Celonis keeps superseded metric definitions on an archive page of its terms site because customers may hold contracts written against them. The Order governs which definitions apply, and the current AI Platform Metrics Description itself points customers without an AI Platform line item to the document that fits their purchase.[1] This article summarises the archived scopes for orientation and then the programs that give limited or special access to the platform.
Intelligent Process Mining (2020)
The July 2020 scope for Celonis Intelligent Process Mining used a Concurrent Process as its central unit. A Process was a technical data model with one activity table (event log) and semantically connected metadata tables for one distinct business process, such as Purchase-to-Pay, Order-to-Cash or Accounts Payable. A licence for one Concurrent Process allowed loading and analysing one Process at a time, so the number of licensed Concurrent Processes was an upper limit for processes analysed simultaneously, and each Process licence could be used on only one server.[2] People were counted as Named Users, each a personalised account used by one natural person designated by name, with roles (viewer, analyst, data scientist) that could be changed freely. A separate Personal User type covered access to the Celonis Online Training Cloud.[2] The unit is the ancestor of today’s Process Module: both limit the number of business processes in use, although the older metric limited concurrency rather than scope by Region and LoB.
Intelligent Business Cloud (2020)
The Intelligent Business Cloud subscription scope of July 2020 defined Analytical Processing Capacity, Business Users and Analysts. APC was the uncompressed raw data ingested concurrently for processing, covering transformations, computation and necessary storage. Business Users and Analysts were each tied to one natural person by name, and the number of subscribed users was an upper limit for employees authorised to access the software.[3]
Execution Management System (2023)
The February 2023 scope for the Execution Management System (EMS) states that it replaces the Intelligent Business Cloud scope and consolidated the features described there.[4] Its main constructs were:
- Teams. A Productive EMS Team was provided as part of Business User, Analyst and APC subscriptions, limited to the purchased numbers. The Standard Sandbox was provisioned by default with Analysts limited to the productive number, 10% of the productive APC, 100,000 table rows and no Business Users. The Premium Sandbox was a separate paid Order with the same APC as production and no row limit. A Premium-Productive EMS Team provided an unlimited number of named users with full view, build, admin and Action Flow rights, plus the EMS Connector for Power BI and the Intelligence API.[4]
- Executions. Each EMS subscription included 150,000 Executions per contract year, with more available by subscription or at then-current list price. Executions not used in a contract year did not roll over.[4]
- Machine Learning workbenches. Three workbenches with 1 CPU, 4 GB RAM and 5 GB disk each, with auto-shutdown after 12 hours of non-use.[4]
- Accounts Receivable Business App. Metered by Annual Open Invoices: newly created invoices extracted from the source system and processed within the app, with the volume set per contractual year.[4]
- Process Sphere. An add-on priced by Object Types and Transaction Value. The Transaction Value is the sum of the values of objects in a process’s Main Object Type processed within Process Sphere. An object is deemed processed the first time it is loaded, its USD value is consumed at the average FX rate for that day, unused value does not roll over, and processing of new objects may be blocked when the contracted value is consumed.[4]
- Workforce Productivity. An add-on priced by Active Concurrent Users.[4]
The document notes that its provisions do not apply to licensees of SAP Process Mining by Celonis, Cloud Edition.[4] A related support document, the March 2023 Premium Support service description, offered 24/7 first-level support and was available only for a fully deployed EMS.[5]
Migrating between metrics
The move from the EMS scope to the November 2025 OCPM Infrastructure edition and the May 2026 AI Platform edition changed the unit of sale: users became unlimited under the infrastructure entitlement, process scope became the Process Module, and data and compute capacity became spend-linked.[6][1] A customer renewing from an EMS contract should have the Order restate each entitlement (users, APC, Executions) in the new metrics rather than rely on the definitions of the old documents, because the Order prevails over the metric definitions.[1]
Academic Alliance
The Celonis Academic Alliance is a program for students, teachers and researchers. Its page describes free access to the Celonis platform and more than 300 interactive courses, and offers for teachers that include free software licences.[7] The terms for the academic edition of the Intelligent Business Cloud, in an archived 2019 document, restrict use:[8]
- access is solely for the user’s own academic research and education within the program, with no commercial use and no use outside the Academic Alliance environment, although analysis of external clients’ data by a student consulting institution within its statutory purposes counts as academic use;
- the licence is limited to the user sent an invitation link and may not be transferred, sublicensed, sold or made available to third parties;
- competitors of Celonis may not use it, nor may it be used to build a competing product;
- support is discretionary and “as available”; the software is provided as-is with liability capped at USD 1,000 except for product liability, intentional misconduct and personal injury; and
- Celonis may end the terms at its discretion on 14 days’ notice.[8]
For licence management, an academic seat inside a company is not a free substitute for a commercial seat: use for any commercial purpose is outside the terms.
