- SAM licensing model: a managed node is any entity SAM extracts data from directly; with other modules only nodes monitored by SAM application monitors or API pollers count. A VM monitored directly counts as one managed node, but VMs on a hypervisor do not count when metrics come from the parent hypervisor, which is then the managed node. External services such as Azure VMs or Office 365 monitored via API count (SAM Licensing FAQs).
