Ansys

Ansys, now part of Synopsys, develops engineering simulation software for structures, fluids, electronics, optics and related physics. It licenses its software as concurrent licences on an annual or perpetual basis, with web-based Shared Web, Named User and pay-per-use Elastic licensing options.

  1. Ansys offers concurrent licensing on an annual or perpetual basis for customers who use its software frequently and consistently.[1]

  2. Ansys also offers Shared Web, Named User and Elastic licensing, which are web-based and can be accessed from on-premises and cloud computing resources.[2]

  3. Elastic licensing is a pay-per-use model covering software, computing power and Ansys Cloud hardware, and complements other Ansys licensing options.[3]

  4. The Ansys Licensing Portal gives customers access to their entitlements and lets them generate the licences needed to run Ansys software.[4]

  5. Ansys Student is free, with problem-size limits such as 128K nodes/elements for structural physics and 1 million cells/nodes for fluid physics.[5]

    Licensing impact
    • The European Commission cleared the acquisition in January 2025 (case M.11481) subject to divestitures, and Keysight completed its purchase of the Synopsys Optical Solutions Group and Ansys PowerArtist on 17 October 2025.[2][4]
    • From 8 December 2025, license files for Ansys Semiconductor products are delivered through the Synopsys SmartKeys key retrieval system instead of the Ansys Licensing Portal, and semiconductor and non-semiconductor Ansys products use separate license files.[5]
    • Flexible Spending Account orders for Ansys Semiconductor products move to the Synopsys Customer Self Service website, while non-semiconductor Ansys products keep their existing licensing channels and procedures.[5]