Public Preview and Early Adopter Features
Features labelled Public Preview are governed by the Public Preview Terms (April 2025), which supplement the customer’s agreement and prevail for the preview offering. Access is a non-exclusive, non-transferable right for internal testing and evaluation only. The terms disclaim warranties, limit support to standard support without uptime or recovery objectives, and say the generally available version may have different features, branding or pricing. Unless otherwise agreed, a preview expires fourteen days after the offering becomes generally available for commercial use, and the customer must keep the existence of the preview confidential.[9] Generative AI previews are additionally subject to the AI Addendum.[9]
Early Adopter Features, which are pre-general-availability products described as beta, pilot, limited release, public preview or non-production, sit outside the MSA entirely: their use is governed solely by the Early Customer Engagement Agreement.[10] A licence manager should therefore not count them as licensed capacity and should record which tenants have preview features enabled.
Proof of Value
A Proof of Value (POV) is a demonstration or evaluation to let the customer assess the Services. Use is limited to one internal business process chosen at an initial goal-setting workshop and to the agreed duration, subject to any POV fees. Celonis may, but is not obliged to, maintain the POV Team for up to nine months after the POV concludes (the Dormant Period), and if the customer buys within that period it will reactivate the team and, on request, transfer content to a productive team, possibly for an additional fee. Additional Services, including POVs, are provided as-is with no service level agreement and no support.[10]
Celonis for Consulting (C4C)
Celonis for Consulting is a credit-based model that lets Celonis partners use the platform to manage projects for End Clients. A project must be used solely to provide services to a third-party End Client, not for internal use.[11] Partners may receive free credits under the Celonis Partner Program, applicable to any project type but limited to the first project with a given End Client for its initial term, with renewals at Celonis’s discretion. Partners can buy paid credits pay-as-you-go or on a pre-commitment model with volume discounts. Credits not activated by their expiry date, the Celonis fiscal year end or the end of the relevant subscription year are forfeited and do not roll over.[11]
| Project type | Credits | Term | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| C4C Discover | 1 | Up to 3 months | One process; up to 1 TB APC and 1 million AI Outputs per project |
| C4C Execute | 3 | Up to 6 months | One process; same APC and AI Output limits |
| C4C Audit | 0.5 to 2 by project size | Up to 6 months | For external audit of client financial statements; no process limit |
| C4C Operate | 5 to 20 by size and scope | 12 months | For business process outsourcing where the partner runs the process; one process |
| C4C Blueprint / Modeling | 1 / 3 | 6 / 12 months | Process Management Bundle |
| C4C Scan / Monitor | 1 / 6 | 6 / 12 months | Workforce Productivity |
Credits for C4C Operate are set by financial metric and scope: 5 credits where annual total assets are below USD 50 billion (banking), net premiums written below USD 2.5 billion (insurance) or revenue or budgets below USD 3 billion (others), 10 credits for the middle band, and 20 above USD 150 billion, USD 8 billion or USD 10 billion respectively. C4C Audit credits are set by data size: 15 GB for 0.5 credits, 30 GB for 1 and 65 GB for 2. Add-ons such as extra APC, AI Outputs, CCUs and process modules consume further credits.[11] Partners must meet the partner program requirements, registered contacts without a contractual relationship cannot start projects, and where the End Client is already a Celonis customer the partner should first try to use that customer’s existing entitlements.[11] The Metrics Description repeats the compliance and audit wording of the standard documents.[11]
