup, with licence mode set to manually entered, and the file must be copied in full; the instances must then be reprovisioned for the update to apply, which creates a new VM from the template with the same data disk attached.[12] Fleet Manager takes a snapshot of the data disk before reprovisioning.[12]

Unsupported installation options

Beyond Cloud, Cloud Stacks and the custom install on Linux, the documentation lists other options (macOS, Windows, sandbox marketplace images, virtual machines and running DSS as a container) and states that Dataiku does not provide support for any of them.[13]

Programs

  • Support. Support is provided in business hours of 9AM to 7PM local time in New York, Paris or Singapore, with a P1 target initial response of 4 business hours.[3] The Cloud Terms also bind Dataiku to a Service Level Agreement during the Subscription Term.[1]
  • Multi-Purpose Credits. Dataiku provides pay-per-use Multi-Purpose Credits that allow bursting beyond subscription limits so critical jobs run even when the standard quota is fully used, creating larger containerised execution configurations, and creating accelerated compute configurations such as GPU.[6] See Multi-Purpose Credits.
  • Liability. Each party’s General Cap is the amount paid or payable in the 12 months before the first incident (US$500 if nothing was paid), Dataiku’s liability for breaches of its security obligations is capped at two times that amount, and indemnification, breach of the Usage Rules and most confidentiality breaches are Uncapped Claims.[1]
  • Resellers. A customer buying through an authorised reseller pays the reseller, and Dataiku may terminate use rights if it does not receive the reseller’s payment.[1]

Audits and compliance

The Cloud Terms reviewed contain no licence verification certificate or audit clause comparable to the one in the self-managed License Terms. Suspension is the contractual consequence of an overdue account or a breach of the Usage Rules.[1] The Launchpad provides an Audit Trail of who accessed the space and from where, and a Usage and Monitoring panel with visualisations of running tasks and available computational resources.[4]
